Saints Head To Germany As They Continue The Search For A Winger
Monday, 4th Apr 2016 15:52

Saints have been looking in the Bundesliga over the past few weeks according to media sources in Germany.

Saints have report ably watching Nurnberg winger Guido Burgstaller and had a scout at Nurnberg's 3-0 win at FSV Frankfurt in the Bundesliga 2 following on from also watching him in action for Austria against Turkey.

Burgstaller has played in this country before signing for Cardiff City in the summer of 2014 but leaving less than six months later making only 3 Championship appearances for the Welsh club.

He then joined Nurnberg and this season has starred in their side as they push for promotion scoring 11 goals in 27 games in the second tier of German football.

This has lead to Saints charting his progress and they are being reported as being keen to sign him up for a good price as they feel that his value could soar if as expected he plays a starring role for the Austrians in the upcoming European Championships.

Only drawback might be the players age, he will turn 27 in a few weeks time and although that would put him at the peak of his career, Saints usually like to sign players a year or two younger that means they can get a good sell on value further on down the line.

But that could be counter balanced if Saints could get him at a good price.

With the money we'll have from TV rights in the summer we should be able to buy the Bundesliga!

Let's just hope this isn't true...
And for sure Burgstaller will not "play a starring role" for Austria in the European Championship as he is far from being a starter. Arnautovic and Harnik are much better than he is, you can always spot a drop the Standard of attacking Play, when he is fielded for the last couple of minutes...
I was surprised when he went to Cardiff, but I was for sure not surprised that he didn't make it there. How that should change in the Premier League is a mystery to me...
