National League Cup Groups on 17:15 - Sep 19 with 8650 views | 442Dale | So everyone plays four teams and the top two go through? Much like the stupid nature of the Champions League, having a competition where you have spend ages working out fixtures and permutations is another nail in the football coffin. Why couldn’t they have had eight groups of four then a last sixteen round?

National League Cup Groups on 17:31 - Sep 19 with 8593 views | NorthernDale | I would put out many of the youth team and squad not getting game time, rather then the first team for this pointless competition.

National League Cup Groups on 18:29 - Sep 19 with 8403 views | richfoad32 | I know they're somewhat isolated geographically but it seems Forest Green have been stiffed with a bit of travelling. Or do teams have to travel to their place? I honestly can't be arsed to read the competition rules. Also, where are York City and Solihull, have the lucky gits managed to swerve it?

Possibly. As I say, I haven't delved to deeply into the competition's minutiae. Maybe as a reward for beating Dale, they didn't have to take part in this abomination.
National League Cup Groups on 18:59 - Sep 19 with 8269 views | 442Dale | As the home club keep all the receipts, they can make their own decisions on admission prices and Dale will have to put some real imagination into this if they want people to turn up. Season ticket holders for a fiver at most, general admission £6 (if that’s allowed to charge more). In fact, I think even that’s too much.

According to the Oldham fans site, a number of teams opted out of the competition including York, Southend, Solihull and Hartlepool according to their site. Oldhams fans think it is a distraction to their promotion hopes.

The NL teams are playing the PL2 teams at home, so each NL team has four games, all at home, and each PL2 team has four games, all away. We aren’t playing the other NL teams. I think! [Post edited 19 Sep 19:09]

He did. He said he wasn't sure about the merits of this competition, which was "offered" to the National League as an alternative to lucrative cup replays. It may well work for some of the more recently promoted teams the National League as a bit of a novelty. But we all saw the mess of the Papa Johns thing when we were a league team. It won't be well attended. And Hartlepool have opted out despite the opportunity to host Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough - says it all really
National League Cup Groups on 11:58 - Sep 20 with 7145 views | DaleFan7 | A competition that very few people want to see. Our attendances were low when it was the EFL trophy so they will be even less for this. Even if the home team do keep all of the gate receipts. Are we going to make any profit if we get 500 people paying between £5 and £10?

If there's a financial arrangement been made which at least covers any deficit in hosting these games, that'll go a long way towards positive participation There's no reference to any financial rewards for progression. That would've been useful, in what is otherwise a statement with welcome clarity

National League Cup Groups on 14:53 - Sep 20 with 6717 views | 49thseason | Seems there is £1m to be distributed between the participating National League Clubs.....no suggestion that there is more money for the winners so its money for participation £1,000,000 / 16..... no money to Prem clubs. So £62,500 per NL club to cover overheads... the asumption must be that the Prem clubs will play against each other in the later rounds?

At any of the forums/AGMs/EGMs has anyone said how much it costs to put an average match on

Yes, it’s good that the club have quickly explained the situation. Not sure I’m a fan of the “proper football pyramid of three up, three down, between the EFL and National League” line. Were we arguing for a “proper football pyramid” 18 months ago? Will we continue to do so if we go up this season? If so, great.

Agreed There has to be some distinction imo between promotion/relegation within the EFL and entry to/exit from the EFL otherwise might as well just call the NL League Three and forget about other entry requirements such as ground capacity Needs to be thought through by all clubs, not just Dale, but there's not much wrong with existing arrangements [Post edited 20 Sep 19:15]

National League Cup Groups on 20:04 - Sep 20 with 5992 views | pioneer | Lets hope we dont hear any moaning about fixture congestion, player burn out and the like later on in the season. And the possibility of a player getting a long term or season ending injury in one of these games doesnt bear thinking of. This competition is madness.
