It's a bright, sunny, warm day here in London and its forecast to get hot this week. I'd love to be in Swansea on days like today. Day on the beach, fish and chips and a few drinks, fit in a Joes - bliss.

Sounds great apart from having a fit in Joe's.

No idea mate...I'm no connosieur of the old 'Gelato' to be honest...

The last encounter with it was soothing my arsegrapes with a Mini Milk after a particulary messy Columbian-themed weekender....

It's lovely along the Thames. The path from Richmond up to Ham is beautiful as well.

Londons a good city in the summer don't get me wrong - all the parks, the river, the cafes and restaurants spilling onto the pavement everywhere.

Still hasn't got a beach or Joes though :-(

Too creamy mun. Thayers is the one and only thing Cardiff ever got right over us!

My Mrs and I had a rather nice walk to 3 cliffs from Oxwich yesterday. Followed by a nice lunch at Oxwich Bay Hotel washed down by some nice Gower Gold ale. Lovely location, really chilled and weather.....well perfect👍

He's got a point in fairness Thayers Ice Cream is lovely, had a medium tub of Joes with nuts and chocolate on it, a week ago and it cost me 3.95 ffs, Mrs had a Strawberry Sunday and the cost came to over 8 quid for 2 fecking ice creams ffs.

It wasn't blowing a gale there then? I spent the day wrapped up at Port Eynion, the wind was wicked.
I should have gone to Three Cliffs instead...or maybe the ale would have warmed me up.

I was at three cliffs once when it was howling a gale at the top. On the beach not a breath and happily sunbathed.

My very first visit to Swansea was a weekend after getting engaged.
Gareth took me to Three Cliffs for the day. I was so impressed, as my idea of the beach was the mudflats at Southend.
It's a very special place for me, even if it's raining.

Genuinely something the matter with you.

Although in fairness I did like a tub of strawberry Thayers from time to time when they had a shop in The Uplands.

Nothing beats a Joes though. Plain, with chocolate and nuts is my current favourite now I don't have it very often. In the past I've gone through phases of hazelnut fudge sundae and a North Pole.

Friends of mine over the years have been awestruck at our beaches. Lots of them used to describe that line of pebbles at Brighton as a beach until they first see Rhosilli.

If we had the weather there would genuinely be no reason to ever go anywhere for a beach holiday - I've never been to a beach in the Med that's as nice. You have to go to the Caribbean or Indian Ocean or similar before you get beaches that are as nice.

Three Cliffs is always lovely, although people not used to it have to be a bit careful - strong rip there sometimes.

You're correct, nothing beats Joes except its capability to add a few inches to pinch.

All true Lisa, now thankfully there are two lifeguards on the beach after the fatalities last year.

Further up the valley we once took a tiny (very tiny) tent, the children were small and we took a small stove along.
The kids were busy looking at the horses and I decided to fry sausages in the tent as it was raining. Raining so much, the tent was shrinking.
On top of that the wasps decided to shelter in the tent, In the heat, the wasps dropped in the pan.

Wasp flavoured sausages anyone?

Don't !

In my cousin's wedding a few years ago there was someone at our table who worked for Joes and told us all how many calories were in a scoop. Absolute git! We were all shouting at her to shut up.

I've blocked it from my mind...

Haven't been to Three Cliffs itself for ages. When we were teenagers we used to spend all summer on Pobbles and walk round sometimes. The walk down the valley is lovely - that's reminded me actually to do that this year if I get chance.

When I was a kid we used to go mainly to Crawley Woods or Horton.

Oxwich went through a phase of bad jellyfish although I had a summer job in the shop there so spent a lot of time at Oxwich.

"I had a summer job in the shop there so spent a lot of time at Oxwich. "

This wouldn't have been in 1984, would it?

Haven't got a vague, misty memory of having kissed an improbably handsome teenaged Ricky Nelson have you?

Directly opposite in fact.

Good but not a patch on a proper Joes.

Its a little known fact that proper Joes is only available from St Helens Rd anything else is substandard.

Gulp!

I genuinely can't remember whether it was 1984 or 1985. I know I was about 17.

I can't rule it out on the kissing bit because I remember that being a particular benefit of working there - lots of tanned boys coming up from the beach.

Sh*t!

I'm a bit worried now !

That definitely wasn't me as I don't have a sister!

However, I also spent a lot of that summer on Pobbles having BBQs in the dunes (parking in the golf club) and in the Beaufort Arms !! Used to go there with a crowd from West Glam music who had been in Bishopston School (then were with me in Olchfa for 6th form). Kara, Anthony, Chris, Andrew Beasley etc.

Remember mad nights in there with everyone singing along to Queen for hours on end (Don't Stop Me Now).

Which one was Onedins? Was that by Castaways?

The old Caswell bay hotel. I think castaways was the top bar and onedins was the nightclub beneath it. My memory is hazy so I'm happy to be corrected.

Andrew Beasley was a year or two above me in bishopston. Big lad, talented musician as I recall.
