Being told by a good contact down in Southampton that this could be it, the only thing stopping his sacking is the millions in compo that they will have to shell out.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Wasn't it a league cup game that Cabango covered the left and Williams covered to right and both struggled badly was in against Brighton?

Just checked Brandon Cooper also played as the middle centre back of the three.
Edit
For info Martin's first season.

not at Fulham away

Ok, we've had this conversation before but I'll say it again, Williams didn't play against Fulham, he wasn't in the matchday squad.
Williams made his debut in the league on the left of a 3, played in the same position against Luton, West Brom & Reading. No idea on the cup game against Brighton, I didn't see that one, but in the league he played on his favoured side (fairly badly) & not out of position.
I remember Fulham very well because I went to the game unfortunately.

12 million compo, I would pick the youth team tomorrow and take the bucks.

Graham Potter at Chelsea springs to mind , a 7 year contract signed and agreed .

He is booted out after six months and lives on that ridiculous promise of payment .
Can pick and choose where he goes next , Chelsea are still paying my wages meanwhile .

Footballers want the best deal they can get , so why not Managers too .

Your last line, I entirely agree. My problem isn't that people look for a great deal, my problem is that so many clubs are willing to give out such ridiculous, hyperinflated pay packages.

A clubs income should determine the pay on offer, not an agents demand and all first teamers should be on the same pay but with individual bonuses for clean sheets goals, MOM awards etc and then an overall bonus for how well the club does that season.

Sky money has caused a massive inflation in wages that sees even average players earning 60-80k per week and it's killing football. A moderately good Championship player now expects 15-25k Any better than modertaley good and the EPL grabs them and pays them silly money, 30-60k to start and all you need these days is one very good season, you can be utter gash after that but still get the paydays.

Look at Martin, one succesful season, really speaking, average at MK and us (at best) and now look, Saints are dropping like a stone but Martin is landed. 12 millin compo for being a dismal failure in the EPL and as Keith says, it's the way with managers.

In most jobs there'd be a process (and we know Martin likes his process) where you'd face meetings, a capability assesment and if you aren't good enough, a notice period the length of which is in your contract.
The players though, they sign a 3-5 year deal and they can be rubbish from day one and still get paid their 60-300k per week for the length of their deal and nothing can be done.

No wonder football is going down the shitter.

Chelsea could have been 4 up even before the red card.
Southampton were lucky it wasn't 7 or 8 Chelsea had their chances.
Amazing after what 5 seasons as a manager he still can't organise a defence......amazing given he was a defender as a player.

Bu

To be fair , Pep has managed for about 18yrs now and has no idea how to organise a defence (as we've seen this season). However, Martin Russell doesn't have the players to bail him out and as OHG said, Manning and Wood in the Prem ain't gonna keep a team up.

The planet where people doing the same job, that is in being first team players, get the same rate of pay.

Why should one player get 60k per week but another 300k? Why are goalkeepers always cheaper than strikers? Whose job is it to keep those expensive strikers out? Why should a striker get more than the players that supply him?

I would say strikers earn more because they can win games for you. At two extra points for a win, how many more points would we have if we had invested in a quality striker.

What, and the rest of the team have nothing to do with winning games? Seems a strange notion to me, why then do we bother with keepers and defenders?

On the other hand then, is Vipotnik on more than other players because if so it really is criminal, given his lack of goals.

No one player in a team can do what they do without the team around them, with very few exceptions. There is no I in team.

Edited to add, if they are not worth the same money then why do we expect other players to weigh in with a few goals? And when we keep a clean sheet, has that helped win a game?

People can discuss it until the cows come home but over a season strikers win you matches.

lets not have a goalkeeper in then and see what happens.

Lets put 6 strikers out there but not have a defence and see what happens.

It's a team game and they all rely on each other.

Using your reasoning and logic, a porter and nurse would be in the same salary as the surgeon in an operating theatre.

His way of playing is laughable though you work with what you have.
Watched them against Chelsea midweek they gave away 2 goals and still carried on doing the same..

This despite howls of protest from the home support.

This suicidal tactic got him his move to Southampton and will get him the sack as well.

I wonder if Russell will end up back at the Swans in the next 5-8 years....?
Maybe with Jason and Kaplan gone - there maybe an opportunity for a reunion somewhere in the future?

Yes, but we are talking about a proven failure here! Certainly at our level.

Ironically, he’d be better suited to a world class side than a mediocre one.

I am not for one moment saying I want him back but I wonder if he feels he has a point to prove especially around his departure.
