It’s a well connected town and a desirable place to live. Close distance to the M6, m56 and m60 and rail links to Manchester, Midlands, and London mean a lot of wealthy commuters. I know quite a few people who live there. The area around Moss Rose isn’t the nicest part of town tbf but I can see it being built on if it’s not protected for any Phoenix club to use.

The DW certainly won’t be included as that’s part-owned by the Warriors, who were looking to buy it outright.

Begbies Traynor is asking about £3.3m for Wigan, priced as a package to include stadium, team and a training ground. In normal times that would seem an attractive price for a side that stayed in the Premier League for eight seasons a decade ago and won the FA Cup as recently as 2013, but these are far from normal times and Stanley and his colleagues have not been trampled in the rush. “That is the lowest possible price to allow sufficient funds to pay the remaining creditors,” Stanley said. “If new buyers are unable to do that there will be a further 15-point deduction under EFL rules. Most buyers would obviously want to avoid that, but if anyone out there is willing to take a 15-point penalty we could probably do a deal for just north of £2m. That is definitely cheap when you consider the club still has a few players who might be worth that much.” From the guardian yesterday

Aye that’ll be Athletic’s share of the ground. Think Wigan are attractively priced there, they’ve a solid infrastructure in place with decent potential.

Some would question that. There isn't exactly a stampede.

Looks like Macclesfield will be another that will have to start again. on 11:38 - Sep 16 by Ancoats_Blue | Feel sorry for their fans and the local businesses that’ll be hit by this. Always liked Macc. Got talking to a group of their fans at a Buxton game a few weeks ago. I think they’ll be spending a few more afternoons down there!... |
Perhaps Bale can use his first weeks wage to buy Macc.and a few players as well.?

Who'd ever have thought that Dale would be worth more than Wigan Athletic. But given our debt position and 100% ground ownership I suspect we are. But as you say......no queues for North West clubs right now | | | | Login to get fewer ads

£750k for a lease for 30 years doesn't seem that cheap to me. If it was freehold land it would be worth many times that. Spotland would be freehold land wouldn't it given the new ownership structure? I am not aware of any underlease - but there may be planning covenants Anyway a sad time for the Macc fans and looks like they will need to find £750k for the right to play at Moss Rose if they form a Phoenix club
