Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

.......................Woodman
Roberts . Wilmot . van der Hoorn . Grimes
.........Dyer . Ayew . Celina . Peterson
...................Borja . Routledge

There's a lot of changes, but it would be a flexible team and formation. Naughton only misses out cause I'd like to see what Roberts has to offer now after his stint on the bench. Same with Grimes replacing Bidwell.

Wilmot and Grimes are capable of moving into the midfield occasionally to help out too. But this would completely overhaul our weak as piss midfield. Ayew can either play as an attacking midfielder, or drop into CM and add some class to the midfield. Neither Byers or Fulton have to be in the side either.

Peterson simply has to start. Dyer gets the start also because Kalulu isn't ready for the first team yet. Ayew and Celina working in tandem could do wonders, as long as they don't get in each other's way. Routs went well as a striker last season and it will give Borja someone to play alongside.

A midfield pairing of Ayew and Celina would be very lightweight in my opinion.
Agree that Borja and Peterson need to be brought into the side though.
Would probably go for:
Woodman
Roberts VDH Wilmot Bidwell
Fulton Grimes
Ayew Celina Peterson
Borja

I prefer the look of your choice. Ayew is not a CM and Celina needs the freedom to link up with the wide players without having to drop too deep. Ayew and Celina as the CM pair might leave a big gap if they forget themselves and push forward at the same time.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

On the lightweight comment - that's fair. Your team is actually exactly what I would've picked if I had to do a 'sensible' team selection. I just figure something has to be done about the midfield. My team essentially removes our current midfield and replaces it with creative players. My theory is that we're going to lose the midfield battle anyway, so when we do have the ball, hopefully Ayew and Celina could use it wisely.

You'd play Grimes?
If Roberts is back Naughton or Carroll in midfield would be an improvement.
As we're away I would definitely start wth Cabango at CB with Horn and Wlmot as a CDM.

Woodman
Roberts Wilmot VDH Naughton
Carroll Grimes Celina
Ayew Baston Surridge

I like the idea of starting Sturridge up top, with ayew and routledge however. Dropping Grimes is lunacy, he's a very good player.

That would be my side as well.

No chance of it happening though.

As inconsistent as he's been this season, I think he should be persisted with. A move to LB for a game or two could be good for him, as could partnering him with Ayew in the midfield, but I think he played well against Cardiff, Wigan, & Wednesday.

Naughton is an interesting one. I forgot that he can play midfield. He could go well for a game or two. I wouldn't even consider playing Carroll though. Too lightweight.

I think the one thing we have been missing this year is pace, can't wait to see if Kalulu can bring some of that to wide areas when he is fit.
As for the centre of the park we are severely lacking, would play Fulton despite how poor his is on the ball just to add a bit of a dog in there. Grimes and Byers both been poor recently.
If i were picking purely on Saturdays performance we may not have an XI to start haha

Definitely. We're not running at the defense. Probably because the players don't have the pace. I agree, Kalulu will hopefully start in a few weeks once he's fully fit.

I'm a bit disappointed that Fulton stalled after his promising pre-season. Didn't he score a hat-trick against Yeovil? He gets the start automatically. No-one can play worse than Byers did on Saturday.

Back on the road. Wouldn't surprise me if we put in a good performance today and then play like a bunch of strangers again on Friday.

There'll have to be a few changes between tonight and Friday, shirley?

Liking that team.

Borja was dropped and rightly so imo, but things looked stale vs Millwall, time for him to recapture his early season form and with Peterson finally starting I think he may get some decent service from both wings.

Interesting. Fulton in to add a bit of dog in midfield (even if it is a chihuahua), Roberts in to get up & down more than Naughton can instead of a specialist right winger, Ayew supporting Borja so more goal threat.

Maybe Dyer & Routs rested, can't see any other reason why McKay would make the matchday squad.
