Unless Jim and the players are able to find a way we are in for another potential bore fest. Tamworth have no obligation to entertain and following a few early season thrashings tend to set up to frustrate, a method that has brought them some success recently and which inevitably works against our slow possesion based style. To avoid the usual depressing sonario against this type of team surely Jim sees the need to start the game hard and fast and keep going forward even if we are fortunate to score early. For once I would like to see the oppostion defenders have a torrid time instead of sitting back comfortably while we pass nonchalontly around the edge of the area. I would love to be pleasantly surprised but I suppose in all honesty I am steeled for more frustration.

Got the job done in the end, which makes our last 8 league games:

LWLWLWLW

Given that sequence, i'd probably settle for a draw against Boston...

So glad I was able to watch Dagenham but not this, ffs.

Can anyone summarise the red card? Sounds like your average National League refereeing tbf.

I was there but didn’t see what happened. I believe that Barlow elbowed one of their players in the face and the ref sent the wrong player off? But not 100% sure.

Comprehensive win in the end but have to wonder how the game would have gone without the sending off. Despite plenty of misgivings, we did at least shoot more and that alone has led to one goal and a lesson learnt.

God knows what XI we will see on Saturday, and what change that will mean, but we had to get results in these two home games and it’s half a job done.

As far as I could gather their player kicked out at ours and he then went and pushed their player over. Ref spoke to his assistant for a while so, were it a mistake, there are two to blame. I thought our player should have had a yellow though.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Looked like the lino who made the decision - their 18 definitely grabbed/manhandled Barlow but couldn't see a red from that.

The fourth official was involved as well.

The Tamworth Twitter is saying they were told the red card was for a stamp by their player.

Some video evidence should clear it up.

Three to blame as I’m sure that the fourth official was consulted as well and was actually on the pitch at one stage. The ref was also listening quite intently to his earpiece as well.
It was getting pretty hectic in the couple of minutes prior to that with some hefty challenges going in.

The ref got the incident and the card decisions correct. He consulted the linesman and 4th official, and quite properly took his time. The Tamworth player stamped out at Barlow after a bit of a kerfuffle between the two. The red card was for violent conduct and Barlow was correctly booked for roughing the player who was dismissed.

The lad who was sent off was at great pains to explain to McNulty what has happened as he was leaving the field and even he demonstrated a lunging/stamping action, so even it was misinterpreted by the officials, it was an invite to them to deal with it. Give them a reason and they will act upon it.

The result was deserved whether they had 10 or 11 men. The only thing they offered was a crash against the bar from an excellent free kick, otherwise - nothing.

The benefits of shooting at goal ably demonstrated by Kyron Gordon. Okeke was MoM for me. pacy, direct and effective. Knows how to cross a ball into dangerous areas.

Three welcome points and another home match on Saturday. Sleep well.

Strange game. We were pleasingly on the front foot looking to go forward at almost every opportunity. Unusual, but good to see. Maybe a lacklustre Tamworth side allowed that to happen. Still, no end product. Many more chances created and attempted than during the Dagenham debacle, but no goal scored.
Throughout, and it got much worse, bizarre refereeing decisions were spoiling the game. We'll have to wait and see footage of the yellow / red card decision in the second half. Then the ref got even worse.
Great to see us playing so positively and, eventually, deservedly scoring goals and gaining points, which is what the game is all about. Well done Jim and the players.

Same view

A bit more attack minded than v Daggers and started brightly. Credit to Tamworth they didn’t sit and defend and got better as the first half wore on.

Second half started with us doing all of the pressing and sense that we were finally going to break through. Whether that would have happened without the sending off is for the trousers of time to know, sending off was the pivotal moment.

East was pulling strings all game and Okeke good going forward. Need to get Kairo back in the goals since his injury like we did at the start of the season, once he starts, he doesn’t stop. Maybe Sat for that.

Strange game indeed, from a strange team! A few stats have emerged over the past week that illuminate where we are as a team.

Defensively we can be very pleased. Only FGR have conceded less than us, and we have the best xGA in the league (for those that way inclined). No small feat when we’ve had a number of different keepers play, and our senior defender injured for months. I do think in Sam Beckwith and Kyron Gordon we have two of the best defenders outside the Football League. More than that though, we seem to defend as a team - easily done when you’re a possession-heavy team as we are.

Offensively though, so, so poor. We seem to dominate games but then look absolutely clueless when it comes to the final third. The fact we’re 4th in the league for touches in the opposition box yet TWENTY-FIRST (21st) for shots speaks volumes.

I found myself thinking last night that there’s more than a touch of the BBMs about us; more focus on possession than entertainment; lots of defensive passing to bulk up those possession stats. In BBM’s squad though, we had the likes of Humphrys, Baah and Beesley in good form up top, with goals coming from further back from Lund and Keohane. Apart from Mitchell’s purple run earlier in the season, where are the bulk of our goals coming from?

Ultimately while we’re very impressive defensively, I think we’re far too shot shy and inconsistent to achieve anything this season (though a top-7 finish is still on the cards).

I think we all knew that by instinct, but that table brings it alive. Can Jim find a raw talent in non league somewhere that wants a chance to prove himself up top. Or do we have a good scholar that we can use for the last 20 minutes to have a go. No fear and all that. Bigger teams than Dale have been doing that a lot recently.

An excellent post, and illustrates much of why I get frustrated. A very welcome 3 points last night, but would we have won had they not had a player sent off? Although we were on the offensive I didn't feel like a goal was inevitable.

East was superb last night, although he aside, our other midfield players seem too willing to play a slow or sideways pass that reaches players with their backs to goal. It's then much harder to generate the necessary pace to beat a defender.

Defensively, we do look better than recent seasons, and much of this is down to us preventing crosses coming into our area. We are also much better at blocking shots than in recent years with several players willing to put themselves in the firing line.

On to Saturday now, and hoping for a real barnstorming attacking display that results in us ending a remarkable WLWL sequence in the league.

Cant really see much of the red card incident but Barlow certainly didn't act like he'd been punched, elbowed, stamped or hit. There was only Tamworth's number 4 holding his head trying to con the officials to get Barlow sent off. Not quite sure what the linesman or 4th official saw - neither of them was close to the incident. You'd be very upset getting a red for that - total over reaction.

Well done to BJ and the players. Not overly spectacular but job done

Some real positives including Okeke's performance; willingness to shoot; playing through the lines more often and two goals from midfield.

The weak attacking tag will change when Kairo hits form and when he and Dev form a more dangerous partnership.

Same again on Saturday as the challenges from a hard working disciplined team will be similar to last night.
