He's stopped winning matches or even threatening to, he's never really inspired confidence in his defensive duties.
Last night must be the end of the road, we are safe in the division, Phillips could be held responsible for having his role in all three goals, why do we need him play, why does JFH need to watch him play....if they let you down once, they will again.

One thing that can't be measured by stats is heart and that is one thing McPhillips patently lacks.yes he does have ability, hence the goals and assists but the golden period with Austin looks like a blip. He's had enough chance to show he means business but most of the time doesn't look interested , which is why he gets stick. And it's not cos we lost . IMO he was equally poor v Brentford when rest of the team were superb.Maybe another manager will be able to motivate him to produce more consistently but I can't see a future here. We had 3 sort of wingers on the bench v Boro so no surprise he was subbed. I've never understood players who have ability but use it so rarely. | | | |

Phillips has been up and down this season. In the Middlesbrough game he was played out of position and didn't get into the game, but in my opinion does not deserve to be made Public Enemy No. 1. I think people are lumping him in with some of the real wasters who came from big clubs (he did not come to us from a big club).
He has probably suffered more than anyone from the loss of Austin as a big part of his game was old school crossing to an old school centre forward. |  |

Gotten to the point where you can't criticise a player on here anymore without being considered a boo boy or a pessimist. Phillips is not a confidence player. He only looked good in the Premier League because we were unbelievably shite. He scored on wonder goal, now tries it everytime even if there are better options. He gets one good cross in from every 10 shit ones he does. He doesn't run back, never helps the defence, gets cocky, gets greedy, and never tries to take on his man. In two years of being us he has been good for 3 months, and even then he was just made to look good. Complete waste of a player |  |
