What Is Match Fitness? 19:38 - Sep 30 with 1474 views | union_jack | We are hearing a lot that players who we’ve brought in are not yet match fit? So what does that mean exactly? Is it simply that after running for a short period of time they are blowing out of their backsides? Is it a mental attitude fitness where being in a new club, getting to know new people they haven’t settled in yet? Or is it to do with them not yet having got to grips with the tactics the team play (don’t laugh!). Or are they carrying knocks that they haven’t quite recovered from? I really can’t believe that these players who are young, athletic with all the tools needed to get fit quickly such as a super class gym and facilities, personal training regimes, physiotherapists, dieticians and chefs can’t get match fit quicker. By God I’m 63 and given all that they have at their disposal I could be fitter quicker!!

What Is Match Fitness? on 20:04 - Sep 30 with 1428 views | Dr_Winston | There's a difference between fitness and sharpness. Eom looked like a fish out of water to begin with. Now he's getting games under his belt he's looking more up to speed. The only way that ZV and Bianchini (and I don't really buy into the idea that they're way off the pace) will do the same is by getting games. It's faintly bonkers that Abdulai is seemingly the first alternative sub for a wide player.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

That’s why so much effort and money is put into the medical depts.

During my league days pre season training was a beasting for about 4 weeks before 'friendlies' 🙄 no matter how fit I was after pre season I was blowing out my arse after 10. What i am saying is no matter how fit you are it only preps you so far when it comes to games, you get match fit by actually playing matches, the more you play, the more match fit you get.

The 4 principles of fitness - Specificity overload , progression , reversibility. Overload - when you put the body through demands over and above what is normally required . progression - as fitness improves you increase the intensity. Reversibility - If you fail to maintain the required fitness level the body will naturally revert back to type or a state of homeostasis. SPECIFICITY - This is the one we are concerned with most because football is a sport like a lot of sports that uses specific groups of muscles and puts specific demands on those muscles .Likewise the cardio respiratory and skeletal systems. Football fitness is specific to football for instance and not swimming and vice versa.
What Is Match Fitness? on 01:14 - Oct 1 with 1134 views | Robbie | Many years ago the Bleep test was the guide for fitness , and it was so simple to copy . Repetition of sprints at 20 sec interval between 2 given points until anyone fails and out . Tried it in the Loading area once with a couple of traffic cones as the markers , so easy . Colleague had the timer on for your duration , miss it over and out . Think the sprint ant turn was 20 metres back and fore , it was tough , I thought I was fit but failed dismally after a few shuttle runs . Read up about that drill , it seems the best athletes on that were Seb Coe and Beckham . [Post edited 1 Oct 1:19]

What Is Match Fitness? on 06:25 - Oct 1 with 1088 views | jack247 | Some interesting technical answers here which I’ve learned from. Dr W and FB are bang on. The only way to get match fit is by playing matches. Doesn’t matter how much weights and cardio you do, it gets you a base level of fitness, but you’ll still be off the pace in a game until you’ve played a few. Williams has the conundrum of using players that are going to be off the pace and potentially losing us points or not playing them and then not getting up to speed. Realistically, he has to bite the bullet and play both Vipotnik and Bianchini. Build their minutes up over a few games. Completely agree there’s no benefit in bringing Abdulai on as a winger in injury time. He’s been dumped on, but he needs to deal with it.

One of the consequences of going out of the carabao cup so early. These competitions are very useful to hone fitness and application .

Yes I've done that one . The bleep or progressive multistage fitness test. 18 m I think the distance is. Shuttle runs that get progressively herder as the time to complete them shortens . Uses 2 principles of training I outlined earlier - Overload and progression. Not specific to football but an excellent barometer of cardio vascular endurance . Has been used by top teams such as the All Blacks . As the test progresses aerobic fitness diminishes and anaerobic fitness begins to take over -as you can imagine it gets very hard to keep pace. Level 20 / 21 ?? I think is the ultimate shuttle. I think (it was a while ago now ) I got to the end of level 11 . I am not surprised Seb Coe did well he's slightly built which helps when you turn at the end of each shuttle . Also when he was in his prime he was timed at 6 x 200 m sprints. On a track he sprinted 200 m walked around the track to the start for the next 200 m etc etc. So his only recovery was walking 200 m to the start of the next one. Each 200 m was clocked at an identical time more or less which shows the man's cardio fitness was off the scale. I also read that his resting pulse rate was phenomenally low - probably due to insanely hard training regimes over time.

Absolutely. Can’t remember if Vipotnik played the whole game against Wycombe, but he was certainly on for most of it. He had a terrible game, but it was exactly what he needed. Had we won that, a run out for him and Bianchini against better opponents would have really helped them.

Yes Vipotnik and Bianchini played the full game. It's a bit ironic that two of the players who could have done with a run in the cup were partly responsible for us going out.

Ironic but also unsurprising. They weren’t fit. No surprise at all they had poor games. Vipotnik was dreadful, but without that, he maybe wouldn’t have had 70 minutes and a good first half in him Sunday

They should have been fit enough to contest against Wycombe otherwise why were they on the pitch.

Without a pre season, which neither of those two appear to have had with their previous clubs, that’s a close as we’re going to get to a friendly. Yes, we expected to win, but they were building up their fitness.

What was the excuse our other players on the pitch, we were steam roller by Wycombe they out fought and out played us, there was a number of first team players who played badly.
