Dunne/Dickie have a runner and Hamer(?) running at them with the ball. Balogun is nearer Gyokeres and instead of staying on him he runs towards Hamer leaving Gyokeres completely open and available for a pass.
Agree. I think Balogun is probably our best defender but while he's not solely to blame for this - tbh I think the keeper should do better - he did make that an easy pass for Hamer. A better bit of defending would have been not to commit, try and make the pass a hard option and possibly force him to shoot or dive in if Hamer gives you enough sight of the ball. As it was he made that an easy pass for one of the best strikers at this level.

You can look at it that way but if I was in that position I think I would have attacked the ball.....neither Dunne nor Dickie showed any interest in attacking the ball/player so Balogun made the move....Dunne & Dickie only had one player to mark as well.
What is without question.......Paal was way out of position for some reason - if he was at LB then hopefully we would have dealt with the situation very easily.
Definitely wouldn't have attacked the ball... Balogun nearly get's a foot in at the end, if he'd attacked the ball you'd have two players clear on goal. He 100% did the right thing tracking back. The real issue started further up the field.

Gyokeres is the best striker in this division. His all-round game is above anyone else in this league. Speed, strength, durable as he has played every league game, great first touch, link-up play, works across the entire defence, creates his own goals, creates for others and scores regularly. I went to the away game in November, and I'd say that he was even more impressive in that game.
Well done to Mark Robins and his coaching staff because he was made in Coventry. His development into the monster he has become in less than two years is astonishing. Hope they get top dollar for him in the summer.

Whilst I agree that first instinct is to run at the guy with the ball, Balogun should be above that as he is a professional and should have a far better understanding of what is needed in every defensive situation.
The NE Patriots have a big thing about "do your job", not try and do everyone else's. He needs to leave the runner and ball player to Dickie and Dunne and cover off his man. If Hamer scores a worldie or Dunne/Dickie allow the runner to get the ball then it is on them. In vacating his man he has gifted a goal whereas if he covers his man it makes it far more difficult to score.
