How to fix the FA Cup 23:05 - Jan 28 with 4546 viewsGowerjack

I'm watching MOTD and its a poor show.

I'm old enough to remember when the Cup mean something.

I'd like to think that all real football fans would like the Cup competition to actually matter.

So what needs to happen to make it relevant again?

Champions League place for the winners.
The Final to be the last game of the season.
Semi Finals should be played at club grounds not Wembley.
All drawn games after the 4th round to be decided by replays not penalties.

Easy

I don't understand why it's broken, I thought people love the 'magic' of the cup when lower league teams beat the big boys, but for some reason it doesn't count unless they play certain players

Two non-league teams in the last 16, if that's not what the FA Cup is all about, then I don't know what is.

This is a very good point.

With the gulf in class between the PL and the rest expanding due to the money involved, if all PL teams played their first team the FA cup would have very, very few upsets and become boring.

In 30 years when those fans and players look back, there won't be an asterix next to Leeds or Brighton. Nobody will give a monkeys how old the players were. More fool those teams for allowing the reputation of the club to be tarnished.

I think that's another thing that's changed so much in recent years, clubs used to take the competition more seriously, simply because of the shame and derision came with being a division 1/premier league club, and losing to a lower league team, where as now most players, managers or even directors at the club are there for such a short space of time, they hardly give a crap about the clubs they work for.

Not to mention the product is so over saturated now, the FA Cup used to be one of the only games on live tv in the season, now I can watch football every day of the week if I wish.

The FA Cup doesn't need "fixing" for all the non Prem teams and their fans.
They are not a jaded bunch like Prem Fans are.
Just look at the enthusiasm of the lower league teams and their fans and their joy when they win or draw.

If a Premier League team or Championship team lose to a lower division team make them start in Round 1 of the competition in the following season. The team that defeated them from the lower division can start in Round 3.

I would scrap the League Cup and just have the FA Cup..
It's a massive shame the FA Cup used to be huge when I started watching football.
But I am sorry it's not the same watching the likes of Lincoln and Sutton beating Brighton and Leeds reserves.
Either treat the competition with respect it deserves or scrap it completely.

Yes good idea don't you think was a bit tongue in cheek.
But like Hereford Jack said may as well rename it the FA trophy with 2 non league sides in the 5th round.
