New Performance Director on 18:46 - Jul 3 with 2379 views | dmm | I'm usually pretty cynical about this kind of appointment as I've seen too much of this in other organisations fall flat. However, if the blurb we've read really is the case, then I can see there are potentially great benefits to his role. I did like his comment about his wanting to take his time to understand the culture of the club. That indicates he's learned a thing or two from past experience.

New Performance Director on 16:47 - Jul 3 by davman | Small squad is terrifying especially as it will include JCS, Gubbins, Drewe, SDM, Kelman... *Shiver* Small squad with good, non-injury, versatile players is one thing, but what we are going to end up with will be none of those things... Still, it is the right thing to try as availability was PSS poor last season for whatever reason... |
Yeah I shiver too. Injuries happen as does shyt. Realistically with all the injuries our players have been getting and not just last season, we need a larger squad. Even if this new position does work it will surely be long term, rather than immediately next season. Because of the financial situation I was expecting a larger squad but with cheaper back-up players, free signings, players from Lower Leagues, our own youngsters.

So apparently Lewis Wing signing add Paul Smyth, an extended Dykes, fast back up at left back, new Director of Performance and Heston. I have said before all these feel good. Dickie, JoJo, Amos ( rated him, shame his body didn’t hold up), Travelman et al leaving the building all feels right too. Need another centre half and then possibly done. Ozzie not the worst option at Right Back. All those who loved Warburton should know how much he rated Charlie Kelman, I suspect we will find out if he was right. The big questions are around who we retain from Illy, Willy, Sam and Dieng. Retain the majority and i think the squad now looks competitive. Ever the optimist always the faith

Warburton said Kelman was the best finisher in training. That, of course, has to translate to being the best finisher in actual games which Kelman has yet to achieve. Last season's 7 goals in 47 games for Orient in League 2 is not encouraging. [Post edited 3 Jul 2023 20:24]

I'm pretty sure it was Ferdinand who said that, not Warburton.

26 starts, 43 games but in reality subbed and only got the equivalent of 26x90mins. Not that bad for a 21 year old, we probably wouldn't have signed him off the back of those stats but seeing as he's here we may as well give him a go. From what we've been told he's quick, energetic and can finish, so definitely has some attributes that can be useful.

I'm guessing that they were unable to knock their heads together and that this guy has been brought in to kick ass.

I hope you're right. I'd trust his judgement on a player over Ferdinand's every time.

I am right. He’s on record. But Warburton might not be right. We live in hope. Personally, I haven’t given up on Kelman. I think there is something in there. I hope he’s more Tony Thorpe than Conor Washington though.

I really don't understand the hate for Chris Ramsey, not just from you but from many on this board. He is a highly respected coach in the game and, as far as I'm concerned, an asset to our club.

That's exactly what I thought. I see we have a nutrition department now. Any chance we could get a corner taking department?

Gareth and Dobbo are going to have to strap the boots on, wear three shirts each with different numbers, under their tracksuits, and have a range of wigs available. Cardboard cut outs of each to be moved around within the technical area by the medical staff when the fourth official isn't looking. They can have roll-on, roll-off subs to get a breather.

Unfortunately the nutrition department is run by our caterers.

I happened to be looking at Eze's Wikipedia page and it credits CR with spotting his unrealised potential. If that is true then he doesn't really need to do much more to justify himself...
