You're bang on - a very bizarre and frustrating evening. Santos was culpable for at least two goals and how the bench couldn't see this, I don't know! What also perplexed me was the role of Sam Field. He is probably the weakest player in the team when we're in possession and yet he's employed as the holding CM to drop in deep looking for the ball when our centre backs have it. When he receives it, you can bet your mortgage it will either go back to the CB or sideways at best! Madsen, who I thought was recruited as an '8' drifts in and out of games and rarely dictates play, as he I thought he might or should. Surely we need someone like him, getting on the ball from deep and driving us forward? I understand Field's role when we lose the ball, but in possession this is very strange and infuriating! |

I can’t remember a period where I was so in love with the current squad and manager but literally yawned my way through the last three league games; Plymouth, Sheff Wed and Millwall 🥱 |

I was lucky enough to sit up in block C last night (great view of the pitch) with a Palace matey. He was very complimentary of us and in particular Saito. Mentioned a few times that he was by far our best player and yet, is a fringe player at the minute. I also saw Chair walking about and in good spirits. I asked him about his back and he said he felt fine, but is governed by the club doctor so has no idea when he'll be allowed to return. |
| Forum Reply | Should Dykes play alongside Field in midfield at 10:16 18 Aug 2024
Joelinton has done it for Newcastle so not completely beyond the realms of possibility 🤷🏻♂️ I do strongly believe that Colback should not start another game for us. Utterly brainless 🤯 |

For me, Saturday was a classic example of a meaningless friendly; played at a snails pace with zero intensity. I certainly won't be reading too much into this, given how well we played vs. Spurs the previous week. What irritated me most though, was playing Field and Colback together; hopefully nothing more than given them both minutes?! Neither were able or prepared to play on the half turn and push the team forwards; every pass either going backwards or sideways! I felt like I was watching England all over again! |

Agree 100% with the OP and for the life of me can't see why we're not playing Chair (in what I believe) in his best position. Surely we have to build a team around him and I feel that Willock is best from the left and Smyth from the right. Sorry, but Dyke in behind Armstrong is not working. |
| Forum Reply | Belated thoughts on Sunday - Report at 16:57 17 Jan 2024
That's an interesting point Steve - where does Chair see his best position and who has the final say?! We are crying out for a ball-playing central midfielder and have one, yet he's stuck on the left wing! I don't see any issue with him drifting out wide, as ordinarily if you're asked to play in the '10' on the ball you usually have a free role. We're not a million miles away from the Taarabt days (light years in quality I know!) but he would often start centrally and then drift out wide. That then creates more space in the middle for other players to exploit. If we had Chair pulling the strings from the '10' with Willock, Smyth and Dykes ahead of him I think we would be far more affective; we'll do F'all with Armstrong in the '9' and Dykes just behind him! |
| Forum Reply | Changes for Millwall at 09:40 17 Jan 2024
Let's be honest, we're not a million miles away from getting 'that' win. The majority of our defeats under Marti (someone correct me if I'm wrong..) have been by one goal, so we are there and there abouts. Clinging on to the last crumb of hope here, but perhaps a tweak in formation could bring about a turn in fortune? Warburton did it not that long ago and we never looked back? The most famous switch of formation was surely under Don Howe when he reverted to a sweeper system (Paul Parker if I remember rightly) slotting in and turning our fortune from odds on relegation to a safe mid-table finish. |

Surely we need to try something different for Saturday, given our recent form/luck has tried out completely. I know it wont materialise, but Marti if you're reading this, let me know your thoughts?! 3-5-2 GK - Begovic RCD - Cannon CB - Cook LCB - JCS RWB - Smyth LWB - Paal DM - Field DM - Collback 10 - Chair ST - Dykes ST - Willock |

100% BANG ON mate! |

Lee Hoos is pretty much doing this role (DOF) now. He's moved in to the training ground offices (previously occupied by Les) so there isn't an immediate rush to appointment a new DOF and spend even more money we don't have! |
| Forum Reply | Ainsworth at 16:21 11 Oct 2023
My suspicions are he will be given Huddersfield as 'another go' by which point the players will have revolted, Warnock will have accepted the Sheffield Wednesday job, Eustace taking the Rangers position and then all that is bargain bucket at Aldi - Nathan 'feckin' Jones Only at QPR! |

Why do we need to get relegated in order to sort our mess out? If the owners do want to sell the club (which I believe they do long term and then sell Loftus Road for flats) going down a division would only devalue their assets? They have to act on GA and appoint a short term solution to see us out until the end of the season and then consider there options. Relegation is unthinkable and knowing us, it would take 4-5 years to bounce back! |
| Forum Reply | Ainsworth at 16:53 3 Oct 2023
You raise a fair point here mate and I too have been thinking similar for a while. Ainsworth's mantra appears to be "us against the world" which is ok in one-off games or throw-away cup matches as most people can relate to the underdog mentality. This ethos is also reflective in our current home form, where we sit in and look to expose sides on the break; almost giving every single team (regardless of who they are) too much respect; all because it worked ok against Cardiff and Middlesbrough! This sadly highlights his naivety or perhaps lack of game management? If something is working fine away from home; great, keep doing it. If you haven't won at home in 20 odd matches then surely you need to try something new? In short, I would like to see Ainsworth stay and achieve what we all want him to do. Unfortunately, I can't see that happening and unlike last season, I don't think the players are the main issue this time around. NW would be my choice to guide us to safety and then we regroup in the summer! |
| Forum Reply | Please, PLEASE, for the love of God... at 09:59 9 May 2023
I feel we (the club) are stuck between a rock and hard place, as what we need right now is a steady summer with a manager in place planning for the new season. However, that current manager (IMO) is probably not the right person to be left in charge to oversee the new signings and if we rely on our DOF for this; well, his record doesn't scream success! If we release GA, it's another payoff and then, like most say, where do we go from here? The reality is, GA will probably be given the summer to rebuild, however based on yesterday's performance I fear he'll be hounded at the door by early October and then we're back to square one! Whilst I'm a big fan of GA, he really didn't do himself any favours yesterday. In his pre-match interview he spoke about winning every game, regardless of importance and expected the players to play with freedom and composure. We then lined up with a 4-4-2 (AGAIN!!) in a home match trying to stifle the opposition and hit them on the break! Why not revert back to his 'favoured' 4-3-3 and throw the kitchen sink at Bristol and if you're going to lose, why not do it playing open and expansive football?! |

| Forum Reply | 2 up top - it does not work at 09:34 20 Apr 2023
Two up front isn't necessarily the issue, it's the two we're choosing every game! We can't play with two 'target men' for a number of reasons; 1) they are not mobile enough and 2) our service from wide areas is atrocious! On top of that, it means playing Chair out wide on the left and he is being bypassed constantly with 'hoof ball' therefore not affecting the game. If one of the two target men was Paul Furlong, then maybe, we might be able to make the ball stick in the final third; bringing players like Chair into play more. Surely, surely against Burnley we need to drop one of the front two lumps and bring an extra man into the middle, i.e. Amos if fit? |
