So i am having to spend a bit of time over at my Mum's house at the moment. I need to use my macbook for work when i'm staying there. She has no broadband and my Vodafone phone signal in the area is too weak to hotspot effectively.
Someone mentioned a dongle - does that come prepaid - how does it work? Looking on the interweb it seems i can buy a dongle easily enough but how do i load it up with data?
A dongle is basically a slightly more efficient phone hotspot. It uses a SIM card from a phone provider. You may be better off switching supplier for your mobile to one with a better signal at your mothers house.

Buy an eSIM from another network provider and run it off that data package

e-sims are not physical if you have an iPhone X or later or recent android its a QR code which will then give you access to that network. You buy online and then activate.
Obviously you need to know which networks have good coverage at your mum's house.
