London Mayor Sadiq Khan 20:23 - Jun 10 with 31372 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | London mayor Sadiq Khan promised today that he will begin the process of pulling down ‘inappropriate’ statues around London — after Bristolians dumped the statue of slave trader Edward Colston in the river at the weekend. To investigate London’s landmarks, Khan has created a ‘Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm’ which will review statues and street names in the capital to make sure they reflect the diversity of its people. Khan said he expected the commission to find that it’s ‘not appropriate to be memorialising, or to be celebrating’ certain figures, especially those with a racist past and links to the slave trade. In 2018, he proudly unveiled a statue of the suffragist Millicent Fawcett — the first-ever statue in Parliament Square of a woman. At the time, Khan declared that ‘from the very first week of my Mayoralty, I supported Caroline Criado Perez’s campaign to put up a statue of a woman in Parliament Square, and I’m so proud that the day of its unveiling is now upon us.’ But while Fawcett is mostly celebrated today for the campaign for women’s suffrage, less well-known is her ardent support of the British Empire. Fawcett was such a fan of Empire, that in 1901 she was commissioned by the government to lead an investigation into British concentration camps in South Africa during the second Boer war, after high mortality rates and appalling conditions were reported there. When she arrived, Fawcett thought the camps were deeply necessary for the war, and her eventual report said the commission had a ‘generally favourable’ view of them. She also suggested that many of the deaths were caused by the ‘unsanitary habits’ of the Boers. Around 28,000 Boers died in the camps. Fawcett didn’t have much thought for the participation of Black Africans in society after the war either. In 1899, she wrote that after the settlement of the war; ‘I hope we are too deeply pledged to the principle of equal privileges for all white races to abandon it.’ https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/will-sadiq-khan-have-to-knock-down-millicent ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Do you think Sadiq will include his pet project in the list of 'inappropriate' statues he intends to tear down? It begs the question as to whether he is engaging with this exercise simply to boost his personal popularity, considering he proudly unveiled such a statue himself less than two years ago. The man is a colossal hypocrite.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on 12:47 - Jun 12 by Catullus | Edited because I've just seen it, I would expect nothing less from you. Why just you don't call me a racist and be done with it. Maybe what you missed though is the 1% that have taken our rights away for decades are the rich and powerful? It wasn't a reference to BLM or those protesting in Bristol. Like I've said, I hate all racism, wherever it comes from and whoever it's directed at but that's never enough for people like you. Like I also keep saying, people will believe what they want to believe! Edited agin just to say, at the end of all 3 of those statements would be "but I disagree with the violence" [Post edited 12 Jun 2020 13:00]

If I wanted to call you a racist, I'd call you one, I wouldn't need your permission to do it. You seem to have a bit of a hard on for wanting to be called one mind, you've mentioned it in a few of your posts, despite not being called one. Proper weird that.

Half the crap you post from Twitter is utter bollocks, Daz. Like the video of the "old Trump supporter" being hit by a supposed BLM protester which was from 2011. You care more about Diane Abbott's clumsy wording than the fact she receives horrific racist abuse on a daily abuse. You care about the crimes George Floyd committed in 2011, which he went to prison for, than the fact he was killed over a counterfeit $20 bill. Incessant race-baiting hiding behind the veneer of truth-seeking. What a pathetic man you've become.

Ah, no comment on how your repeated demands for balance always seem so one sided? Yes of course you ignore my posts, that is why you choose to respond to them with derogatory comments. Dear me, you are actually so obsessed with the detail of them, that you even berated me about how long it took me too reply to another poster. If that is all you have then I suggest you chill, if you don’t like my posts ignore them, if you want to reply fine I am always interested to hear what people have to say, but just trying to personally put someone down doesn’t reflect well on you as an argument. But don’t worry we women have suffered such prejudice for years, so I am well used to it. Actually as a person I am certainly not arrogant enough to set myself up as a judge of what others may or may not believe is worthy of their time. I did imply to another poster that my arse was fragrant recently but I think he understood that was just a joke rather than self flattery. Other than that I perceive myself no better or worse than any other person. It was you who seemed obsessed with the voting, but thank you for your time, and for keeping mart6 company as s/he must feel lonely at times, however I admire people willing to stand out against the crowd, although downvoting condemnation of Discrimination may be seen as a little controversial just now. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Then again it depends on what he thinks of democracy, maybe he agrees with Thomas Jefferson, “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” |
Thomas Jefferson predicted Brexit it seems. Interesting.

I think some of Diane Abbott’s comments go well beyond clumsy wording. They are out and out racist. And to pretend that is not so, enables racism of all sorts IMHO. Of course that is no excuse for racism she or anyone else receives. However people may judge her for this. For instance Leon said just above... ‘I'm very clear and happy to not be on the side of racists. They don't need to be considered, they don't need a voice and there should be no place for them. There's no need or room for balance when it comes to racists.’

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on 13:24 - Jun 12 by Darran | You can’t say anything on here that’s true anymore for the likes of Humpty,Lisa etc to start calling you a racist or troll. There was a video on here two weeks ago of a female, black, right wing Trump supporter saying that George Floyd once held a gun to a pregnant black womans stomach to keep her quiet whilst his chums ransacked her house. She spoke the truth, the 100% truth and she got some incredible abuse for speaking that truth. They were all kicking off here,Humpty was going radio rental even though he hadn’t even watched the video. One poster across the pond even said she’s called an Aunt Jemima in America, apparently a dreadful racial slur. But like I said she was speaking the truth the 100% truth. A few weeks ago on Twitter I laughed at Diane Abbott saying Lebanon was in Europe. A poster off here replied to me saying “don’t be a racist.” and even when I asked him the following day why he was abusing Priti Patel he said “that’s different.” It’s all a bit sad really with no balance anymore,I’ve said for years on here that I can’t work out this left v right bollox and I’m usually right. It’s disgraceful what’s happening but some people just love to make it worse by stirring it up. |
Bollocks. I didn't abuse that women for anything she said in that video. I don't know what she said as I didn't watch it. I just pointed out what that women is. Someone who tells lies for a living.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on 18:11 - Jun 11 by LeonWasGod | I was only talking about racists. Racists aren't the victim and I'm quite happy for them to be abused too (preferably locked up). I'm very clear and happy to not be on the side of racists. They don't need to be considered, they don't need a voice and there should be no place for them. There's no need or room for balance when it comes to racists. |
The question is how do you define racist? Given the way the term is thrown out on here, I don’t think it unreasonable to assume that your ambiguous statement implied anyone unhappy with what was going on with the statue was racist. And remember despite what Humpty repeatedly said it was the Labour Lord Mayor who stopped the prepared plaque, clearly outlining Colston’s link to the slave trade, from being attached to the statue. Was that good enough I don’t know but it was certainly better than nothing. But once you allow mob rule, we all know where it is going. As far as racists on either side, unless you cull them, we do need to consider them. Unless you would prefer the cull, Planet Swans Definition of racism as decider for who goes? Edit. As far as victim, I was referring to the group, seemingly branded as racists by your comment, for merely having a valid concern about allowing mob rule. [Post edited 12 Jun 2020 15:14]

Is that the same Diane Abbot who said London shouldn't have another white mayor? It is such a shame that the first black female MP sets such a poor example to her constituents and the rest of the country in terms of pushing back against racism.
