| News Comment | Colback bears gift to former club - Report at 16:52:42
Recent comments after each game have been, “I’m proud of the lads, they really emptied the tank for me” which is fine when you have 11 players on the pitch and they are not playing in a near Sahara temperature. Sometimes it’s all about game management; speaking as a mere season ticket holder and not as a professional coach, Following the sending off, and at 1-0 up,I would have taken one player off, possibly Smyth, and replaced him with Salter-Clarke at the back and moved Fox into midfield. Would we have held on - possibly, would we have drawn - possibly, but it’s now water under the bridge. My other comment is the new rules for adding time for substitutions, time wasting, players not leaving the nearest part pitch. Why doesn’t the 4th official just stop the clock via the big screen, at least everyone in the ground would be aware of what’s going on. Do refs add time on for for over celebrating once a goal is scored when all the team run to a corner and jump on the scorer. At this rate a 7.45 evening kick off will finish at 10.15! Moan over! |
| News Comment | But she just smiled and turned away — Report at 21:10:06
Gavin Ward Stats. Two QPR games in charge this season. QPR 1 Red, 6 Yellows and one penalty awarded to the opposition - Opponents 3 Yellows But it still doesn’t take away the fact that the Fulham keeper probably had the easiest second half he has had all season. |
| News Comment | A rot stopper - Report at 11:27:14
Good to see we stopped the rot. We have Hugill here on loan for a reason, if he was as prolific as our former fans favourite Charlie Austin, he would still be in the West Ham squad. Hope he proves me wrong on Saturday. |
| News Comment | QPR happy to toss away FA Cup place to Sheff Wed - Report at 19:55:54
Disappointing result, especially if Sheffield Wednesday get a plum draw against a top Premiership team. I find it strange that we are loaning out players to give them game time, yet we are signing players on loan to give them game time with us. I appreciate that Jack Clarke is only 19, but he is not our player, for this particular game why not give game time to a player we have under our contract, I.e. Shodipo who aged 22 could have played on the right wing caused their left back all sorts of problem and if things didn’t work out in the first half, then bring on Osayi-Samuel. We may not have the squad to make it to Wembley, but a big opportunity lost for either a day out at a Premiership ground or a potential full house and great atmosphere at Loftus Road against a side like Man City. |
| News Comment | Back to life, back to reality — Report at 20:47:52
In addition to the 2nd half identical “never learning from mistakes†kick off we just didn’t learn from the amount of time and space we gave to Armstrong on their right wing. Bidwell always seems to drift into the middle of defence and now Manning plays in a similar fashion, which allowed Armstrong to have the freedom of the right wing. I can see why you gave him 8 Clive, he was a danger every time Health received the ball. |
| News Comment | QPR plumb new depths in Rotherham debacle - Report at 18:06:07
Clive, you summed it up perfectly in your report. The other thing that was so frustrating; if we did get the ball out wide we decided to cross the ball for Matt Smith. Oh hold on, he’s not playing, well let’s cross the ball exactly the same everytime and maybe Smith might suddenly appear like the Genie out of the lamp. I suppose that fact that there are so many of the green jacketed team in the dug out, must be SO confusing, as each of them must have their own individual clipboards, but the only clipboard missing is the one that says “try a shot on goal!†|
| News Comment | QPR haunted at the witching hour once more — Report at 10:02:05
So frustrating to witness the R’s playing so deep and allowing West Brom to practically camp in our penalty area. One moment that summed it up for me, during that period, was Cousins winning the ball and deciding to belt the ball up the field to no one in particular, when he could have passed it forward to Osayi-Samual who was in front of him and could have just ran the down the wing heading for the corner flag. |
| News Comment | QPR suffer horrible déjà vu as Forest run riot again - Report at 11:58:56
What can be said about the game that Clive hasn't said in his report already.I find it difficult to understand what goes on in the managers head. Away defeats are met with post match comments, such as that made following the Sheffield United game "we are getting there!" and the post match comments from this debacle are "Everything we talked about, nobody did." So after 20 minutes, get a message out on the pitch to change things, motivate things or give them a good rucking to the players to get them to do the job the MANAGER had planned to do when you were practising during the week. I have moaned in a number previous comments where i have posted, that playing Wszolek in a right sided wing back position isn't working. The position he is being asked to play is neither winger or defender, spending the majority of the game on the half way line. A position that Cousins has also limited success with. Has Ollie had a fall-out with Furlong a recognised right back? If so, is that why he stayed on the bench! On paper we have a number of talented players, but its just not working as a team. So who is to blame - players; management, coaches? A number of critics are calling for Ollie's head this season, but who ever came in would have to work with the same group of players. What we don't appear to have, is a system that learns from mistakes and rectifies them, either during the game, or in preparation for the following game. By the way, I have never seen a crazed raccoon around a bin, so they may have a serious infestation of them at the training ground and maybe the players are being distracted during the coaching sessions from the job they are supposed to do during the 90 minutes! |
| News Comment | QPR comprehensively beaten by Boro — Report at 21:00:15
Totally agree with your match report. We had no drive in the first half, and only came alive at the start of the second half. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that we play much better when attacking the Loft End. When Smith came on at least he was the same height as some of Boro's defence. The only problem; we contually "lump" the ball forward and although Smith wins a good percentage of headers, there is no one anticipating the flick ons! Basic training ground practice required if we play a long ball game. Although it's good to see the youngsters getting their chance, with Smith coming on as substitute, maybe the better option would have been to have brought on Wszolek to play wide, get to the goal line, and play the ball back for Smith to attack. But Middlesbrough were the much better side on the day and deserved the 3 points |
| News Comment | Roofe on fire as QPR’s struggles continue — Report at 11:45:41
Clive, much as I appreciate your view that a host of players may be off loaded as they are out of contract; allowing us to dip our toe in the transfer market next summer, we may not have the luxury of attracting players to the club if we are playing in League 1. We may not be able to get a quick fix, but as you say chopping and changing the team is not helping the consistency of the team. If we are going to play a traditional big centre forward, as we did on Saturday, then you have to play with a winger who will get to the goal line and cross the ball back to enable players to attack the ball. The best move of the first half led to the ball being played wide for a cross that could easily have led to a goal. For long periods of the second half, Wszolek was standing in acres of space in front of the Ellerslie Road stand but did not receive the ball as we tried to manufacture openings in a. crowded midfield. We have a number of gifted individuals but we are not working as a team. What is the answer? Coaching, tactics? There should be a system that is drummed into the players on the training field; so whoever is plays for the first team knows exactly what they are expected to do in a system (Plan A or Plan B) so whether it's Wheeler, Samual or Uncle Tom Cobbly we have some consistency. I appreciate we have had a number of injuries that has weakened our defence for example, but surely there must be be players from the Under 23 team that should be coached and when the need arises given the opportunity to play in their position in a system learnt on the training field.Look at the record books and see how many players, under the age of 23, played at Wembley in 1967. So frustrating at the moment! |
| News Comment | QPR's renewed heart and fight secures Fulham point - Report at 17:25:21
Lewis, as you stated, it was good to see a revitalised QPR side putting in the effort and the fans getting behind the team. After the game Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic said "In these conditions with a tight pitch, we found it difficult to move the ball as they closed the space." The QPR pitch size is 112 x 72 yards, the Fulham pitch size is 109 x 71 yards. I suggest he should ask his ground staff to invest in a new tape measure! Pedantic, I know, but I love to hear the Arsene Wenger school of excuses. |
| News Comment | Ince’s smash and grab has QPR and Derby heading opposite ways — Report at 15:20:32
A much better performance last night and some players showing a bit more belief. Unfortunately I cannot see where are going to get a goal from. Despite Chery,s corner kicks being poor, I rhought that before he was subbed we were starting to put more pressure on Derby and the supporters were starting to make themselves heard; and then we witnessed the start of the substitutions - Chery for Gladwin, really, I hate to criticise any of our players but Gladwin has been so anonymous in the majority of the games he has played that it was very apparent that the supporters became deflated. Can Holloway explain, why not sub Chery for Polter, while the team were on the front foot, after all our last win against Norwich, they both scored. ince surrounded by three defenders and still getting his shot on target needs to be reviewed by the managagement team as well. A long season lies ahead. |
| News Comment | Sylla’s late leveller can’t save Hasselbaink’s job — Report at 16:01:29
Excellent report and mach summary. Especially the line - "It’s hard to shake the idea that Hasselbaink and his coaching staff don’t just mix the five magnetic tags up in a bag and then throw them at the board and play whatever lands." Let's hope the powers that be don't use the same system for selecting the next manager, if so, who would be in the bag; Tim Sherwood, Sam Allardyce, Mick McCarthy, Gary Rowett, Nigel Pearson, David Warner, Roberto Martinez or even Ian Dowie who had the highest win percentage of any QPR manager - albeit he only managed for 15 games. Who ever it is, please let us get back to playing the type of football to excite and entertain the fans. |
| News Comment | Team with plan v team with vague idea — Report at 22:15:03
QPR 0 Preston 2; JFH "I felt tiredness was a factor in the sides below par performance." QPR 0 Newcastle 6; JFH "we were too open, too stretched, it wasn't us tonight and that's not acceptable." QPR 0 Brentford 2; JFH "we were second best. They put a trap for us and we fell into that trap. They countered us too many times and that's our own fault." I'm glad to see that things are being put right each week on the training field and we are learning from mistakes! |
| News Comment | Rampant Newcastle inflict record defeat on sorry QPR - Report at 20:23:06
Where were the leaders in the team last night. Someone like Shaun Derry cajoling the players someone to shout I don't care what JFH has told us just get someone on Shelvey and stick with him. Unbelievable how much time and space he was given. One example in the first half Newcastle gained a corner and we just trotted back to take up our so called defensive positions, leaving Shelvey in acres of space to receive the quickly taken corner kick. As you say Clive, credit Newcastle they out muscled us, outpaced us and we're light years ahead in their attacking prowess. Cousins and Henry negate each other leaving no creative midfielder to fill the gap between defence and attack. In all my years of watching the R's it's the first time I have left the ground after 65 minutes and I witnessed some heavy home defeats during the 68/69 season. |
