He's sounding much more like his old self - actually, better said, a more worldly wise upgrade on his old self.

No doubt in my mind he'll get them on a good run -maybe even as ridiculous as that season he got Palace promoted with some insane number of wins on the bounce.

..Or maybe just that most posters on here are prepared to look at the mechanics of what happened today and have some level of balanced empathy with the circumstances that led to it happening, rather than indulging ourselves in a feast of pointless finger-pointing and lust for spilled blood.

Hmmm - interesting and enlightening response, but probably not in the way you intended.

Seems that all of your role models have something in common, and that's a psychopathic tendency to want to "win at all costs" - a facet that might well breed success in the short term, but that leads to a lot of casualties in the process of one type or another.

It also a common thread amongst all of them that they all justify their psychopathic tendencies by their success, with no interest in the damage inflicted on their victims in the process.

Can't think of many people who still have a lot of respect for how your role models achieved their goals. McEnroe and Keane in particular have spent a lot of time publicly reinventing their respective images, and its particularly interesting to me that Messrs Keane and Ferguson don't have many good words for each other now they're no longer in each other's orbit.

Still, if that's the kind of environment you want to see brought to bear at Heston/W12, perhaps you should share your thoughts with the CEO directly,

As for me, I'd prefer to go with the quieter, more reasoned approach of a Stock, Jago or Sexton - 3 leaders who had their own levels of success without creating a toxic working environment in the process.

Nice to see that in this constantly changing world in which we now reside, we can rely on your usual dose of overreaction as a peg of familiarity to cling onto!

Today was not a great watch - fair point, and I doubt you'll have too many disagreeing with you on that. Clearly, the players had been told to sit in a mid-block when Swansea had the ball, and you can justifiably put that down to a tactical error by the coaching staff, and a strange one at that, considering how well the energetic high press has worked over the last few matches.

By letting Swansea have that much unchallenged possession, we clearly gave them the inititiative to dictate play which might atcually have been OK if we'd been able to deal with their fluidity off the ball and the pace of their movement in between the lines.

There seemed to be a lot of confusion about who should be tracking who, and this was exacerbated by our failure to hold onto the ball for any period of time on the rare occasions we did win it back.

All that said, there was a marked improvement in our work without the ball in the second half, particularly when Chair and Ashby came on, which suggests that we were feeling leggy after the Preston game. When you add that into the fact that you've got a centre back pairing who have probably only played a handful of games together during their QPR career to date, its easy to see why the plan unravelled as it did in the first half.

So yes, you can point fingers across the board for this one, but I would respectfully suggest that we're a little away from bringing the firing squad in just yet, and as for suggesting that the players might want to knock several layers of sh*t out of each other, I'm not exactly sure how that helps them to work together productively going forwards.

Perhaps you might care to enlighten us all as to which managerial guru's famed process you subscribe to?

QPR v Not Preston again Match Thread

It appears that, unbeknownst to us, whilst the footballing world has been obsessing over Pep Genius Guardiola appearing to descend into public nervous breakdown territory, and Marcus "Always A Red" Rashford deciding that £325,000 a week might actually not be enough to convince him to be "Always A Red" after all, there's been some conspiracy happening behind the scenes to ensure that Preston North End and Queens Park Rangers actually morph into being...wait for it (gasps of shock horror...) THE SAME TEAM!

Preston North End P 21 W4 D11 L6 F21 A 27
Queens Park Rangers P 21 W4 D10 L7 F21 A27
So let me formally announce that Saturday will now be the official unveiling of the newly merged outfit Preston Queens North Park End Rangers FC or PQNPER for short...
On the plus side, since it turns out we're actually playing ourselves, could this mean there's an increased chance of us winning...?

McLean suspended for 4 matches

I'm not in any way trying to suggest that Lynch was the Second Coming of Glenn Roeder, but he definitely held his own in that rag-tag of a squad, as both Ollie and Birch were very keen to stress when I asked about this.

Birch was very keen not to name names specifically, but he did say that there were others in the squad he didn't see in as positive a light.

Wasn't it you who moaned like a squealing pig last week about being unfairly scapegoated (hilarious in itself), yet you think its perfectly fine to dig out a player who - even with his various apparently unscheduled absences - played a significant role in keeping us in the Championship during his time with us?

I had a long chat with Ollie about Lynch after we'd beaten Forest 2-1 (managed btw at the time by Warbs Warburton no less) to ensure we stayed up that season, and I remember clearly marking Lynch as MoM that day. Ollie also was fulsome in his praise of him, and said that keeping us up that season was, he believed, the best achievement of his management career to date.

Spot on EL. I wrote on Saturday That I thought his interview with Tyler on the official site showed him to be humble, well balanced, confident but in no way arrogant.

Of course, that doesn't take away from the fact that his Dad might have overplayed his hand with Nourry, hence the hardball response from both him and Marti.

I strongly suspect we are getting very close to a good old British "meet you in the middle" compromise.

This has just gone up on the official site, and I have to say, I think he comes across very well. Quite balanced, quite humble but not shy - very aware that there's more work to do if he wants to get to the level of playing regulaly and that his all-round game is important.

Gavin Mahon in 'Forever' Rs

..And to your point about your thread being " perfectly reasonable", I would counter with the viewpoint that if Gavin Mahon, or any ex-player for that matter, has worn the R's shirt and has chosen to acknowledge the support that the fans has given him by accepting an induction into the Forever R's Club, than that is enough in my book for him to be accepted as a "Forever R".

I personally don't understand your obsession with length of service as a criteria to qualify for this honour. Surely the fact that the player chooses to acknowledge his time with us as significant is enough in itself.

The fact that you choose to use the words "sanctimonious" and "patronising" in your response, whilst being entirely predictable, also say a lot more about you than you seem to realise...

Not sure its me that needs to look in the mirror, is it...

For someone who is very keen to share the benefit of his expertise and experience on a wide range of topics, you do a very good impression of being a totally clueless gimp when it comes to understanding how people work.

You ask for absolute credence and respect to be given to your opinions, but you express them in a particularly obnoxious way, and then choose to humiliate anyone who dares to say something you don't agree with.

You have truly learnt nothing from what people have been continually trying to tell you over this past year, and then you wonder why no-one takes you seriously..

Talking about " dubious dichotomies", isn't this piece of yours an embodiment of one itself?

On the one hand you're irrationally criticising Clive for having the foresight to be prepared for what is a perfectly logical assumption, based on the general culture in football across all the major leagues, i.e. to make the Head Coach/ manager the scapegoat whenever all things head south, as if its a direct, personal betrayal of said Head Coach.

Then in the next breath, you criticise the Head Coach yourself and show some level of support for the Chief Scapegoater, namely the CEO.

Of all the supposedly non black and white issues that we've debated on this Forum over God knows how many years now, I would suggest this is actually one of the more straightforward and authentically black and white ones!
