This season just might be taking a whole new turn. 16:52 - Feb 28 with 5186 viewsmorningstar

I may be wrong but I do believe that if Chelsea win tomorrow, and if Liverpool contest the FA cup final against either Man Utd or Arsenal, then 7th place will get you into europe!

They've changed the rules this season. Runners up in cup competitions no longer get Europa League spots. It goes to the league.

So it's even simpler then,as long as either Liverpool Arsenal or Man Utd win the FA cup, and Chelsea win tomorrow!

We're six points behind Southampton, can we finish above them? Don't see us catching Liverpool or Spurs but Southampton and 7th might be doable.

Ye, Southampton would be the target for me. Unless we win at White hart lane Wednesday night!

It's a uefa rule change, not an FA one.

That is a possibility the way Spurs played in the Europa this week.

I won't be rooting for it. I don't rate the Europa League - mediocre competition. It also means Sunday PL games which are a total pain. As a remote ST holder Saturday at 3:00 suits me just fine.

Sadly, all of our seasons so far except 2013-14 in the Premier League have taken a turn at 40 points -- going flat for 3 or 4 games. Coasting is my guess.

Let's hope Monk can give them a reason to "take a whole new turn."

Can't speak for anyone else but I would love another crack at the Europa next season. I can understand Chelsea etc. not taking it seriously but for smaller clubs it's a great competition.

I'm an exile st holder and non Saturday 3pm ko's are a pain, but I would 100% put up with it again for another Europa League adventure. The only people that wouldn't want this surely are those that didn't do any of the away games last time and wouldn't next time either.

Plus, who in their right mind wouldn't always want us to do as well as we can. Cannot work that out

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?

Was just thinking that the other day! I hope we can finish above Southampton and make it into Europe! Then a chance to make it into the champions league if we were to win the Europa league.

Not sure how the league cup works. Does it matter who wins assuming Chelsea and Spurs both finish above us?

As far as the Europa League goes it should be a case of 'been there, done it'. And forget it. It's a mediocre competition that generates little financial gain and disrupts the schedule. For a small squad like Swansea it is much too taxing on resources. I'd prefer perennial Premier League survival and membership The Europa League is a crock of shit - save ourselves for the Champions League in a few years. Think big!

So wouldn't that mean that if Liverpool and Arsenal/Utd are in the FA cup final AND both get into europe, 8th place would be UEL too?

Call me unambitious but I'd suggest that if you want to see us in the Champions League then our best chance will be by virtue of winning the Europa League.

Top four is a pipe dream, no matter what anyone says about us getting to the mythical "next level".
