Contrary to popular belief and what we 'should' be doing would've signed him for another year if the money was right, seemed like a good bloke and a decent striker when it came down to it. Would've thought he was one of ainsworth's 'generals' and even allowing for that played in a good footballing side at Fulham. Wish him the besy |

Seeing him head thin air for a chance in the first half they didn't finish was shocking. He's bereft, we need to go 3atb or change him out but there's no one to go into centre defence alongside him and Dunne (who is also playing poorly) or replace him. Can we recall Masterson? |

My concern with it (and the idea of a 60 minute match with clock stopped whenever the ball goes out of play) is that it will lead to longer matches overall and with players and coaches using stoppages for tactical chats/reasons. If the punishment becomes 'we'll add this time on at the end', I fear the long term unintended consequences of that so I want yellow cards etc to be used properly as well to prevent teams taking water breaks/conferring on tactics. Ofc anything is better than the current settlement but I do worry with heavily rehearsed patterns of play (like 'plays' in American football), 5 subs, clock stopping, the game is becoming more like American football lite and moving away from the magic and spontaneous game we all love. |

There was a good article about manager release clauses on the athletic last month. Well worth a read https://theathletic.com/3736230/2022/11/01/manager-player-value-compensation?sou but consider the following point before using that particular issue as a stick to beat Hoos and Les with: Sasha Ryazantsev is Everton’s former chief finance and commercial officer. He was also on the board of directors at Goodison until 2021 and while he believes the manager is the most important person at a club, he feels there is a “fundamental difference” between their value and that of a player. Initially, there is the issue of reciprocity. “Clubs would love to have a release clause for a manager,” he says, “But any manager, or his agent, worth their salt would demand a reciprocal amount to be payable to him, should he be let go. “Because it is far more likely that the club would sack the manager than him going himself, clubs prefer to keep any release clause as low as possible. Sometimes, the fee can be clearly stipulated in the contract and sometimes it has to be negotiated. If the release clause is subject to negotiation, then a good starting point would be the manager’s termination clause. “In cases when that is not clear, it could be the remaining value of the contract, which can be quite expensive if the manager has just signed a new one.” |

Agreed- the dykes/Roberts chance was brilliant pressing, literally trapped them for Amos to win it |

Fear that this would only accelerate Americanisation- how could timewasting be enforced if clock is stopped? Would refs still book for timewasting? If not why wouldn't players take the opportunity to have a drink/discuss the next 'play' with the 'offense' coach? |

Sounds like Thatcher's ID card. I'm very wary of the use of minority and fringe behaviour to clamp down on civil liberties and think this should be avoided at all costs. Wary of turning this into a political thread so will tread carefully but- what changed in the past 10 years which makes these actions so much more commonplace? Why are social bonds weaker and people considering this kind of behaviour more acceptable? Is it COVID? Social media? Exponential growth in income inequality which over a large sample size has been shown to accompany civil unrest and increases in violence? https://news.stanford.edu/2017/01/24/stanford-historian-uncovers-grim-correlatio |

Yeah you're probably right, was just posing the question. Agreed re. Sanderson, looked good today and anyone who says he doesn't care didn't see him diving in today- in fact there were 3 players diving in to block on multiple occasions in the first half, enjoyed it. Had a few Chair moaners round me today too, suppose they're probably relying on similar logic in terms of results as I was in posing the Field question! |
