Would guess so, but for once we don’t really have anyone in demand other than Bonesy and maybe rathbone. Hopefully we can get Hill to take Done again, Bola will be gone, can’t see either of our sick note defenders going though. Incoming wise would expect a left back on loan and maybe a winger but can’t see much else sadly, nothing permanent unless on a free.

1st January ... on 16:51 - Jan 1 with 8197 views | EllDale | O’Connell could be the hottest property and I fear that an undisclosed fee could see him prised away, especially as his contract expires in the summer. He seems to have a strong bond with BBM though should other clubs try to turn his head. Would other League One clubs with some spare cash be interested in Morley? It didn’t take much for Andy Cannon to leave the other year. Much as I respect him I agree that it would be good business to offload Done unless he’s seen more of a left back rather than a striker. It would be decent to see a new leftback arrive though but I trust BBM implicitly based on his recruitment over the last couple of years.

Interesting post. I question if Bonsey has caught the eye as much this season as last. I hope not for he is still our best defender by some way, although McLaughlin is very tidy when fit. Contract talks with Bonsey please board. I would like a permanent left back with league one experience, but most of all a a midfielder with the ability to unlock stubborn defences. Think the board have to let BBM increase the squad size and quality. I cannot see anyone moving for Morley tbh. He hasn’t been playing in a role that best suits him, but it is the fact he goes missing in games that I think will prevent clubs from bidding. This is a very important window for us.

I think Bonsey 's form has taken a bit of a dip in recent weeks (when we've played) and I may be completely wrong, but I sense that he's frustrated at the tactics we employ at home. I also heard a whisper that he isn't keen on another contract here, so may be off in January or summer, which would be bad news for us. Bola likely to go back, as we've hardly improved him...infact; I'd say his confidence has been ruined from the attack minded player who first arrived. Would dearly love us to move Done and McNulty on (fat chance of either big earners going anywhere) and it's really about time McShane and sicknote McLaughlin started to play for their wages. BBM gambled on signing both, and it's backfired, so unlike others, I'd say his record in the transfer market isn't as good as it could be. As for Morley, I can see him turning into another Camps...play him 20 yards further forward and get a better player. Wonder how much Camps would have been worth had both Hill and BBM used him correctly? I reckon he's currently worth £2m upwards at Fleetwood. Doubt we will find out at Dale though. I had thought that Rathbone might be moving on this window, but a combination of his mixed form, plus injuries makes that seem unlikely. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
1st January ... on 20:24 - Jan 1 with 7889 views | EllDale | The reality is that clever recruitment is going to be necessary in the next seven months or so. Whatever happens in this window, by the end of July we could potentially need three new centre backs to replace O’Connell, McShane and McNulty, a new right back to replace McLaughlin and a leftback which is a position we haven’t had a permanent specialist available in for five years, rather using a succession of loan players and blokes shifted from other positions. In addition Ryan could be moving on as a look at his career sees him tend to go elsewhere as each contract expires. Oh, and a new keeper would be desirable as well. Mr Altman could be in demand!
1st January ... on 21:07 - Jan 1 with 7843 views | boromat | Feel like I'm on the same page as most. Bola will probably go back with a new left back coming in on loan. Yeboah obviously went back injured so we could see him replaced with another loanee. A right back could also be required with the problems with McLaughlin. We've also seen that we've been looking at more attacking options so maybe someone could come in to bolster the attack. Problem with this window is we're most likely going to see loan signings rather than permanent signings unless there are some non league players that we're interested in. Outgoings are only likely to be younger players out on loan and maybe Rathbone if an offer comes in. I think I would be tempted to sell as well. He's been hit and miss, the money would be useful and Morley might then play further forward more often.

1st January ... on 22:23 - Jan 1 with 7745 views | Dalenet | I think we will need to put up with what we have got unless somebody will loan us players and pay wages. We tightened our belt but expected crowds back before Christmas and hoped for more than £375k from the Premier League. Just don't think the board has a lot of room to play - although I get the argument that we can't afford to go down. Time will tell but I am not expecting much

The Board have no "room to play" I suspect, unless we can off load, and as stated, none of our surplus lot are marketable. We are largely locked into to paying players for no return. The squad could do with a shake up but we can't afford it. Would Amankwah be worth a re-approach. It's like last year when we tried to move Josh Lillis on and ended up paying him for a whole season when he never played.....his only "job" for the Club was modelling the new GK kit on the Family Day Pre-Season jobby. 1st January ... on 11:28 - Jan 2 with 7315 views | AtThePeake | I can't see EOC staying beyond the summer unfortunately. It's not a criticism of BBM or the board or anything, I just think he is playing at a level that's worth more than what we can afford at the moment and there will be a few clubs willing to pay him that worth come the summer (even though I do agree that he hasn't been quite as stand-out this term).

If we have any cash to spare I would hope we offer it to him on a new contract. The salary caps in the division mean that other clubs won't be splashing silly money either. If a championship club comes calling he will want to take the opportunity and we'd wish him the best

EOC is attracting interest from clubs who can pay him more than we can. As much as I think he loves being at Dale, he’d be daft in the current climate not to take a better offer.

The inference from your comment is that Clubs are already showing interest in Bonsey and might pay up now rather than wait till June? Any ideas of which Clubs ?

The virus is worldwide, not just confined to Spotland. Good effort though.

I think Bola gets a bit too much stick for a game and a half of terrible play when the tactics we were employing were super defensive. I think there is a player there although I won't complain if we get someone better. I would rather keep him if no-one else comes in that position Agree with others that the way we have played means that we have very few saleable assets. Rathbone is still a good player for us but for some reason he's passing has been way off at times this year as with a few others including EOC Normally I would hope we are building for the future, but this season I would hope to stay in the league by any means possible even if it was over reliance on loans / older players. With the salary cap coming in next year, all of a sudden we can have a squad & budget not a million miles away from those above us . We have the advantage of being used to manage at those financial levels so after doing so well for 6 years ( retaining league status rather than entertainment at times) it would be a shame to drop out now

Agree on Bola there is a decent defender there but if available we need someone who's more offensive. I think Bola would do well to have some time at a LG2 club that's playing well nearer the top. On the salary cap I think unfortunately we probably won't see the impact of it for 2/3 years when existing contracts that just class as the 'average wage' have all expired. My concern is not having enough points at the end of the season to stay up but in the first instance maintaining a points per game that would see us stay up if the season finished early. If possible we do need a couple of incomings in Jan or for some of the younger squad members to show that they're ready to contribute.

1st January ... on 21:37 - Jan 2 with 6724 views | ChaffRAFC | Bola was brought in as first choice left back and we've ended up still having to play Keohane and Roberts there ahead of him because he's not been up to this level. Fully expect him to go back. Bit like we did with Pyke.

Would it be worth considering approaching them, to get him on loan till the end of the season? I know there are rumours about Matheson being sent out on loan but for the lads development would a Championship or top 6 L1 club be better for the lad?

We have a far better chance of getting Luke on loan than raff James. I think wolves would be quite happy for him to be back here playing every week, I would guess only reason he has not been here all season is covid and them wanting to integrate him into their set up. Time will tell!
