And yet he oversees recruitment as we been led to believe with Belk.
He not only is the CEO but has overseeing the DoF role, which previously was in the hands of a football man in Les.
The data is all well and good, but there are many elements to professional football and data only gets you so far.
Football nous is still a thing, clearly.
Reading between the lines, I am concerned that Cifuentes is not having a massive say on incoming and outgoing footballing staff. He is the guy with the knowledge and has impressed us with what he achieved last season here.
But Nourry saying we need stability of structure and then saying himself and Belk are the best to achieve this ongoing as coaches come and go. This to me is alarming.
I believe we have the right coach for the style we eventually want to achieve so why are Belk and Nourry seen as the long term stable going forward so we remain consistent in our style.
Seriously hope Cifuentes has a much greater role in player recruitment and retention than is currently seen.
Willock and Armstrong reluctant to sign new contracts and now it seems possibly reason Kolli not being picked as he upset the applecart by not signing a contract offered. And Dykes let go at last minute too with no replacement. Slightly concerning if these are all indeed what happened.
Especially if Cifuentes role is limited in this area. He is the one with the football brain not Nourry or Belk.
The recruitment this close season has definitely been very speculative ie who has had championship experience. It's a tough league and nothing like numerous European leagues. Much more combative and signings although skilful all look a little weak in terms of strength. But we can't blame the incoming players. These are their previous experiences. They have not experienced the championship.
But if it goes wrong and we in bottom three in January, it's Cifuentes that goes, not Belk or Nourry.
But we are meant to be happy because Belk and Nourry will be continuing with recruitment measured as to how we want to play.
Nourry has a lot of power. He is 26 and yes I know some people can be outstanding at an early age, we are not a normal corporate business , we are a football club.
Our director of football, much maligned was Les, but you can't say he did not have footballing experience to back up his judgements.
A lot of everyday jobs that we all do, are now recruited by AI. You show that you have a number of certificates and you get appointed above people with relevant experience these days.
It's beginning to look a bit like Richard Thompson - esque.....
On the face of it to me, this model does not look sustainable as we are relying on the main men who let's face it, probably didn't get picked in the first team when they were eleven years old at school, which in Nourrys case is not that long ago.
The fact that the first fans forum was almost entirely fielded by Nourry to me is a red flag.
I do hope to be proved wrong and actually now I am perhaps moving towards Clives way of thinking with the fact contracts of players not released.
Is it yet another way of control from the board room.
Am all for giving youth opportunities but we seem to have signed a massive amount of our football club to some young guy who has written all his new player write ups with the help of AI. Ie Nourry speak. That was obvious.
If it was my decision for the style of football to be retained, I would get rid of Nourry before Cifuentes if we were failing.
The announcement of Dembele's deal, Marti and Xavi's deals extended and JCS all seemed a smokescreen covering up things a little so the guy didn't get a bum deal at the fans forum.
Ie all could be let go anyhow if things turned.
The loss of Ben Williams the fitness guru whether it's related or not suddenly we picking up injuries in training again and to key players.
I watched the forum online and his answers to me were answers from people I have worked with in business, who say a lot but if you totally assess what they are saying basically they are speaking a lot of corporate speak because they want to impress but basically it's all total waffle so it doesn't show that they don't really know the subject they are talking about.
I hope I am wrong.
The style is led by Nourry and Belk long term.
Surely in game management which Cifuentes did last year, it's not being done this. I mean with being more adaptive in style . It's a question which I doubt this is not being allowed but again, slightly concerning if you read between the lines... it could be the case.
These are just my own thoughts obviously with zero knowledge of whether this is all true but it is how it seems to me.
Joking aside, I'm amazed (though shouldn't be) at the number of new threads created by anyone, usually when things are a bit wobbly, that could easily be asked on an existing thread.

Are you on commission for per-posts-created??!

I don't know, I find it a welcome change to hear someone speaking in a different fashion to the usual football jargon. When I think of all the years I spent looking for the Boydon Well.
not the worst idea to have a consistent approach to strategy by someone who isn't the manager, that way you avoid the squad overhaul every time we get a new manager (which is quite often)
Whether he's the right man for the job time will tell.

I second the sentiments of the Juzster, as we've spent a lot of time debating all of this on various threads pretty much from day 1 of Nourry's official unveiling.
Whichever way you want to view it, I think its fair to say that we've all been crying out for someone to take the helm at HQ who has a clear long-term strategy for the health and well-being of our somewhat ramshackle little outfit, and a clear vision for how this should be achieved.
Part of that remit is being prepared to deal with the naysayers whenever bumps in the road appear, and so far I would say that Nourry's fronted up pretty well.
Much like investing in the stock market, we need to not be throwing our collective toys out of the pram when these blips appear, and in Marti Cifuentes we at least know we have a coach with relative long-term security, who's also not likely to get blindsided by short-term hiccoughs.
In true British stiff upper lip tradition, I believe the most suitable phrase for the current state of the nation at (MATRADE) LR is ; "Keep calm and carry on".

Something we've been talking about needing for a long time.
In fact, a lot of what he says is the sort of thing we've talked about for a long time. Recruiting players for the medium and long term rather than short term sticking plasters. Having a set ethos that runs through the club, so we're appointing managers of the same style and it's not a disaster when they leave, also makes it easier for academy players to step into the firsts (big bugbear of Warburton's that Ramsey and co wouldn't play the same way as he did). Develop to sell, work harder on Loftus Road and building our support, getting rid of a few sacred cows at the top of the academy - all good.
My concern is he's under qualified and under experienced for the role. I can't think of many clubs at our level that would take their CEO and DOF position, smash it into one, and give it to the 27 year old recruitment consultant they were using at the time.
He's got great chat. As said above, a lot of the things he says make real sense. But we've been taken in by great chat many times before. The owners are benevolent, desperate for success, and clueless. It makes them very susceptible to people from within the industry who can talk with great conviction/powerpoint presentations about how they can sort it all out. It's how we ended up with Hughes/Rigg/Joorbchian running riot, it's how we ended up with Redknapp, McClaren and Beale, it's how Les Ferdinand got the job here - never been a DOF before but spoke with conviction and they knew the name would play well.
And as I've discussed a million times before, Nourry's coms strategy is piss poor. And if things continue to slide on the pitch it's really going to bite him sooner than even I thought because if these signings turn out to be duds then people are going to want to know in far more detail who recruited them, how, why and how long they're contracted for - because if they're crap and they're on four year deals then we're shafted long into the future now. Turning round and saying I'm not telling you because 'competitive advantage' is going to result in some agg.
Positive is... we're very early into something that was always going to take a while, and the bar for success here is now ridiculously low. If we finish 10th/11th/12th this year that will be hailed as significant progress (Bristol City, Cardiff, Preston finished there last year). If 5 of the signings turn out to be complete crap it won't matter if four others are decent Championship players and one goes for big money. Madsen, Celar, Santos, Bennie and Ashby can all be complete duds as long as Nardi, Morrison, Saito and Varane are ok and Dembele goes for money. So you can finish 12th in the league and half your signings can be complete sht and that will still be significant progress here. That's a ridiculously low bar that should still be cleared this season.

Something to keep an eye on but Nourry's old business partner could well be going in at Everton. Hopefully not about to throw us any of their old tat, dreadful squad.

“It is understood that Retexo owner – a leading analytics and advisory firm in global football – Charles Gould will aid the restructuring on Merseyside, having advised the group before.”
Does anyone do their homework these days or is the football industry really just that gullible?
Everton are an absolute basket case like ourselves over the years, so I guess the cap fits.

Im not sure how we're painting ourselves into a corner again. I'm reading this as Nourry has pissed off a few people involved at the club, Clive included and he's now taking a bit of the brunt for a poor start of the season. This season is all about MC getting started, after somehow keeping us up last season. He's a good young manager with good intentions. I also think Nourry is trying a different approach to what has happened before. Lets let them try and do their jobs and judge them at the end of the season. While we have the owners we do , any change to our approach is good imo.

I won't have a word said about him. Anyone who uses the word “comport” in everyday usage is ticketty-boo with me. I haven't heard comport since I saw a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta at school in 1959.
