Sunderland game travel 13:59 - Aug 26 with 4985 viewspnc4eva1

At yesterday's game several of us were chatting about how we would travel to the game.

As an exile I thought about the train. It takes over four hours there and four back. Also it'd cost me £166+.

Therefore a long drive will probably be on the cards.

Same here. The wife's family live in North Tyneside, so this is perfect for us. She can drop me off on the way up to spend time with her family, while I go to the match and have a pint or two on the way back to see the in-laws

The match however....

Booked the hotel in Sunderland soon as the fixtures came out. £58 .

Must admit , having done a few nights in Newcastle and a weekend in Sunderland. the latter is a far better night out.

Proper pubs, Bit like rochdale was when it was a good night out. Fall out of 1 and fall into another. Good bands and it doesnt break the bank

Driving up and staying over in Sunderland on the Saturday, then my partner's catching the train to Newcastle on the Sunday (only £17.90 single from Victoria) for a night on the toon, before we head to Hadrian's Wall

Let's hope we're showing better form by then

I'll probably try a couple without wandering too far from my digs, weather permitting

It's a raw wind from the North Sea on Wearside! Any you could recommend where i won't get erm... blown away?

Edit: got your PM, cheers

Booked into a guest house about mile south of the SOL and just purchased my matchday ticket.

Gonna be looking at going on the official supporters coach for the first time in about 15 years.

Taking Chaff Junior as well for his first ever away game.

This should be a great weekend.

If the Toon is to busy for anybody I can recommend Tynemouth as a good spot for drinking! Lovely beach too and some top notch restaurants on the sea front.

On the Metro line as well and I think that might get you close to the SOL.

I think there will be a fair few Daley's making the most of this opportunity.

Aye, Tynemouth is great. For those wanting to be closer to town, Ouseburn has a smattering of good real-ale/craft beer places.

Anyone have any idea about decent pubs in Sunderland?

In the City centre itself (SR1 postcode from the CAMRA Good Beer Guide*) are:

Chaplins (8 beers** city centre) Stockton Street
Dun Cow (7 beers city centre) High Street West
Fitzgeralds (10 beers city centre) Garden Pl, Sunderland SR1 3HA
Museum Vaults (3 beers local on edge of city centre) Silksworth Row
Ship Isis (9 beers edge of city centre 5 doors down from MV above) Silksworth Row
William Jameson (8 beers city centre - Wetherspoons) Fawcett Street

* The Good Beer Guide is only a guide to the quality of the beer - if you're out with the Mrs. don't blame me if the pubs aren't that salubrious! Google them for more details.

** Refers to hand-pulled beers on the bar not including cider but again, don't blame me if they aren't all on!

There are a couple in the Roker area (SR6 postcode) if you are interested in them let me know?

Good work, cheers DL! I'd seen the Dun Cow and Isis, but not the others. Certainly won't go short of a decent pre-match pint, anyway.
