Excellent read…….I was working in LA in 96, was in Vegas for the Bruno v Tyson fight the day of the 98th minute Cantona goal, listened to it on BBC World Service SW radio in a flea pit hotel on the strip at 7am, when the report of the late goal came through, decided to only thing to do was go on the piss!......Ended up bumping into a few Northolt Rs I knew later in the day, singing Rangers songs in Tropicana Hotel Bar. Bruno got knocked out early, and we ended up drinking with a load of West Ham in some god awful lap dancing club. |

Really excellent and funny read.........I really miss away days with Rangers, had some great days / memories in the 80s and early 90s........football always secondary , just a great day out with mates..........not done it for a while as working here in Pattaya………. Swindon away when I was home in 2008 (?) in the league cup was the last one, and that involved my cousins new Ford something ( it was big , I’m not a car bloke , but expensive ), his Thai wife saying don’t drink and drive as he reversed out of their drive way, 4 passengers in the back seats, knowing that was never really going to happen, ( we were setting off at noon from Uxbridge for an evening KO ), my cousin then taking us to his mates house on the way for reasons I will only describe as recreational purposes ( well following Rangers etc. etc. ), to only walk out of the blokes house , get in the car and after fiddling about with his new car stereo, say ‘ not good bloke topped himself last night ‘………sort of killed the need for recreational items, so we stuck to Stella……….arrived in Swindon, with my cousin watching his new sat nav, as opposed to any street signs or the road come to that, we sailed right past Swindon exit……….we then ended up in some Swindon railway pub , where we decided to f##k the game off and stay on the p**s, well it was warm ( pissing down outside and Dowie was manager ), after a lot of Stella and some suddenly found recreational help, we all started on about how much we loved Rangers , and decided to head to the ground at h/time…….my cousins Thai wife’s calls by this stage were going unanswered, it was messy…….we won , and my mate Rick said we should have a quick one on the way home so my driving cousin could sober up a bit, he directed us to a pub away from the ground, near the motorway, all seemed good, turned out we walked into Swindon’s ‘ yoof ‘ mobs lair, we were not afraid of a row and in our 40s , I think they were as nervous of us , as us of them………….it was only when my cousin ( who was most definitely not sobering up on OJs shouted get in there U Rs, when SKY was flashing up the scores it turned nasty……..a few angry words exchanged, I sort of thought this is where my cousins new Ford gets a christening of bottles and the wrath of Swindon’s unemployed , …surprisingly they let us drive out the car park, and we hit the M4 in one piece……my cousins driving home was erratic at best, we hit the Colnbrook turn off in under an hour, and I nearly said I will walk to my mums house, but we had come this far……….they dropped me off at mums , and my dear old mum ( RIP ) was waiting up , she said you got back quick , if only she knew!!........my mate Rick was the last be dropped off, my cousin by this stage was back on form, he said lets spark up a joint, and I will head home…….he proceeded to smoke, eat all of Ricks M&S bachelor grub he had in the fridge, and head off into the night and the wrath of an angry Thai wife who could never understand the things lads will get up to on a simple trip watching Rangers……..sorry if I went on a bit, just miss days like that! |

Another good read mate. I enjoyed getting calls from my mates ( who were on an open top bus from Uxbridge before the game and Uxbridge Rd afterwards ). Gutted I missed it , but a small band of us had a blinding night out here in Pattaya. All a bit messy, to really say the least !!!. Anyway have a good summer......keep up the good work....... |

He briefly pitched up at Bristol City and that depressed him even more, as pitching up at Bristol City would do to anybody, and God knows where he is now. _________________________________________________________________ He is living here in Pattaya, frequenting some very dubious bars by all accounts…….the sort where the “female†company , would have a good chance of getting in Rangers back four…….. |
