Absolutely fcking pathetic, every time this government good few days too late, it took them a week to decide rather than we give you advice to not go to pubs/restaurants, they then say close them.. And now 7 days behind again... so most probably next Friday they will say it's a lockdown for the uk, absolutely pathetic.. Costing thousands of lives..Total kuntz
Yes that is why Singapore made it law that every Company had to supply their employees with masks and hand wash when COVID19 appeared in their country. Because of their polution.
We have the same advice in Singapore, only wear masks if you have symptoms. Certain premises, like hospitals, ask everyone to wear masks if you enter the building but otherwise no need. On the subway at the moment my unscientific surveys report about 90% of people mask free.
There has been no mandatory provision of masks and hand wash to employees by companies.

Spot on. I think I have said it before, but we went to Malta 2 weeks ago, they had restrictions in place and were thermally scanning people at the airport, sanitizers out, staff in masks etc. Return to Cardiff 1 week later and ........... nothing except a couple of leaflets on a table.

Obviously those numbers will rise and only include diagnosed cases, but caution should stop them rising too much. A couple of weeks of lockdown, a bit of sense and hopefully in this area at least the problem can be largely managed.
Question then becomes whether or not it's possible to declare a larger area clear. Can restrictions be lifted in Swansea without prohibiting movement from outside areas into the region?

I suspect the end game will be when the number of new cases is consistently fewer than the supply of intensive care beds to care for them.
I don't think this is something that's going to stop for a while, but it could become something we're able to manage until a vaccine is developed or the fabled "herd immunity" kicks in.
We may get periods of relaxation and the odd additional restrictions if it flares up again for quite some time. As for coming from abroad, a certificate of either past exposure and recovery or even quarantine may be implemented.

Translates to 34 people being treated in-centre at SBUHB premises and bears no relation to any community infection or population statistics whatsoever.

This lock down of the elderly and vulnerable is going to be crucial. It will have a tremendous impact regarding preventing mass infection of the people whom are lesser resilient to it.
The governments initiative will be extremely useful and NHS staff are extremely grateful for its introduction. It will save so many lives and ease pressure on NHS capacity.

Due to the testing regime, the 34 confirmed cases is likely to be the tip of the iceberg. Given our transport links and population density, I can’t see any relaxation of the requirement or zoning taking place.
I have just spoken to a woman who I work with who lived in what is now one of the worst affected areas of Italy until about 2 years ago. She still has a lot of friends there and spoke to 1 earlier this week. By all accounts it’s grim out there, there are lots of desperately ill people and there is no room at the hospitals, she was told that people are being advised to stay at home because even if they came to the hospital they would only be told to lay on the floor. In the the town and villages which are in close proximity to where she lived the number of deaths is well in to triple figures. She was also told a lot of the people had disregarded the curfew and continued to congregate in bars, town centres etc, but now it’s totally changed. Social distancing and isolation are being observed.
Let’s hope the situation doesn’t end up like that here.
I agree it is not the 34 that are of concern (in fact they are identified so probably of very limited onward infection concern now) but the many others infected with little or no symptoms or in pre symptom phase but still capable of easily infecting others.
Isn’t WHO currently quoting up to 14 days incubation, but it’s speed of serial transmission is rapid.
Infected spray can suspend in the air for a short period and can remain infectious (wherever it falls) for up to several days (passed from surfaces to hands to other surfaces including shopping items, that infected people may have already coughed on or other infected hands may have already touched).
When we are only testing serious cases, these figures could be quite dangerous with such a low proportion reported, it may make people less cautious, and extreme caution is something we definitely need to proceed with.
