Can’t disagree with any of that. Even when we were marginally on top early in the first half, it was all very laboured.

And no chances to show for it.

Pitch seems to have suddenly deteriorated in the three weeks since we last played on it.

No excuses though, Wednesday were clearly the better team.

Before the subs, I didn’t think they looked dangerous apart from set pieces. However, they were the subs I would have made too. Although looking back on it, Field did look the most tired of the 3 midfielders. I also think while he gets criticised for forward passing, Varane is huge loss defensively when he’s not there.

I don’t have the best view of it perhaps but was thinking after seeing that Hull monstrosity that it looked quite good.

Lovely photo of the W12 skyscape.

There's tired and tired, I think. My reading is we were more mentally/imaginatively tired than anything and just got outplayed in that second half by one or two better players. First half, for me, our energy levels were good, and it was a balanced and very watchable game, shaded by us. On another day, it could have gone the other way.

As Paul Daniels didn't say, 'that's football'!

Strange game. We bossed it for 20-25 minutes. But, over the 90, we didn't create enough chances. Second half was very bitty, with far too many stoppages. For cynical fouls? And we ran out of energy.

Wednesday deserved the win, although the 2nd flattered them a little.
For us, it's hard to think of anybody who played really well, but hard to think of anybody really poor.

Suck it up and move on.

Back in the days of being a kid I recall us beating Wednesday 2-1 in that terrible 68-69 season when we only won 4 games. Then there was the League Cup in 1973 after knocking out Spurs, we thrashed the Owls 8-2 before we inexplicably lost 3-0 at home to lowly Plymouth in the next round. We do love to fall flat on our faces the more our hopes rise.

Millwall will be interesting to see how we recover from this defeat. At home they beat the Owls 3-0, Burnley and Leeds 1-0 so it will be a test of our attacking prowess as better teams than us have tripped up visiting them.

Here's a bit of grainy footage from that Pilgrims exit. Their goals look absolutely mingin' from our point of view, especially as this was from an era of pre-rotation/throwing Cup games.

Was anyone there who can explain it?

I have been the one typing in favour of ex players having retired early injured going straight into the referee training but might have to re think that now.
Bannon quite simply hacked down a QPR player in the first half with a pretty aggressive tackle/kill shot right under the nose of the ref and was not booked so they knew its was open season on us after that.
Even at the end of a pretty testy game when Dunne was very angry the ref was nowhere to be seen to calm things down but luckily some Wednesday players were peacemakers if memory serves me correctly .
We deserved at least a point I felt but SW are big tough fcukers and just know how to bully you

Can’t disagree with much of that , if any . Spot on overview of a disappointing afternoon.
Chatting to my dad afterwards we said that they were very well drilled and organised and had done their homework on us. Even more impressive with no Training ground .
As I said in the match thread , Varane being subbed left a gaping hole that Bannon saw immediately and he made merry . Little Kunt.
Still , Smyth tried to out run him and failed so fair play to him.

As long as we don’t collapse now it’s not the end of the world .
We dealt with defeats at Swansea and Leicester pretty well so I think we should be ok

When Rohl is getting a tune out of the likes of Paterson who has the look of a Sunday leauge player you know you’re in trouble.
We looked comfortable up until the last ten minutes of the first half and then it dawned on me that a point would have been decent outcome.
We looked knackered , second half.

Thanks Clive - Not much else to add they were organised (looked fitter than us) and come and done a classic away job on us. I agree out of the midfield area Varane was the last one we should of taken off. He looked okay while Morgan and Field looked leggy. It also opened up that area of the pitch for Sheff Wed.

Never mind we take it on the chin and we now have a full week to recover and prepare for next weekends London Derby.

Really strong points about the two late substitutions at Hull giving Marti no confidence to repeat the changes. Definitely feels like Wed are our bogey side - and as I said to my son after the game, hopefully this keeps Rohl above Marti in the low hanging fruit market when managerless teams come looking.
As Eric says in that annoying advert - 'nice one Barry, you can get the bill....'
On to south london...

I said to my lad first half that if that chunky grey haired bloke who looked like a middle aged Sunday league player scored, we're leaving. He did, and we did.

was similar to a lot of recent games like Hull away where we were on top but not creating much and first goal was going to be key, Sheffield Wednesday just got it and then did to us what we've done in the last few games and saw the game out.

Just as I saw it, Sheffield Wednesday were well set up and did a number on us. I thought we did look tired especially first 10 mins of the 2nd half and you could see that Wednesday had stepped it up a bit. Gaining 6 points from the last 3 games from two difficult away trips is a great return. For me it is how we respond at Millwall as since our renaissance in November when we lost at Swansea and Leicester we have tended to bounce back in the next game.

Fair and honest report, nothing much to add. I would say I was surprised by the lack of changes before the game, but it is highlighting how thin the squad really is.
The midfield is paper thin. MC looks like he has lost all faith in Madsen now.
I wonder if Alfie Tuck might start to be on the bench now he is back from Enfield. He looked tidy in preseason, but he is slight, so not sure he could physically cope.

Still kind of amazed how EDB is totally out of favour.

Dozzell mkII. Offers nothing. No idea why they gave him a new contract.

Unfair - I think he's far more effective than Dozzell. Reckon he's done a decent job whenever he's played.

Clearly the manager disagrees and he's the one paid to pick the team. Hey ho.
