Got to be dropped after that, petulant, unprofessional, really poor performance from the lad.

Wish I'd chosen a different username...

The *problem* with Camps is that even when he was good, he wasn't that good. He's certainly regressed but he's never been a shining model of consistency - I consider him a decent player but a luxury one at that who will only look like the best player on the pitch when you're a few goals to the good. Fair play to him for overcoming his illness and only he truly knows if he's still being affected by it psychologically but I highly doubt that he would be anywhere near the match squad if there were any obvious lingering physical ailments

Why wasn’t you whinging about his inclusion at scunthorpe or even last week? What was the difference if you feel so strongly?

Onto the topic. Camps has consistently been one of our worst players for well over a year, i’ve never bought the hype and never will. Has always been wasteful in possession and rarely plays the correct pass. Unfortunately form doesn’t seem to be a factor, as he appears almost ever present in our starting XI.

I didn’t post any comment last week sweety boy either way, yes we beat Scunthorpe but wasn’t over impressed with the team selection then either, and following them home and away for years I am entitled to my opinion...

Camps is off form & if I want to watch kids football will stay on after my boy plays on a Saturday morning last week at Close Park in Radcliffe not in a league 1 game..

Callum had a reasonable game considering we were over-run in midfield. Hill should have seen within minutes that the formation wasn't working.

You can't leave two strikers isolated upfront (Andrew, Wilbraham) with two 'false' strikers (Henderson, Gillam) just behind them and expect the midfield to cope against such greater numbers.

The plan worked well against run-of-the-mill Gillingham but it was a folly to adopt the same tactics away at such a strong side as Sunderland. I doubt any player could cope with two or three opponents running at them constantly with unmarked players either side.

But that's not why he looked out of his depth. His first touch was poor, his distribution woeful (even when unchallenged) and his energy level low

We can see when a player is struggling due to tactics - this wasn't such an occasion. Prior to their first goal, our tactics were having some success and we should've been ahead

I doubt it very much James, purely and simply because he plays week in, week out.
The ones that seem to be out of favour are the likes of Inman, Cannon and Perkins.
Curiously enough they are all candidates to play where Camps does and are left kicking their heels on the bench whilst he seems to be a certain starter.
I know that many people were pleased (before 3.30pm anyway) that we retained the same team last Saturday. That hasn't happened very often in the recent past.
But I did wonder at the time if we should have considered packing the midfield.
Easy to say that with hindsight of course.

In interviews Hill also criticises players who have been on the pitch as well, for individual errors and forgetting responsibilities.

I had it in my mind that he was criticising defenders for lapses but you could be right.

Considering goals coming from set pieces we have conceded, I would have thought all players have their resposibilities in such situations. Also the moments leading up to the free kicks being awarded.

150+ first team games,at a comparatively successful time in our history, and still only age 22. Time will tell how many of our present crop of youngsters match, or better, his record.

Too many on here and in the crowd on matchday seem to be waiting for Callum to make mistakes. Some of the criticism verges on abuse. I don't know anything about social media but I expect it is at least as bad on there.

Encouragement is what is needed. He is one of ours and always appears proud to wear the shirt.

Excellent post. The obsession on here with making extreme predictions based on little evidence is unfortunate. We didn't become play-off material after Gills nor relegation fodder after Sunderland. Camps didn't become a lazy, big-headed failure cos of last season's performances - he was part of a team where most of the 'favourites' like Done, Andrew, Rafferty, Henderson struggled; that's why we were nearly relegated. I admit I prefer Camps' flicks and tricks (even tho not all work) to the 'solid pro' for my football entertainment. The potential long-term effects of his illness are good points and yes, he's inconsistent (like any player we can afford) but most often puts in the proverbial 'shift' and has become more effective in a covering m/f role since taking over from Allen. But whatever your view, dismissing a 22 year old as a 'failure' guarantees one thing - it won't make him play any better. Support is what's needed from supporters!

Apart from the odd saddo, we'd all have been willing him on to do well in front of 29000 fans

The subsequent critique on here is simply a reflection of how far short of the mark his performance fell. Nowt wrong with that, and it's up to him to improve not us to improve him by being "better" supporters

No - it's Cannon.
There seems to be a problem since Hill said he'd told Cannon that he could be one of the best wingbacks in the league and Cannon said 'no thanks - I want to play midfield'.
He certainly seems to be being punished for this. Let's hope it's resolved quickly because when Cannon is in the team and playing well it makes Dale stronger.
