Sajid Javid Tells A Porkie!! 13:30 - May 1 with 4630 viewstheloneranger

What a great start for the new Home Secretary!!

Sajid Javid makes a provably-untrue statement to MPs and the nation — less than ten minutes into his first appearance.

"VIDEO: NEW HOME SECRETARY JAVID MISLEADS HOUSE <10 MINS INTO FIRST APPEARANCE"

And looking at the opposition.. you have Diane Abbott and Tom Watson munching on a 3 course meal, with heads like a balloon ready to pop..

Diane is about as intellectually versed as a fish blowing bubbles.

Tom Watson is afraid to say anything in case he comes across as being dense.

I have listened to politicians of the past, the ones who had to deal with real issues, like winning wars, initiating real changes to society.. and even though they were all drunken, smoking, sex fuelled numbskulls.. when it came down to actual commandeer use of oratory English cutting edge, it was almost artistry.. they weren't politicians.. they were artists with craft, and a way of philosophy.. it was almost as if they were born to do it.

Today's politicians.. are falling over their feet and dropping papers on the floor..

The old politicians would be looking in bemusement yelling out "papers? This is an art, not a scribes paradise"

Well the video of Sajid Javid making the statement isn't fake.

He claimed that the Immigration Act 2014 did not remove the protection against deportation available to Windrush migrants...

and in his own words...

"No such protections have been removed. People who arrived pre-1973 - they have the absolute right to be here and that has not changed."

Yet..

The clause giving longstanding Commonwealth residents protection from enforced removal, was taken off the statute book by the 2014 Immigration Act!!

So is he telling porkies, or has he caught the Home Office disease??

"That they wouldn't know the truth if it smacked them in the face"

According to your logic the 2014 Act removed these people's right to remain, but that is incorrect. Presumably Javid was simply making the point that under the provisions of the Immigration Act 1971 people from Commonwealth countries (and their wives and children) who settled in the UK before 1973 can remain in the UK indefinitely. The significance of the 2014 Act is that it required people to provide proof of residence as a condition of access to certain services or to stay indefinitely, and many of the Windrush generation found it difficult to produce documents showing they arrived before 1973 (when the tougher 1971 Act came into effect). So Javid was correct to say that pre-1973 arrivals always had a right to stay, because Section 1 of the 1971 Act is still in effect. The issue is that the Home Office should have been more understanding in helping them establish when their residence in the UK began.

"The onus is on individuals to prove they were resident in the UK before 1 January 1973, the date the 1971 Immigration Act came into force. However, a key clause from 1999 legislation, which had provided longstanding Commonwealth residents with protection from enforced removal, was deleted from the 2014 Immigration Act."

"All longstanding Commonwealth residents were protected from enforced removal by a specific exemption in the 1999 Immigration and Asylum Act — a clause removed in the updated 2014 legislation."

Frances Webber, a former barrister and vice-chair of the Institute of Race Relations, discovered the deletion of the clause. “I find it very frightening that rights can be removed in this way, surreptitiously, with no debate,” she said.

For your argument to work you have to establish that pre-1973 arrivals do not have a right to remain under existing law. They do. It was granted in S1 of the 1971 Act. The change you identify may affect some Commonwealth migrants, but should not affect those who came before January 1st 1973. That is very simple and Javid was correct. Show me who is arguing that the Windrush migrants do not have a right to remain.

Well not to support May or the tories but, how can Labour just take over? WE'd have to have a general election and Labour would have to win.
The way things are currently it's hard to see Labour or Tory doing anything but worse in a GE. They are both in mires pretty much of their own making.
Then there's the Libdems, does anyone thibk they'd be better even if they could win enough seats?
Maybe we should have a GE to find out but all I can see happening is another minority government, another weak government which (whoever it was) would struggle to get anything worthwhile through Parliament.
Part of me hopes for a Corbyn win now, I believe he would be even more ruinous for this country, if that's possible. With all the borrowing he plans I think in a few years we'd be seeing massive inflation, interest rates causing mortgage defaults to skyrocket again but hey, maybe some of the rich would actually be in the same boat as us poor, lazy, welfare scroungers and we could laugh at them.
Truth be told May has little support from anywhere in her ranks but Corbyn has Momentum and they will never accept anything bad about St Jeremy to be true.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

At least the tories are trying to control immigration rather than let in anyone who will vote for them despite the housing shortage and the strain it puts on the NHS and schools.
