It could have been very different if their keeper didn’t play a blinder in the first few minutes. So frustrating though with the goals we conceded.

I thought Santos matched Miller for pace, surprisingly for me. I don't remember Miller beating him on the outside and getting a cross in, when he threatened to Santos got a foot in the way and knocked it out for a corner. I expect Marti kept him on there because Dunne would have been more exposed by Miller's pace and cleverness. Haven't seen much of Ashby yet but didn't see the pace Santos showed Saturday. Miller did enough damage when he cut inside but this was as you say partly due to missing defensive support from Dembele, Andersen, Smyth, Field or Madsen. |  | | |

Nail and head Clive - For me it's now an amber warning light on the dashboard.
We look a mess in midfield and have done all season. Powderpuff are the exact words we described the team on the tube home.
Hull weren't anything special but they were strong, fit and organised which are the basics we are falling short on.
Starting to worry now about JCS and his injuries especially after signing his new contract. I'm praying we haven't fallen for the old Matthew Rose three card trick again. | | | |

Agree about Santos, Clive. Thought he did some good things and worked hard on Millar, but for every good thing he did two bad things and badly needed subbing. I fully expected the Fox switch and was surprised it never came.
We need a win, any win, to just recharge us or it starts looking like Hughes’s second season, where we played really well in some early games, got nothing from them, and hot steadily worse as confidence drained. |  |

Yeh and that's the fear isn't it. I've always wondered what might have happened in that Hughes season had Zamora scored when he should have done at the end of the Chelsea game and that great performance at Spurs had got us a result. Probably nothing because Hughes isn't very good and the dressing room was all over the show but still, confidence and momentum are powerful things in both directions.
Couldn't really ask for two kinder fixtures than Derby and Portsmouth at the moment though, with two weeks of prep in between, so it's a big moment. |  | | |

Yeah annoying to have 'big moments' so early in the season. It's a shame, because post Luton things looked so positive. I guess at least shows how quickly things can turn around though (Hull also an example of that).
Such a weird game. I thought 1-0 was really unfortunate, 2-0 not in any way a fair reflection, and then by the end of the game 3-1 was the least Hull deserved. All in one game. We were both battered and there were also signs of hope - particularly Saito.
Why wasn't their full back booked for that handball for the pen by the way? It's Millwall 1995 levels of inexplicable on the replay. | |

Feels too generous. Yes, we should have scored first and our xG is higher than theirs...but one of our major problems is that we aren't clinical up top and have a soft underbelly. I found Tuesday night very worrying simply because of how easy it was for Hull to cause us problems.
I just don't see how we can continue playing this way when it leaves us so vulnerable. Our next two matches are against promoted teams, which will tell us a lot about our level this season. | | | |

Saito had his moments - the big save in first half and hitting the post. But he got knocked off the ball far too easily on too many occasions.
Santos was awful but he needed some protection in front of him. Dembele doesn't do defending and Smyth wasn't a lot better.
Too many others didn't have the physicality to deal with a Hull side that really aren't anything special. |  |

In a way I am more worried that we played well for reasonably long spells and still contrived to be soundly beaten than I would be if we had played badly. I didn’t see any lack of effort, so I am inclined to blame Marti, for persisting with a set-up that looked vulnerable, more than the players. I hope he will learn some lessons from it. As others have said, baffling why we didn’t have at least one player on the half way line when we defended corners. And on a more trivial note - but a bit typical of how we shoot ourselves in the foot - why is Jude the Cat wandering around confusing our players during the game? | | | |

I have been saying for some time that if you are lousy at home then it will be a relegation scrap. Our away form is what really saved us from going down but if that wanes this season and our home form remains the same we will drop. We are virtually two months into the season and have two points to show for it at Loftus Road. We have played Plymouth, Millwall and Hull, in theory easier opposition as none of them are expected to trouble the play off position's.The clubs with parachute money have all yet to visit.
We now face promoted Derby and Portsmouth and we know our track reason in the past two seasons.12 games and only one win if I recall correctly against sides who came up from league 1. Maybe I am in a minority of one but I don't see how anyone can be confident of us winning either game. Our default position is to disappoint and we are again delivering in that vain. All hope that Leeds might have been a turning point has gone down the plughole.
Looks like we may need a good second half of the season again like the last. |  | | |
