Have to say, this has been the closest euros in terms of team quality I've ever seen. The expected underdogs are all playing better than expected and Spain, maybe Germany aside all of the favorites have been utter garbage. Belgium, England, Portugal, France, Italy, Netherlands - all terrible so far. |

I'm not saying that this specific player is worth that much money but the strategy is about potential.
Someone the caliber of Illias Chair, much as we love him, isn't going to get in Spurs team. You could buy 8, 10, 30 players that quality, it doesnt matter how many of them there are. Or, you could buy one player who might or might not be good enough.
I can understand the logic even if I don't agree with the decision. |

For as dull as it's been, if you believe the advanced metrics the expected goals conceded for England is lower than anyone else in the tournament.
It actually makes me feel better about our chances against the better sides of we get that far, but I don't understand for the life of me why we've been playing like that against sides we should be attacking ruthlessly |

That was dire. Again.
But....we are through and with zero drama? Everyone has looked a bit shite at this Euros except for Spain and to a lesser extent Germany.
We might do ok in this tournament but it's going to be a horrible watch. |

Absolutely is a bore fest. Theoretically Croatia will go balls to the wall for a win as that will take them through and nothing else will....but they really don't seem interested |

Resurrecting an old thread rather than starting a new one.
Went to The Sphere in Vegas to see the latest iteration of the Grateful Dead on Saturday, wow.
That place is absolutely incredible. I enjoy the Grateful Dead when I hear their music but really don't know many of their songs, the wife is a big fan though. Despite not knowing any songs, that's still a top 3 gig all time for me, they put on a good show and The Sphere is unlike any other place I've ever been and they were perfect for that venue. |

Completely losing this in midfield. In our own third our defence has actually been ok, they aren't really creating GOOD chances, they just have the ball, all the time. That's on our midfield.
Got to bring TAA off. |

I had the same thought. Can't remember the last game I watched which had a team win as many free kicks in the middle third of the pitch. Grealish maybe could have won some a little closer to the box. |

Since moving to the US I've gone back and forth on basketball.
On the one hand it still has incredible iconic moments like buzzer beaters. But because of the nature of the action, give or take a 50% chance that any possession is going to result in a score, it's effectively incredibly low stakes for each possession until the last 5 minutes of the game, so it's kind of hard to get really worked up and dialed in until then. And probably no more than 30% of games are really still close by that point.
If you're watching a game and it is one of the dramatic ones, then it's up there in terms of entertainment with any other sport. But the fact that there's a lower likelihood it will happen AND if it doesn't, almost none of the game has been exciting AND when it is dramatic, by definition it drags on with a timeout every other play, I can see why it turns some people off. It would be like if 70% of football matches a team was 3-0 up by halftime, the rest of the game would just feel like going through the motions a bit.
Personally it's still my second favourite US sport after the NFL (which I enjoy even more than football these days) but I can see why it doesn't get the same amount of love. |
