Swanseaa Uni Bay Campus 14:35 - Dec 27 with 12836 views | westside | What a horrible looking place when you drive past it. There was a big grass open space square in the middle where you could see the other buildings around like the hall and tower but they have just stuck an awful looking building on it. New campus opportunity ruined by awful design and planning. [Post edited 27 Dec 2019 14:36]

Swanseaa Uni Bay Campus on 17:28 - Jan 2 by howenjack | I am aware of the saying there are lies damned lies and statistics and I have no wish to get into prolonged discussions on the merits or otherwise of EU membership /Funding etc etc. But That map showing the richest/ poorest regions of northern Europe is not much of and advert for our continued EU membership . We have one of the top ten richest areas in Europe (Germany have 3, Brussels is one also -quelle surprise! amazing what riches Stella and chocolate production produce) . Inner London might well be further down the rich list if not for Russian and Middle East investment . We also have 9 of the poorest ten areas in Northern Europe and this after more than 40 years of paying into le club. |
We have the richest area in Northern Europe, not ‘one of the top ten’. And 9 of the poorest. That’s due entirely to decisions made by the UK government to centralise wealth. The absence of funding from the EU will widen the gap unless the UK government changes its entire philosophy. Blaming the EU for national decisions will, at least, have to stop from now on. Btw - Belgium’s wealth doesn’t depend on chocolate and beer, important though those things are. It was one of the wealthiest countries in the world well before the EU.

Swanseaa Uni Bay Campus on 17:54 - Jan 2 by Kilkennyjack | Very unfair, but entirely the fault of UK govts. The EU has been trying to help out the poorest areas - like parts of Wales ! |
We are/were the 3rd largest contributor financially and have been for years.9 out of 10 of the poorest areas are in GB. Your EU can't be doing such a great job can they .Its not as if they haven't had the time. France has got one area in the top 10 poorest Germany none mmmm.

I was being sarcastic re. Chocolates and beer you missed the.point that Brussells is the eu centre of government and also the Belgian area in the top ten.

Swanseaa Uni Bay Campus on 17:17 - Jan 2 by Kilkennyjack | The struggle has only just started. Once the promised unicorns dont get delivered, then Boris will run away from the responsibility. He is a coward, see how he ran away from Andrew Neil. Brexit has ended the UK. A free Scotland and a united Ireland are now nailed on certain. You can thank Boris for that. Cymru has a clear choice - a Celtic nation like Ireland and Scotland, or Wales-Shire as part of Brexidiot England. My view is pretty clear on that one. Even Brexidiot England will rejoin the EU within 10 years. Going to be a complete disaster. |

None of the EU countries east of Germany and Austria are included on the map. No counties west of France or south of Austria. Talk about manipulating statistics. Only 8 of the 28 EU countries included. Sweden included which of course is not in the EU. [Post edited 3 Jan 2020 20:01]

The labour run Welsh Assembly has failed Wales for 20 years despite very large subsidies from the UK government. Where has the money gone?

That’s because it’s a map specifically of Northern Europe. Not the EU. It’s like saying something called ‘a map of Wales’ doesn’t include Felixstowe.

How can the map be called "northern Europe " when it does not include Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland Belarus, Poland, Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary all of which are further north than southern France. It is like saying a map of southern England does not include London. If all these countries were included I doubt any part of the UK would be in the bottom 10 poorest areas. The map is a nonsense and is incorrectly titled to prove whatever the author wishes it to prove.

People are just commenting on why the UK has such disparity. Whether it is poorer in Latvia than in Cornwall is irrelevant. But most of the countries you name are actually officially ‘Eastern Europe’ rather than Northern Europe. Certainly by the UN categorisation.

If you are quoting UN definitions then France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands Austria Luxembourg are in Western Europe not Northern Europe as claimed in the map. Rather proves my point that the map which is titled Northern Europe is nonsense.

Welsh govt has helped the people of Wales. It cares. UK govt has not helped the people of Wales. It does not care. Cos UK made Wales poor, the nice European provided structural funding monies. Thats the facts, you cant rewrite history. The way forward in clearly a free and independent Wales in the EU. Makes no sense to trust the Tory UK govt. [Post edited 3 Jan 2020 22:45]

I think the people of the UK have proved they trust the Conservatives more than the EU. The result of the 2016 proved that. It was confirmed in the 2019 general election when the remain parties were crushed. Democracy in the UK was the winner. [Post edited 4 Jan 2020 19:35]

This isnt true. More people voted for remain parties than for Brexit parties. Due to the first past the post system the Tory party got in as the pro Brexit vote was split. The actual figures show over 52% voted for remain parties. https://metro.co.uk/2019/12/13/percentage-votes-per-party-won-popular-vote-gener [Post edited 4 Jan 2020 21:15]

It's not that simple. There may have been plenty of pro-Brexit Labour voters who still voted Labour, or pro-Remain Conservative voters who still voted Conservative. I'd certainly believe that many pro-Remain Tories still voted for Johnson rather than switching to Corbyn.

Welsh Govt has helped the people of Cardiff. Anyone outside the central CF postcode areas can go f*ck themselves as far as the Senedd are concerned.
