Sorry Paal
at 02:35 28 Dec 2024

In his message, Nourry repeatedly makes reference to 'we' (I don't think he's using the royal we) and 'the group' as the basis for recruitment decisions. What beggars belief is the idea that that group wouldn't include Marti as an active contributor, as well as the other coaching/ development staff. If the squad is short, unless he really is some kind of dictator with the 'front of house' as his puppet administration, it's a collective leadership issue. What's also interesting is MC is currently making noises about not necessarily needing or wanting a lot of activity in the window, but instead wanting to focus on in-house development. I have worries about Nourry, for sure, but, for all these reasons, I don't accept or agree that all our problems should be laid at his door.

Thanks for your perfectly balanced reply, but I'm still struggling to understand what part of my own 2nd paragraph in my original post you're not getting. It's a fairly simple point, surely?

Well, I gave up on you months ago and your pitiful 'adult in the room' pose, so that probably makes us quits.

QPR's unbeaten run crushed in Swansea Christmas horror - Report
at 20:25 27 Dec 2024

Think the report actually goes quite easy on the team (and management team) at the end, even if the loss of Morrison clearly played a big part in upsetting the apple cart. None of which explains the utter systemic failure from front to back for at least 45 mins. Even when we got a bit of the ball, though, we did little or nothing with it. You'd be hard pressed to find a worse showing anywhere this season.

As I wasn't there, I was interested to know how the away support reacted at the end, and what acknowledgment there was from the players/manager, if any.

Which hopefully the coaching team will be onto and discussing with the team (not that we're likely to be told if they do.) Mind you, after Marti's reports about trying to gee up the team to break our Boxing Day hoodoo in Wales, he's hardly coming across as Mr Motivator right now. Either it's not working or they're not listening.

I don't think we'll get mullered this time, but I don't think it's going to be pretty.

Sam Field on today's defeat

I know this is the wearying 'line', but l I just don't buy it, that's all. It also doesn't address the counter-point I've made about these interviews being a waste of fans' time, and in fact adding insult to injury, if the manager is essentially saying 'I have my thoughts about what's going on, but I'm not going to tell you'. If MC had basically summarised what you say here, it's hardly incendiary news, as your eyes don't lie to you! Instead, by saying he isn't going to 'blame the players' because we picked up a few points recently (conveniently overlooking the abjection v Oxford and Bristol City), he's basically saying that it's OK/understandable/acceptable to just not turn up once in a while. In that case, why all the secrecy? It doesn't stack up, it shows a lack of pride, and it's all so QPR.

To repeat, this is professional football, which means good players want to be good players all the time. Sometimes you'll lose, sure, or fall short, but you turn up, play football, and you're competitive. If some people still find any of this somehow contrarian, I don't know what to say to them.

Why take a reasonable point and then turn it into its extreme opposite unless your sole interest is to caricature what's being said?

I quoted Marti in that WLS piece, and his August interview, to highlight the disconnect between those fans who are telling us every week that the squad is light, unbalanced, etc. etc., and MC's own (perhaps surprising) view.

Of course, as someone tried to tell me, the head coach could be putting out statements that are the opposite of what he actually thinks, which, silly me, I lack the lit. crit. skills to turn upside down to read rightly.

I've been watching QPR for 48 years, and I've never - never - seen anything like that first half. They were an absoloute disgrace to their profession, and then some.

10/10 again for smug judgmentalism! Why don't you actually read my reply instead of tooting your own tedious little trumpet?

Marti said we were virtually 'absent' in that Swansea first half but refused to tell us his thoughts as to why, while Field just more or less shrugged his shoulders, said he couldn't 'put his finger' on it, and repeated 'that's football'. Except it isn't/wasn't - it was just surreally abject! Like the first half against Oxford and virtually the whole game against Bristol City, it was off any footballing scale of diabolical.

If MC is also saying, confusingly, we need to turn the page quickly while learning from it, one wonders (since clearly no one's telling us plebs anything) just WHAT is being learned. If people want adult communication from Nourry, which he's now showing some signs of cottoning on to, it makes no sense to indulge this kind of self-serving evasiveness/ vagueness from the coach or his players. In fact, I'd suggest it's part of the problem.

This is so utterly garbled as a picture of what I've written on this issue, and so unilluminating of anything, you might as well have written it in Klingon!

I'd be happy if that were to happen, as most of my ire/pain is around QPR and only derivatively some of the discussions/discussants on here. I also think you're right that the question of tone is, and can only be, read - and sometimes misread - 'between the lines' on a board like this one. If everyone knew each other in person, or people could meet and sort out their differences over a pint, a lot of this hot air probably wouldn't arise.

It's not my job to explain it, is it? But our acting captain's shoulder shrug ('that's football') and Cifuentes' bizarro 'I have my thoughts (but the last thing I'm going to do is talk about them)' really hacks me off on top of the codswallop he and his players served up. If you don't want to talk about the game and pay the paying fans' some self-respect with a bit of insight, or you're too stupid to have any, don't do the f*cking interviews!

I very much doubt he bothers to read LfW or any of the fan platforms for that matter, unless he's a glutton for punishment and vitriol etc.

I read his address and found it well-written, informative and reasonably reflective while maintaining the mostly positive 'spin' one would expect from any official statement of this kind. Its timing is neither here nor there. I work as a professional editor and, if I were evaluating his text, I'd probably change very little of it. (By contrast, for the record, Marti has taken to telling us he has his 'thoughts' about the players and our injury record but he isn't going to share them, which is apparently perfectly ok with some.)

Nourry's tone, given his position, is also fine overall. As a person with family members on the spectrum, I would, however, be genuinely interested to know what you mean by calling it 'very autistic' if you'd care to elaborate.

I gave a view and nothing more than a passing sarcastic opinion about posters who say the same thing time and time again without evidence about Nourry, which is actually quite tame compared to what other non-vilified and/or idealised writers on this board publish. I wasn't 'hijacking' anything - I've as much right to write here as you do. However, I have regularly received completely unprovoked abuse on 'perfectly good' threads of my own, if you care to go back and read a few of them. Meanwhile, you complain I regularly insult others when what I regularly do is in fact to offer up fiercely contested views and supported argument on all things QPR - while insulting/dehumanising me yourself (as a 'walking thesaurus' now) to add to the many abuses I receive here across the lexical spectrum, irrespective of what I say.

Sure I can be tart, fractious and trenchant, but just because I critique the simplistic/black and white groupthink consensus that Nourry is the devil's spawn and Marti can do no wrong, while reflecting others' vindictiveness back to them, I get treated by a few here as some kind of online punchbag. It's just pathetic.
