VAR and the so called big clubs 08:51 - Aug 15 with 6849 views | DWQPR | Despite all its obvious flaws I thought that VAR was there to try and make things fair and also for me take away the perceived and not without good evidence the bias refereeing towards the bigger clubs. Once again last night, in the last minute of injury time a major decision made by the on field ref which was then backed up by the VAR ref was so obviously wrong that it was totally embarrassing.

VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:03 - Aug 15 with 5899 views | StanFan | I've not yet seen this one but it doesn't surprise me - we've seen it so many times before. What use is yet another apology from PGMOL?
VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:09 - Aug 15 with 5873 views | Northernr | You've got Michael Salisbury operating the machine and Jon Moss wheeled out to defend it. I'm just surprised nobody was killed.
VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:28 - Aug 15 with 5804 views | Rs_Holy | I remember many, many years ago when I was a young man watching QPR getting a terrible decisions against the 'big boys'...At Liverpool (Les Ferdinand getting a second yellow for time wasting at Anfield when QPR were losing)... against ManUre, Eric Cantona scoring in the 8th minute of Fergie time at Loftus Road (back when games never had 8 minutes on injury time), Shaun Derry getting sent off/giving away a penalty at Old Trafford, in the first couple of minutes for farting near Ashley Young... This is how it has always been and always will be for the bigger clubs.... VAR, retrospective reviews, witch hunts on tv .... wont make a jot of difference. [Post edited 15 Aug 2023 9:56]

VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:43 - Aug 15 with 5766 views | Hunterhoop | I’d like to hear the reasoning of why it wasn’t a foul. I look forward to anyone going up for a header now being fair game to be smashed late by an opposition player and play being waved on as there was no clear and obvious foul. You can even use your arms apparently. Just rugby tackle him in the air. It was so obviously a penalty I cannot think of why Salisbury didn’t tell the ref to look at it. What did he see? Also interested to see where Salisbury pitches up next. A few weeks off and then…?

He'll get a Championship game next week. When he torched Spurs v Brighton they gave him us v Coventry a week later. I'm not actually convinced he knows how to turn the VAR monitor on, and he's too embarrassed to tell anybody.

It was the serial cheat Ashley Young but other than that I agree with everything you’ve said.
VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:50 - Aug 15 with 5726 views | Watford_Ranger | Really bizarre you wouldn’t advise the ref to take a look. Hard to conclude it would have been the same decision the other way. Goalkeepers have always been over-protected (see also the goal not given for Everton) but in this era of being more conscious of concussions you’re effectively saying goalies can still punch someone in the head, clatter into them nowhere near the ball etc. Oh well Jon Moss has apologised. That will cheer up the people travelling 200 miles on a Monday night. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:51 - Aug 15 with 5719 views | HAYESBOY | Again, its not a VAR problem. Its not the technology, its human error or incompetence. What should happen now is that the person on VAR last night gets a two game ban and has to be taken on a course of why that was a stone wall pen and why it should of been at least referred back to the on pitch ref..

VAR and the so called big clubs on 09:55 - Aug 15 with 5699 views | ted_hendrix | Gary O'Neil speaking after Wolves lost at Manchester United on Monday: On the non-award of a penalty in stoppage time: "Having just spoken to [elite referees' manager] Jon Moss, fair enough he came straight out and said it was a blatant penalty and it should have been given. "I sometimes feel bad. I've spent a lot of my day with him trying to understand the new guidelines and how to not get myself booked, which I've failed in, but fair play to Jon in coming out. "He said it was clear and obvious and he can't believe the on-field referee didn't give it and he can't believe VAR didn't intervene. It's probably made me feel worse to be honest because once you know you're right you feel worse about leaving with nothing."

Sorry Ted I've just had a roll around on the floor at "elite" and "Jon Moss" featuring in the same sentence there. The only thing he's elite at is sneaking extra trips to the salad bar at The Harvester.

The interesting thing here, that football hasn’t had to face up to yet, is corruption. What measures are in place to ensure the VAR official hasn’t take a bung to influence the result? We’ve long since accepted that on field refs don’t and it would be harder to get away with it. But in the VAR studio, you’re not in the action, you don’t have to face consequences and yet to you can have a big impact on the result and a number of betting markets. I don’t know much about it, but for those that do, what sort of measures do the PMGOL and Premier League (and EFL) to prevent corruption of referees?
VAR and the so called big clubs on 10:11 - Aug 15 with 5631 views | TheChef | It's a penalty incident for the away team in injury time at Old Trafford, in a game where ManU are clinging on for a win. What did anyone think was going to happen?

VAR and the so called big clubs on 13:10 - Aug 15 with 5336 views | paulparker | I Honestly believe football in this country is corrupt , these refs cannot be poor week in week out it’s not coincidence that the two Manchester clubs get away with murders on VAR , the premier league dare not have them in the top six If United were 1-0 down and the wolves keeper did that the ref would have give it all day long
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Too true unfortunately. Ref would give a pen straight away, probably wouldn't even bother with VAR.

"Dropped"? They should be sacked, absolutely and instantly sacked or fired out of a circus cannon in the general direction of Uzbekistan.

VAR and the so called big clubs on 16:34 - Aug 15 with 5088 views | numptydumpty | Nailed on Pen Embarrassingly bad decision Should retrospectively award Wolves a goal. Appreciate it was only a very good chance to score but that decision should be called out. Man Utd - first home game of the season - hanging on - injury time. Its actually cheating and we need to be aware every time this happens and the reasoning of the decision makers and it being held to account because for me the only logical conclusion to such a blatantly obvious incorrect decision despite the advantages of the VAR to make a more comprehensive assessment is corruption. VAR and the so called big clubs on 18:26 - Aug 15 with 4924 views | easthertsr | It's the same all over Europe, Celtic, PSG, Bayern, Real and all the rest always seem to get the tight decisions their way. It's funny that isn't it? It's almost like the authorities wanted the BIG teams to win! The only thing that's funny is when they play each other in the Champions League and they can't understand why the close call has gone against them!

VAR and the so called big clubs on 19:21 - Aug 15 with 4827 views | OakR | I'd quite like to see something like they have in American football or tennis, where coaches can have 2 or 3 challenges per half, but only for serious decisions. So in football I guess it would penalties, red cards and maybe some.otger things I'd not thought about. This would mean VAR would avoid 'missing stuff' like the 2 pens in the Playoff final last year and other stuff mentioned above, coaches can't complain if they don't challenge etc. Doesn't stop things being reviewed anyway without a challenge. I can understand infield refs missing things, but there is no excuse for some obvious VAR non reviews and some of those really should be looked into more.
