I have to say I do not understand this obsession with statistics. To my knowledge it may help a bit in the team's self confidence and hence maybe intimidate the opposition, but other than that this weekend's result does not matter any more than the colour of Monk's underwear.
Koemann is having an unbelievable season so far, but he could be out in a year from now whether he is the best the have ever seen or not.
BR almost won the PL last season - he could be out in three months and people in Liverpool may argue if he was the best or just lucky to have Suarez. Surely neither is the truth. |

Well, I was never a big fan of the MK sacking, but I really do not think it has much to do with how the team performed before and after the sack. I think in the end it is taking a chance. GM could have done better than he did and it would still be taking a chance:
on signings - to come in as a class player you will be taking a chance
on players leaving - Bony may very well take his 20 goals and cash it in
on handling of the boat if a streak of bad results will come in
on other areas too, I am sure
GM may do very well, but the question is, what if he doesn't? How will he and the team react? Well, hopefully, but certainly there is a big question mark, which a bigger and more experienced name has to deal with too, but (I think) a little later. For Monk it will be right away as I have seen here in the posts: Fans with a memory of an ant with a severe Alzheimer. Bad subs, bad tactics and so on.
He has a big heart and a lot of courage, but that is far from enough for a PL club like Swansea.
Look to Tottenham TS did OK there too, but he needs to earn his credentials somewhere else first. They will bring in a big name, because that is what it takes, to handle the stars, to handle the pressure on and off the pitch.
I hope the board will see it the same way as the Spurs board. |

I aggree on the whole with ML waiting for a bigger club with bigger budget , however I dont think he would have gone through the PC, if not also to "clear" his name. And as it says in the article amongst the professionals of the PL found the sacking surprinsing and harsh. He was called by big name (who apparently had his number :-) ), so I am sure he stills wants a PL manager seat. |

Well, it's a bit of a headache isn't - before Thursday it was pretty clear - just roll out the A-team, but now with the Palace game following so closely softer approach might be needed.
What if the match on Thursday goes into extra time? Palace not fallen out the back at all, just 2 points behind or even 1 point ahead, if they win the game they are behind, will hit us full strength.
On the other hand by fortune, the West brom game has been postponed so a big break is there to recover. |

It's neither about ML, nor HJ or GM, it's about the club. Wigan went down after 6-7 years how do we avoid that. Maybe as someone suggested the stragedy should hire managers in the same way players are pciked rising stars travelling through; and players/managers with a strong club sense. Maybe in the end there is only room for one welsh club in the PL, money wise and player wise. |

I certainly did not want to target Monk & Jenkins personally, but point to what I see as a weakness in the current strategy. I saw some comment on my post supporting this as well as other posts in here today with similar disappointment.
A special apology to Darran for picking on you like that. I know you can take it, but all the same, I apologize.

I dont think I have more assumptions than otherwise applied by everybody including the board, so I think the score is tied on assumptions.
It is very true that we could have gone out today with ML at the steering wheel, of course it is the FA cup, but I dont think I have seen a more let's roll over team than the one put out there today. It's humiliating to the players and it is disrespectful to the FA cup.
The point about Britton is that you cannot count on having players like him in the club always. The point is that to play with the big boys, you have to attract players like Bony, Michu and Hernandez to name a few. I did not want to criticize Britton at all - he is a super player, but like Gerrard in Liverpool they are a dying breed in the PL and you cannot base your future on the type of club player.
I think I am bias against the ambition that is being displayed, because it was not necessary. Except darlin Brendan, I have not seen one professional comment saying it was a good and logical decision at this time - and todays sacrifice just made me even more annoyed with this strategy.
I have seen many comments in here about ML's way of playing down the chances against big teams. And hail Mary for GM and Jenkins, but you beat them with your feet and not your mouth.
ML's results against big teams were OK I think. And he would never have rolled over like this - where is the pride in that? |

Well, let's see so far:
With half a squad ML managed to keep us in 12th spot in the PL, last 16 in the FA and last 32 in the EL.
With more or less a full squad GM has managed 4 points against two very weak teams and now out of the FA, bravo. Next we can ambitious ourselves out of the EL with a full team selection, because I hope noone really believes GM is tactically up to play against a team like Napoli.
And when Britton is 47 and still playing the Swansea way, where do you think Swanesea will be playing?

Yes, nice to have him back punhcing holes in the air on high balls - really missed that. LOL
Quicker than Tremmel maybe, but ludicrously weak in the box on high balls. Without Bony they would still be banging them in left and right.
But I could recognise them all five of them on that Crouch goal yesterday. |

Good point, but how do you balance this? I mean, until the SCFC is safe - does that mean you would play your b lineup for CC and FA, and hope for the best? Actually, I think that was what ML did in the CC last year and then all of a sudden with a bit of luck it could be won. |

I am not passing judgment on whether ML did the right thing with Amat at Upton, but I get from what you are saying that Leon should have played all games this season. Of course, you can only say yes; otherwise you will have contradicted yourself. |

In my view if you combine what you read in here with the board's reason for sacking (a breakdown of the Swansea way) it actually carries a lot of credibility. Most of all it seems his determination to keep the manager ML and the person ML separate has upset many. His rotation scheme has also produced quite a few critics. The lack of ability to motivate. It seems to collide with the Swansea way.
Maybe Laudrup was too big for Swansea, his ego (believe in his own methods) was too big. It has been said by someone in here that he is the way he is because of his background - well, who isn't:-)? But I know - Lazio, Juve, Barca, Real, (Kobe) and Ajax. All big clubs (except Kobe) with long, long traditions at the highest level and hence football clubs where it is primarily about winning; and not just matches, but championships and cups. All the time he has been playing with players who also would play in the World Cup for countries like Spain, Holland, Italy, Brazil, Argentina and Germany. So Laudrup comes from this context - this what he knows and this is what he knows it takes - to win.
Maybe he was thinking: I am going to transform this little welsh club into a real professional club. And maybe the board went along with it dazzled by fame and conviction. Remember the level of the PL has been raised primarily by international players and managers.
So what is that transformation? Well, most international top managers do not seem to have much to do with the players outside of the game. They are "just" pieces in his chess game. There is a story about Guardiola demanding Messi not to drink coca cola. I imagine what the stories of Laudrup if he had asked Ash or Dyer the same.
Swansea has made it to the top, but what does it take to stay at the top (Wigan went down after 7 years)?
Money of course and loads of it. Why? to buy players. Somewhere down the line the players and managers are only going to be there for two things: money and success. If either of the two is not in sight they will move on. What kind of manager will succeed in this kind of club (like the big 8)? A manager who is best friend with everybody, even though he can only pick 11(+3) or a manager who treats everybody the same so he can pick his 11 without feeling compelled to pick someone because of their relationship?
There is no answer to this except is comes down to the manager, but I think it is an exception when the manager is trying to be everybody's friend.
Of all of it there is one trend that I cannot see even Monk getting around and that is the rotation, but here is my question then: Has he been asked to play draughts(only focus on the PL) or chess(PL, EL and FA)?
To play draughts he can do with his favourite 11, but he if is playing chess like all the big chess players(managers) then he needs far more.
Draughts: Stoke, Liverpool, Palace
Chess: Stoke(away), Everton(away), Napoli(home), Liverpool(away), Napoli(away), Palace
What do you think - should Monk play draughts or chess?
