Superfan 11:21 - Jun 24 with 18409 views | R17ALE | It is with a heavy heart that I tell you Cloughie died this morning in Oldham hospital from a bowel condition. He'd already beaten off Corona virus! This fella has done more for the club than anyone on here has done, or will do. He started out with scratch cards and Goldbond in 1991 and over the next 15 or so years raised around £400,000 for the club. Plus he raised funds for the Trust selling thousands of calendars door to door in his beloved Littleborough. The £50,000 he earned in commission he has left to the club in his will (and some!) so he raised all that money for free, as a volunteer. RIP Rochdale's greatest ever fan. I'll miss you Cloughie.

Superfan on 11:30 - Jun 24 with 8712 views | VivaDonaldo | With that kind of legacy he deserves a lasting memorial at the club somewhere. Would be great if someone who knew him well could advise how. RIP Cloughie.

Superfan on 11:54 - Jun 24 with 8581 views | Boss_Hog | The word 'Legend' is banded around easily these days, but never has it been more appropriate when describing David Clough. His hard work and countless hours of dedication towards Rochdale AFC and fundraising schemes they ran, make him far and away our biggest ever fan. He has, and always will have, legendary status on the corridors of Spotland. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Superfan on 13:09 - Jun 24 with 8308 views | TVOS1907 | What sad news and what a fantastic character. I went to visit him at Monacliffe around six months ago and he was in fine form, even throwing in the standard "f**kin" every now and then, much to the chagrin of Ethel in a neighbouring chair! I doubt we'll see his like again, although I have never missed the several beads of snot dropping onto my doorstep on a winter's night when he called for my Godbond £1. Great bloke, funny bloke and a true gent. RIP Cloughie

Superfan on 13:14 - Jun 24 with 8287 views | Suggers | Very sad news. Me and the missus spent some time with him in Mona Cliffe as Cloughie and my father in law were entertaining each other with tales of everything Dale past. All the bloke wanted was a pie and I very much hope he got what he wanted! RIP Cloughie and enjoy all the pies you want from here on in.
Superfan on 13:31 - Jun 24 with 8240 views | ChaffRAFC | Awful news. What Cloughie has done for the football club over the years is the stuff of legend. A sad day for the club. RIP Cloughie

Superfan on 13:35 - Jun 24 with 8226 views | 442Dale | Reading the impact one man can have shows how special he was. Those sort of figures he raised have ensured the club not only kept going but has gone on to progress to where we are today. RIP Cloughie.

Superfan on 13:39 - Jun 24 with 8214 views | Yorkshire_Dale | RIP Sir! I know Cloughie featured some time ago in the SuperFan search and his exploits were well documented and it seems he did even better financially for the Club than was first thought. I hope that if he has left a legacy to the Club it is earmarked for something that he would be happy to put his name too.
Superfan on 13:40 - Jun 24 with 8207 views | 100notout | RIP Cloughie R17 - is it right he had about 6 rounds on the go at the same time and collected most nights of the week? I had two rounds for a while and that was hard work at times - especially in the winter months so can only echo the thoughts of others - a real Superfan.

If you can log on with a different device, you may be able to up vote to neutralise it but I don't think it's possible to cancel a vote?

It was probably the equivalent of 8 large rounds. What's little known is that he arranged a convenient time with each customer to collect meaning 1 in Smithybridge at 2pm, next one at 2.15 in Wardle, then back to Smithybridge, then up to Summit, then back to Wardle. Every single customer had their own personal slot at the same time every week. In all the years he did it, he didn't miss one customer once. Now that is some record!

Superfan on 14:45 - Jun 24 with 8008 views | Fondles | Don't come on here often nowadays, but wanted to pop on to RIP a legend. Surely this story needs passing onto the tabloids to give them something positive to write about or a crowdfund for something special for his funeral. My mum just sent me the message saying he had died, she has never been to a Dale match in her life but she loved Cloughie to pieces, come rain or shine he would be on his bike collecting goldbond, cracking jokes and loving doing his bit. RIP fella.
