Seems like Saints have learnt from their mistakes. Much better to buy a player who has proven he can score in the PL, for much less than unproven players like Carrillo, who cost a lot more. |

Seems like a good signing. He's 25, tall and strong. He scored 6 goals in 14 appearances, in a poor Sheffield United team. He scored a hatful for Blackburn before he joined Sheff Utd. He has PL experience. Looks like a James Beattie type player. And all for about 7 million. |

Thanks for the responses. Who an earth would spend a load more money for a few vouchers for the shop, some unwanted tat of the club's choice and a shirt, when you could just get a shirt for less than the bolt on? £200 worth of key rings and scarves for the price of £150 just seems like nonsense. I can certainly see how a few might be tempted to pay more, to jump the queue for away tickets, but that wouldn't be fair. Priority on cup and away games, which is what you get as a ST holder anyway? Hmm, don't understand these bolt ons at all. [Post edited 27 Jul 0:27]

Can anyone shed any light on what these are. I don't want one, just want to understand why anyone would get one and whether it's fair. It says "Cup and away priority" for silver and gold. What does this mean? Those who have bought bolt on's can get an away ticket before those without bolt on's? So in practice, a fan with a gold bolt on who hasn't been to any away games quite fancies going to Bournemouth away, so gets priority over those who have have been to lots of away games? And if not, what's the point of the bolt on? At the same time, why should someone who has paid a lot more on away games but doesn't have the bolt on, miss out on away tickets? Just goes to show that we have the numbers, when fans are being treated well. The consensus when I talk to fans is one of optimism and that they all loved last year and the efforts RM and the team put in. And I have to agree. I like this team and even with the valid concerns about tactics, I like this manager. He is honest, genuine and has potential. The way the players interacted with the fans at Eastleigh was friendly and a breath of fresh air. The fans are onside, and dare I say it, we are a big club. 3200 fans all the way up there is impressive. This is also the first time I can remember a season ticket waiting list! I have always said, give the fans something to cheer, a team that gives its all, something to get behind and the fans will be there. The West Brom game and Wembley proved just what the Saints fans can do. It's up to the club and the players to give us what we want (effort, determination on the pitch, care for the fans). And that is what they are doing. [Post edited 26 Jul 9:49]

It was a bizarre atmosphere at Eastleigh the other night. Saints are my team, but I also follow Eastleigh when Saints arn't playing. The away section was all Saints shirts, but even they seemed to have an appreciation that Eastleigh are a local side and there wasn't any huge celebrations or taking the P!ss. I sat in the Eastleigh end with a few who seemed to be cheering on Eastleigh, some Saints fans in there too being mostly respectful but many just supporting both. It was a bit strange. The vast majority of Eastleigh fans are also Saints fans, but there are quite a few exceptions. We have a Palace fan in the family, born and bred Londoner, but has lived near Eastleigh for about 20 years. He likes football, watches Palace but also Eastleigh as they are local. Obviously, Solent Toffee on here watches Eastleigh too. People who move to the area from other places watch Eastleigh as well. It was interesting to see that Eastleigh also have their own fans, who only support Eastleigh. I also saw a Pompey shirt there, saying he supports Pompey and Eastleigh. All very bizarre. |

Lallana was warming up on the pitch but didn't play any part in the game as far as I am aware. If he did play any part, I also didn't notice him or see him! I heard he felt his muscle go and he didn't play as a precaution. I thought Sugawara looked real quality when he came on. An easy game for Saints, completely dominated, as you would expect. No sign of Walker-Peters, Adams or Ross Stewart. I thought it was a great evening. The Saints players and Russell Martin were excellent with the fans. All very happy to go to the side of the pitch and take photos and sign autographs. In the car park, after the game, Jack Stephens was an absolute example of how a professional football player should act. He was super friendly and approachable before he eventually got in his car. Top man in my opinion. |

I'm no Trump fan, but all the wars started (Russia /Ukraine, Israel / Gaza), only when Trump had left office. Didn't he even threaten King John Un, which put him in his place? Playing devil's advocate here, the world hasn't exactly been a safe and calm place without him. I assume that's what Trump supporters in the US would be saying. |

England in the final again. Despite the moans about Southgate, England are in the final. Getting the job done, boring or not is all that matters. And Holland are a great team. Venebles, Hoddle, Keegan only ever got to the semis at best. Boring is best by the looks of it. [Post edited 10 Jul 21:56]

I really hope Starmer and his governement are as decent as they sound. I voted Labour this time, (with reservations) as Starmer's country first, party second mantra is spot on. The Tories were rightly punished for taking the electorate for granted and treating them like fools. Starmer comes across as sound, sensible, decent and genuine. Rachel Reeves also comes across well as a professional woman, who should do a good job as Chancellor. Not sure about Rayner. That could end in tears I suspect! Let's hope Starmer and his government don't start playing all the tricks and lying his way through like they usually do. You're right, they are here to serve us. [Post edited 7 Jul 13:04]

But again we win. England in the semi finals again. It's as boring and as unconvincing as you like, but Southgate is getting the job done. |

Maybe and let's hope he's good in the PL. But he hasn't ever faced PL strikers, so I don't know how being good against league one strikers is proof he will be good against PL strikers. Great to get him in now as potential yes, and great to get in young British players, all for that but we need some PL quality too IMO. The PL is ruthless. Tadic had played for Feyenoord and in champions league games before coming to us I believe. Same with Mane. They were established internationals. We aren't buying players of proven quality like them, with experience in the top leagues, more young players with potential. Edwards could get get torn apart by Haaland and the like we don't know, he hasn't ever faced him. Didn't we go down that road, the last time we were in the PL? Bazunu, Larios, Edozie, Mara, Bella Kotchap, Sulemana as well as Lavia ofcourse. All for a total of about 60 million. I think it could be better spent on one or two proven quality rather than ten players with potential. [Post edited 6 Jul 11:15]

A Swansea player who has never played PL football? A player from Peterborough from league one to PL. Am I missing something here? Should we not be signing trued and tested PL players? I really think we need a top 40 million pound striker, an experienced defender and a play maker if we are to survive in the brutal PL we are about to face. |

Starmer is just what we need at this moment in time. A bit of calm, level-headedness, non-dramatic, sensible leadership. I wait with baited breath to see if they act to improve the NHS, sort out the pot holes, provide funding for local authorities, reduce immigration to sensible levels and just restore faith in politicians. I have a feeling he will make a good PM, but we shall see. |
