A stern test on Saturday against Paul Simpsons side that finished 5th last year in league 2. It'll be good to get a firstlook of how we've progressed in training so far . I'M hoping we play with a bit of confidence and look like an upgrade of last season.

That was an enjoyable watch! A long lost feeling at home.
This was my first pre-season game, so didn’t see what was served up against Warrington or Macc, but vs Carlisle there was definitely more attacking intent. We mixed up the passing too, but every player seemed to look forward in the first instance.
Three at the back may have been forced upon us, but I really like how it allows us to play wingbacks. Beckwith was a standout for me, he’s a big lad who uses his physicality and is comfortable on the ball. I’m not sure if Tarryn usually plays further forward but he also looked very comfortable at wing back along with Tobi (yes, I’m saving myself typing!) on the right side.
Midfield was a pleasant surprise with Gilmour and Henry looking good together. We know what Gilmour brings (and he does it well) but Henry looked to pass the ball forwards and quickly. McBride played more central than I expected but looked good behind a Mitchell. Again, he’s a decent size so isn’t bullied off the ball. Rodney played just off Mitchell but looked threatening. Mitchell doesn’t win many headers but you can’t argue that he gets chances. We looked good going forward because we moved the ball quicker.
Very well worked goal for Gilmour to get into the box and pull back for a Mitchell tap in. The second was a cracking free kick from Henry. It feels good to have a set piece specialist in the ranks, it feels like a long time since we’ve threatened from free kicks in the edge of the box.
The new signings looked good to me, which bodes well. They are more attacking in mindset than what we saw last season. The trialists didn’t have much time to impress. Trialist B (who came on first) played on the right wing and managed to get into the box with a shot on target from a tight angle. Trialist A seemed to be on for seconds.
It’s only pre-season, winning games mean just as much as losing games I.e. nothing, but I was really encouraged by what I saw formation and attacking wise.

By avoiding typing his full name, you probably typed out more than you would have otherwise.

The Mac game on Tuesday was my first, and I was genuinely concerned after that game for the season as we were outplayed for 70 minutes by a team 2 divisions below. Yet 4 days later we turned in a really good performance against Carlisle. Much sharper, faster to the ball and unlike Tuesday we got a result we deserved. Would still say we are lacking a wide player with pace to burn but there looks to be some depth to the squad especially in midfield. I would also say we have a lot of quite small players, which could be an issue against some of the agricultural style teams, but overall pleased with what I saw yesterday. A lot more direct than Tuesday at times although we almost played them in with the passing on a couple of occasions. Trialist B looked quite good in his cameo, Trialist A got about 2 minutes so didn't seem much point to be honest. Not sure who either one was. Hopefully we can finish with a decent 2 games before the season starts. I assume we will want to start with what is close to our strongest team in the Salford game, but it will be interesting to see if some of the trialists get more time against Avro, (or if we try a few new combinations/Tactics).

Trialist A played almost the full game at Macc.
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
