Our best team ever (1975/76) suffered occasional injury problems, but, with poorer pitches, a heavier ball, tougher tackling and only one substitute allowed, it was pretty consistent in its line-up. Why, with the facilities available, the huge number of substitutes allowed, so many tackles penalised, the better pitches and the advances in medical science, do we (and other teams) have so many injury problems? |

'One game at a time', of course, but when we look at our last nine matches, we can see four wins, four draws and one defeat; 12 goals scored, seven conceded, 16 points gained. If we were to we maintain that form until the end of the season, we would end up with 64 points. These figures guarantee nothing regarding the matches ahead, but they do, at least, put in perspective that Christmas Pudding performance at Swansea. |

Thank you. I thought that it probably was. So, which airline would like to pay a fortune to advertise on the roof of the Bhatia Stand and the Stanley Bowles stand? |

After Boxing Day and after a radical re-shuffle to cope with injuries, it surely tells us something that so many of us are actually disappointed with a 1-1 draw at Norwich!! Well done Rangers. Yes, it could have been three points but we appreciate that effort that went into that (and Marti's management of the resources). |

I share those thoughts, except for the culinary idea. [Post edited 29 Dec 2024 8:06]

I was not there. I watched the club stream. So, forgive me if I am missing something. I think certain things can be forgiven. Almost certainly, there was a game plan to let Swansea pretend to be Barcelona, dispossess them and attack on the break. Already harder to do than usual, because of Steve Cook's absence, this was badly disrupted by Morrison's late withdrawal. The last-minute patching up meant that Swansea found themselves able to do more than play their possession game - they were actually able to threaten our goal. But, we did win the ball from time to time. Trouble was, we promptly gave it away; so often that I think Swansea concluded that we were no threat at all and they could enjoy themselves. We seemed to have noone to play the ball out to and that reinforced the 'defence versus attack' mentality. There was no 'transition'. For spells in the second half, we were far more positive. A change of personnel made a difference and I imagine, so did the team talk. But, it was to no avail. We were never going to climb out of a 3-0 hole. My guess is that, before Norwich, a lot of thought will be given to how to make the best of a damaged defence (Marti earns his keep here) and how to be more threatening on the break. Chair and Frey will surely start the game? |

Agree about the risk to SC's career, Philo, but it need not be quite as bad. Didn't Ebere Eze rupture an Achilles when he joined Crystal Palace? |

It was correct to play on. Players today feign injury so often that an attacking player might have assumed that there was nothing wrong with Steve Cook. Perhaps there should be a weekly TV programme featuring the players who had fallen clutching their heads, when the head had not been touched and the others who cry out and fall around when they get the slightest knock (or even no knock at all). |

It is exactly what most of us would want if we were living there. Football fans, en masse, do not always appreciate what other people think of them. Some do, but do not care. It will be those who triggered the gating-off. |

Saving a team from relegation in the Championship is different from saving one from relegation in the Premier League. Surely, Southampton need someone with a track record in the PL? |

On the pitches that I used to play on, you would not have done that. Well, maybe once. A stone in the knee can be somewhat discouraging. |

I thought the keeper tried half-heartedly to block Smyth, who had to decide whether to go down. This time, he made the right decision. |

Much of that game was, indeed, a very hard watch for Rangers fans. But, we are still closer to the drop zone than fans and the club would wish us to be. That requires a game plan, in order take the climb up the table. Marti's plan was clearly to defend doggedly and try to catch them on the break. It was ugly but it worked. The defenders were very good at their job. It would have been even better if the break-out moves were conducted more carefully and if our lonely striker had been able to hold on to the ball a little longer. But, we are not Liverpool. We have to make the best of what we have and Marti does that well. Like it or not, today's result was a success. |
| Forum Thread | Joe Gelhardt of Leeds United at 09:34 13 Dec 2024
I had never heard of him, but there is a rumour that we are interested in getting him on loan in January. Apparently, Leeds would not want him to go to a club that is competing with them for promotion, hence this: “QPR would be one of those teams that isn’t going to interfere with Leeds’ promotion chances, so if he is not going to go to a top club in the Championship, then he may well look at a move to Scottish giants Rangers.” In view of that comment, it would be particularly satisfying to 'interfere with' their promotion chances. Trouble is, I don't think Joe Gelhardt would help us achieve that, or would he? Anyone know? |

Like everyone else, I am delighted with the tightening up of the defence. But, in the first half last night, a better team than Oxford would have taken advantage of some very sloppy play from Rangers. How many unforced errors were there in the first 45 minutes? It was very hard to understand after Saturday's performance. |
| Forum Reply | QPR v Oxfoooooord match thread at 20:43 11 Dec 2024
Half-time could not come too soon. Oxford look unambitious and we are sloppy. If this were a Sunday morning team, I would attribute it to hangovers. How can the performance look so different from that of Saturday? Marti will surely shake this up. |
