FIFA World Cup thread. 12:02 - Nov 15 with 133368 viewsSnipper

I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.

I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.

I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

Do any of you think England have a chance?

Even allowing for context, that was an impressive and enjoyable half.

Terrible half. No Foden, no Grealish, loads of tippy tappy negative stuff at the back, no ambition. Clueless from Southgate. We'll get battered as soon as we meet a decent team.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Bellingham is doing really well, what a prospect he is, Saka lookingdangerous. Main thing is they look fit, this winter World Cup may work in our benefit, early days yet.

Maguire looking tremendous. Bet he wishes he was following Ronaldo out the Old Trafford door.

Another player who seems to play better for England than his club

Thought that was about as good a half as England could've hoped for the combinations between the wide forwards and full backs and the central pairings have gone as well as possible. Bellingham looks like the Gerrard that Gerrard should've been for England

Good goal from Iran, a lesson not to get careless in defence.

No rose-colored specs for me, play like this, especially playing out the back, against a decent team and we will struggle.

You can’t give the ball away so cheaply when you play the possession with purpose obsessed big boys. Shouldn’t be seeing hospital balls played at this level.

There was a big thing about a that Brentford player not getting in the squad. Loads of shouting about making his point against Man City. He missed some real sitters in that game as well. You have to take your chances in top level games, look at Rush and Kane. Top players are top players because they don’t make mistakes and take the one chance given to them. Defenses defend better as well.

Has anyone else noticed Kane has taken the ball off of a fellow team mates toes a few times. Like in kids football. Best player takes the ball from you. A bit weird.

Seems the England hair stylist has been busy

That was a quality bit of play from Rashford, delighted for him.

If this rabble are ranked 20th in the world then Rangers should be getting a world ranking as we must be at least 19th!

Very much agree with you. Playing now they should not be knackered like at the end of the season. I would hope with fresher players that the quality of games overall will be better now than in June.

If my manager started making 'sing up' gestures at me 5-1 down with five minutes to go he would politely be told to fck all the way off.

Where did the 10 minutes added time come from in the second half? Looks like time added on every time ball out of play. Can they do this in the EFL?

F'ing ridiculous penalty when you consider the Maguire incident

No problem with the penalty but my frustration is that if that’s a pen then so was Maguire’s.
Easy pen to give as well when it has zero impact on the result.
