Delighted too that the team could honour your dad's memory with a good performance and a win.

I think he was in the area but, yes, that one. Keeper palms the ball to Smyth, Paul's volley hits the crowd, ball deflects to Varane, who sends it into orbit.

I'd be surprised (if not astonished) if QPR are sleeping on this one as Dunne has been immense and is coming into his prime. However, it takes two to tango; Jimmy has to want it too and perhaps he feels he's ready for a new challenge.

The Man Mountain that is Michael Frey

The first goal looks like something the team has been working on on the training ground so I doubt Morgan was just hoping for the best. Kieran does look up and survey his options before crossing so the pass was deliberate. However, I'd wager he was aiming towards the arriving cavalry rather than specifically picking out Frey. Either way, who cares? A good team goal and I'll settle for many more of the same please.

Yeah, I think "held their own" is an apt description of our midfield and, indeed, season to date. Whilst I'm pleased with recent improvements, to go to the next level I still think we need more midfielders who can dictate proceedings in the middle of the park.

On a side note, it was pleasing to see Colback back in action, albeit in injury time. Hopefully he can get up to speed quickly and start contributing. We're going to need Jack especially if Field continues to pick up yellow cards at his current rate.

His fitness, determination, courage, pace and work ethic could never be questioned. He's added an end product to his game which is pleasing to see. His crossing in particular has improved markedly. If he can now improve his finishing, he'll be quite the player.

I've been saying for eons that the midfield is the key weak point of the team. It was non existent earlier in the season. It's improved markedly since and the emergence of Morgan has been pivotal to that. I'm still not quite as enamoured with Varane as some. Whilst he has improved (albeit from a very poor start), his strengths are limited to defensive skills. Technical improvements needed with touch, close control, forward passing and, in particular, shooting if he's to become a big player going forward.

Yes, that is a strange coincidence. Both teams currently have an identical record of:

Played 25, Won 6, Drawn 11, Lost 8, Goals For 27, Goals Against 33, GD -6, Points 29

How very Championship.

To be fair I think what he's trying to say is that the club need to move away from the strategy of signing players with known fitness issues because availability is the best ability. JCS, Morrison and Fox are all injury prone. Dunne is largely being deployed at RB because we didn't sign a seasoned RB in the summer. All of the above meant that Marti was forced to overplay Cook who subsequently suffered an injury consistent with overload.

That all being said, I agree that the scale of the injuries sustained across the back line has been exceptional and unprecedented. Even taking into account the risk of signing players with fitness concerns, the law of averages suggests that you should be able to consistently field 2 bona-fide central defenders from that list. Unfortunately, the facts say otherwise and the club has been forced to dip into the loan market to recruit defensive cover.

Whilst it's only right to raise concerns about previous recruitment strategy, credit must be given to the club for acting swiftly in this window and recruiting what appears on paper at least to be a capable defender. However, lessons need to be learned for future transfer dealings.

So good you said it twice!

Smyth shades it for me today but hard to argue against Dunne who has been a bedrock of the revival.

Foxy whilst not a Rolls-Royce of a defender, is a reasonably steady Championship campaigner once he's up-to-speed. More of a diesel engine these days in that he takes a while to warm up.
