Officials 12:37 - Apr 19 with 1972 viewsbob566

last night watching forest v wba and David Webb had no idea who a throw was for. Lino had flag up saying wba ball. 4th official then has a word in webbs earpiece and webb overturns lino incorrectly resulting in a forest goal from a resulting corner.

It was an awful bit of officiating from the ref and the 4th official. My question is how is a 4th official allowed to overule a linesman. Warnock was bulling on sky afterwards saying that the lino was closer to play and whats it got to do with the 4th official.

the wba full back had gone to take the throw leaving the area behind him vacated. Then 4th official chips in and forest player runs into vacated space crosses and wins a corner. Then the goal.

Surely the lino can only be overuled by the ref ultimately and not the 4th offical?

It was surreal.

A terrible referee refereeing the game terribly. Thought the first half was a total farce at times.

You're really seeing how low the standards are in this league now. It's the business end of the season and teams in amongst it are playing each other in big games, so you're able to see from the appointments they're making who they think has done well and is the best of their best atm. And, well, when that's David Webb you've got enormous fcking problems.

Fourth officials should only get involved if none of the other officials have seen an incident and if it's clear and obvious that a decision has to be made, eg. Violent conduct, late reckless tackle, penalty incident etc.

If the lino makes a decision, the fourth official shouldn't get involved.

I wonder if refs defer to fourth officials as they're fellow refs.

Have to agree with you Nix - as described it sounds a strange one.

The ARs ARE referees though, only have to give up refereeing (if they choose the AR route) when they have done a year or two at Level 3 (We all start at Level 7).
