I think that is a poor comment. We need to take chances on youngsters. Some work out, like Austin, Freeman, Scown, etc and some do not, like Washington and Yeni. That is how we must act from now on while we are building. Not everyone who looks great in another uniform will look good in ours. This game of selecting youngsters is a crap shoot and even the best scouting will never provide the club with the best players always. Most are actually already vacuumed up by the hounds from the big clubs. I am sure you will agree that we are now heading in the right direction and that we must take the good with the bad and move on when the latter comes about. Good luck to Yeni. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That's assuming the story is true. Like managers taking a punt on a player, journalists will take a punt on a headline.

You and Brian are real party-poopers, aren't you?! Both absolutely right, of course. I thought it was WestLondonSport, not GWL, that purveyor of fantasies plucked from the ether. [Post edited 3 Jan 2018 9:46]

That Goal at Birmingham apart, I cannot think of a major contribution that emitted from the end of his Boots in the near year and a half he was here. He will Probably go on to play like Didier Six back in France.

Youngsters? Ongerbahkoto is 26 next week. I think we bought him off a video recording of his best bits, 90% of which were him sliding in goal efforts in acres of space. Not quite the Championship by my reckoning and should have set alarm bells ringing way before pen to paper.

Great cameo against Cardiff last year where he turned the game with a goal and an assist. Real shame - the other players clearly respected his ability with a dead ball. Had a difficult start with his dad passing away and then never got going. Plenty of other clubs including Wolves were looking at him, so he was worth a go. Real shame it hasn't worked out.

I could never recognise what his best position was. Disappointed for the club and him. I wish him well for the future.

When I said this once whilst sitting in Ellerslie some of our lovely fans turned on me and started abusing me. Spent the whole game doing it as well. The kind of angry men who like to go to games to get aggressive. Anyway enough about my childhood... just like Tactical says he just never showed the guts or drive to really get involved. He was clearly a very talented player technically so it's a shame.

We've got quite a few who do great cameos. I wonder if we should start with 8 players and introduce them at strategic sections of the game. Would they count as substitutes? I don't think so. Gives us a potential 6 cameo performances if you build in the actual subs.
ngbakoto ngabaktogone on 11:01 - Jan 3 with 7507 views | Northernr | Unfortunate for many reasons - the bereavement as soon as he got here which hampered him settling into a new country and a tough league, then the change of manager. He's never really fitted into the system Holloway wants to play. Say it all the time, everytime you change the manager you end up with people who were bought by or for his predecessors for one reason or style and now that reason or style don't exist any more. The more you change the manager, the more of these you accumulate in the squad. We've got half a dozen currently.

JFH didn't have a system for him either. Really does seem like we chased him all summer and then didn't have a plan after that - or have any desire to emphasise a plan on the managers that had him. Yeni has/had flashes of real talent but clearly is also a bit of a ponce who hasn't helped himself either. I would also say that we have sidelined him more than another more cohesive club might have done. You need discipline, patience and organizational clarity to cultivate players - especially from abroad. Somehow I doubt that if we'd bought Kodija (near exact same profile to Yeni at time of signing) we'd have got hatfuls out of him before selling for £15m. We're repeating the trick now with Wheeler of course. Never mind though only half a million quid.

ngbakoto ngabaktogone on 12:07 - Jan 3 with 7266 views | oldmisery | I spoke to him at the Villa game and asked him why he thought he wasn't in the squad. He said, in extremely good English (another myth dispelled) that the club mostly select him as a winger whilst he prefers the number 10 role. He added that he wasn't sure when he would get another opportunity to show what he can do. In typical Ollie fashion then, he was selected to play against Derby County some three days later. Presumably he didn't cut the mustard because he was subbed off for Washington in the second half. Seemed to be a very nice chap but from what I've seen of him, not a player that can make a difference at Championship level.
ngbakoto ngabaktogone on 12:12 - Jan 3 with 7226 views | DesertBoot | A player that always baffled me. I've no idea why we signed him, no idea where he'd fit into the team and no idea what his best position was. Good luck for the future and thanks for the free-kick at St Andrews
