I watched the last episode of line of duty and thought that was good. Undercover has finally grabbed by attention. I quite like some of the investigative programmes Stacey Dooley does. However I can't wait for the next series of people just do nothing.
The only bad thing about The WIre is that its left me with a feeling I will never see anything as good again. Utterly superb.
Isn’t that the truth about the wire. I remember watching episode after episode through the night. I also remember how relieved I was when I eventually put the sub titles on as the Baltimore accent wasn’t always easy to understand.

Someone commented earlier that Marlo was a great bad guy, which indeed he was, but Snoop and Chris Partlow were the really sinister ones. It was like receiving a visit from the Grim Reaper when those two showed up.

They did the deed but remember that Marlo was always pulling the strings. The best example is the shop security guard who rubbed him up the wrong way. And the way he did Prop Joe was cold.
On the basis that I LOVED the Sopranos and West Wing (watched complete box sets of each twice through) I was given the complete DVD box set of The Wire last Christmas, but struggled to get through series 1. Just about managed it, but not inclined to start on series 2-5.
Does the Wire improve as it progresses, or is series 1 as good as it gets?

Some people hate marmite others love it, if that helps
Thank you to whoever recommended The Detectorists. Absolutely smashed through the first 2 seasons in about a week - love it. Lovely, hilarious, brilliant TV.
Annoyingly the 3rd season isn't on Netflix and iPlayer only has from episode 3 so will have to wait until I am at home to stream it. Still - well worth a watch if you haven't already.

That was me. Glad you liked it, Simmo.
There's definitely sites that have it - watchseries or tvraven, for instance. PM me if you're stuck.

I think it gets better but Series 1 is one of the better ones. Stick with it, though.
I'm re-watching Series 3 right now. Love it. And 'The West wing' is my favourite TV show of all time.

Ok, thanks Brian.
One of the problems was seemingly poor sound, especially clarity of speech.
We now have a better sound system on the TV and our noisiest-always-butting-in son is now at uni, so we may get sufficient peace and quiet to be able to watch it...

Like yourself I'm a proper Soprano's nutjob.
Re 'The Wire' I'm currently overdosing on the bloody thing something like two episodes per night, I've done episodes 1,2 and last night I finished episode 3. Stick with it, get back into it and watch it if you've got the complete DVD box set and time, like anything it's all about peoples opinions, for me 'The Wire' is very cleverly scripted and acted, I'm no fan of the television and we barely turn the bloody thing on but 'The Wire' has got me switching the television on most if not every night. I'm starting Serious 4 tonight unless her indoors has got other plans.
I like Omar Little, he's one cool badass MOFO.

There was some great bits Amsterdam, the polish dockers, the whole election with Tony carcetti.

Grim Reaper, indeed.
My favourite image of them is while waiting outside the convenience store for the pederast.
That particular segment is shown from 8:00 onwards and for me the classic image is at 8:53 - they are waiting so nonchalant, almost incidental. This is my image of Impending Death from The Wire (you have to reflect upon how your own death might appear). Small wonder the target looks over his shoulder at them without recognising the relevance. Chris has several scenes where he is the ironically merciful Angel of Death, quick, clean, considerate, but he brutally beats that man to death, painful and ugly. Cosmic stuff.

Try YouTube for episodes 1&2 - might not be great quality etc but will scratch your itch
Recently been watching American Horror Story. Seasons 1 and 2 were good. Season 3 was meh so gonna give season 4 a try to see if it works. Not particularly scary but more disconcerting. Jessica Lange is a tour de force, amazing actress.
iZombie - good if you like 'pop' zombie stuff, more like NCIS meets zombies than The Walking dead or that ilk.
GoT - season 7 is still good, doesn't have the punch of those first two seasons but well worth watching all the way through if you have time over Xmas.
Has anyone watched "the corner"? I bought it t'other day and am gonna watch it after I have read the book, done by the same guys who did the Wire (which is the dogs bollox).

Brace yourself Ted, Series 4's the big one.
A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.

I've watched 'The Corner', toboboly. Very good.

Does anyone remember the Dennis Potter plays from the 70's and 80's? "Pennies From Heaven" "The singing Detective" and others, the music alone in "Pennies" was worth the TV Licence alone, Potter was a genius.

Just shouts to start series 5 of The Wire....it’s been very very good up till now. I do struggle to understand the accents at times but generally follow. I do love the way they expose and criticise the whole bent system from the political top to the bottom As someone else has said, you end up empathising with quite a few characters you don’t expect to - finished series 4 couple of nights ago and ended up feeling really sorry for Bubbs at the end.
After we smash the last series of The Wire I have two series of Peaky Blinders, Snowfall, The Story of The Jam and Trainspotting 2 to watch. Good job we have a lot of peanuts and Corona in for the festive period
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
Well that's it I watched Series 4 and went straight on to Series 5 which I finished last night, marvellous television and I'm disappointed that its actually finished.
Never realised that Dominic West (Jim McNulty) was English.
Omar Little was easily my favourite character (A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go) brilliant, really brilliant.
Snoop was a bad ass and that's a fact
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
I also finished Series 5 of The Wire last night and I'm now at a loss what to watch on the odd evenings where I have a two hour window.
Really, really enjoyed all the charecters in The Wire and the continuity across the series was spot on. I partcularly liked the evolution of Bubbles charecter and you really found yourself rooting for him to get and stay clean. Agree though, Omar was the mutts nuts and I called it that he'd end up the way he did in such simple fashion -- dunno the actors name but he was equally as good, if not better, as Chalkie Whyte in Broadwalk Empire.
So tonight it's Palace v Arse and a few Guinness but then what? I've got the Oasis doc from BBC2 which is two hours and then it's Peaky Blinders for me I suppose
