We also beat Pompey 5-0 in the promotion season of 72-73, during a period of that season when you felt disappointed that Rangers didn't at least score four. We had a young emerging side at that time littered with home grown talent and cheap purchases from other clubs like Walsall. Also there was a few old heads in that side as well. Great times for a six year old even though every time we scored it meant me falling off the perimeter wall in the paddock and having to scramble up again once the celebrations finished! | |

seeing as I grew up quite near Pompey, I went to the away leg of that League Cup game.
It was a 2-2 draw. I was 10 years old so I can't remember anything else about the match apart from Waddock getting sent off and me not understanding why so my dad explained to me what dissent means. |  | | |
