Next to no bunting in my neck of the woods, the village I live just outside only had one house with posters in the window and no other houses that I saw had any bunting/decorations, no street parties, nothing, the recent council elections Plaid got 84% of the vote, I'm not saying Plaid voters are all republican's but when the area votes 84% Plaid it gives you some idea that lots of locals probably don't support the Queen of England as regards would they support Queen of the Britons is another question, eg the indigenous kings were king of the Britons when the forefathers of the Welsh owned basically the whole of Britain when the Germanic tribes came over here they did not have that title obviously but king/queen of England which is a different thing to king/queen of the Britons. |  |

The Irish famine was caused by a rapid population explosion relying on a single non native crop which succumed to a disease for which science in the mid 1800s could not prevent or cure.
Famines and crop failures were common worldwide back then.

It was not a famine, it was a blight on the potato crop.
A famine is when there's no food. There was plenty of food in Ireland. It was being produced on land owned (stolen) by British people in Ireland. They wanted to maintain their profits so while a million Irish people died of starvation they carried on exporting their produce.
