Watneys Is Back 15:39 - Sep 2 with 3156 views | SaintNick | A much maligned beer brand with its Party 7 tin being very popular at house parties as well as Bradford V Saints in 1976 , it seems Watneys is back as a brand https://watneys-beer.com/

Watneys Is Back on 17:44 - Sep 2 with 3012 views | Chesham_Saint | The word 'tin' for a Party 7 can doesn't do it justice. I remember one poor Forest fan being seriously laid about with one under the by pass at Wembley Central before the 1979 final. It was all a bit 'wild west' on the approach to the ground, so much so that my skate mate (who'd somehow blagged a ticket for the game) promptly bought a Saints scarf to wear as he felt safer...

Yep party 4 or party 7 you used to have to open them with a can opener

You needed to make two holes to make it work.

Watneys Is Back on 08:24 - Sep 4 with 2502 views | RonManager | All I remember is it was a pint of Red Barrel and 10 Players no.6 on a Friday night when just paid and half a pint of Starlight and 10 no.10 by the following Thursday.

Watneys Is Back on 08:56 - Sep 4 with 2477 views | RonManager | If you drank in the Willow in Winchester back in the 70s, you ordered a pint of 'Itchen' as the river ran beneath the pub.

The first 'real ale' I remember in Winchester was Gale's HSB which was sold in the Theatre Bar on Jewry Street, circa 1976-7 ish. [Post edited 4 Sep 2020 9:14]

Never been a bitter drinker, although I do remember the odd pint of Starlight as an underage drinker back in 1977, but real ale never agreed with me

Yep, and you had to be pretty damn quick to get the 2nd hole made!! It seemed every party I went to where a Party 7 was involved in, nobody had a can opener, but bizarrely a hammer and screw driver/hole punch always seemed to be at hand. Once the top of the can was punctured, the contents would spurt out of the small hole like a geyser until the 2nd hole was made. Most kitchen ceilings in the 70's bore the tell tale splash of shame !! Probably a blessing as it was a truly naff pint.
