Top tips for my first trip 12:53 - Aug 22 with 24740 viewsJames1980

The day I make my first trip to Spo.... sorry the Crown Oil Arena, to use my shiny new season ticket is fast approaching.
So any tips on making sure I have a memorable (for the right reasons) day, will be much appreciated.
I will be from London on the train via Leeds. Probably take a stroll to the ground from the station.

Is it cheaper or more convenient to go via Leeds?

Why not get the train to Manchester Piccadilly, then the tram to Rochdale town centre and walk to the ground from there via Mellor Street

You must introduce yourself, James. What part of the ground is your season ticket for?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Next weekend I have to go from Kings Cross due to works at Euston, hence via Leeds.
I am in the Main Stand quite close to The Sandy.

If you like a good pub, then take a ten minute walk down to the Flying Horse one of the finest pubs in the town, from the train station. Then walk up to the Cemetery Pub, which is five minutes fromthe ground. Both pubs are excellent real ale pubs, as well as having good selection of other drinks. If the weather is poor, taking a private hire from Flying Horse to Spotland or to The Cemetery pub is on a few quid.

Excellent.

I've just had a word with the club's official photographer and he says he will do some snaps of you so we can do a story on your support for the club and trip north, etc.

He says he'll pop on here later to make arrangements with you.

As was mentioned above, a trip to The Flying Horse followed by a few in The Cem would certainly set your day off right! Nice food at both places as well.

Or make sure you get there!

Anyway, don't forget to make arrangements with DYSporting. Your message alert at the top of this page should be flashing red and you can communicate with him that way.

No man should leave this earth without experiencing a rag pudding, chips, peas and gravy at the Wilbutts chippy (just behind the away stand). A derby game with plenty of hungry away fans is probably not the best timing to sample such delights though. Wait until a game where the away following will be low and the queues will be much smaller. It also won't help with the gut, but collateral damage is a price worth paying.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

James has a shiny new season ticket to go with his shiny new shirt, so will have plenty of opportunities (presumably) during the course of the season

We look forward to hearing from you, James, regarding your several or many trips up from London

Did you get in touch with our photographer?

He's out and about on the road today, so might not have been able to check his messages.

I did and have told him where I will be located and eta.

Whereabouts are most of the regular forum posters located on a match day?
