Why bother, eh? You were back on this messageboard 5 minutes before you started with snide, cnty posts about Grenfell being "political" among your usual attention-seeking bullsht, and STILL everyone just bit their tongue and let you do what you do. A lot of that was because of your illness, but it was also because most people here and everywhere else have had a hard fking three years, and mostly just want somewhere to talk about football. Now this. Isn't life a bit short? FFS, grow up or fk off mate. [Post edited 12 Sep 2022 20:51]

You're right, but we gave Fulham a 20 year head start. They transformed their Academy under Tigana while we were passing round collection buckets. I think lot of it is definitely down to facilities - but it's also down to getting a virtuous circle going of successful kids coming through that in turn attracts more of them, and creating an awareness of the club as an option among the parents of talented local kids. In my experience there's very little of that even now. My boy's just finished secondary school on North End Road - they play in the "QPR League" and half the kids come from W12 but people are desperate to get their sons into the Fulham set-up. Rangers don't really even come up in conversation. Could the club do more now? Probably. But a big part of the problem is that Rangers totally neglected their connections with the local area for donkey's years. That actually got worse through the 00s - it wasn't like Briatore and Ecclestone were going to make any efforts to nurture the club's links with schools in west London. Made me think about it when we signed Taylor Richards. Grew up in the Bush, went to his first game at LR in a replica shirt and ended up at age nine at... Fulham. I honestly don't know enough about what Paul Hall and the others are doing to know how well they're doing it, but I do know they've walked into a massive historical problem. And in many ways as we've discovered, it's a lot harder and more long-term a problem to fix than getting success for the first team, which in theory you can do pretty straightforwardly with the right manager and enough budget. Don't disagree BUT there's a parallel reality where Gallen doesn't get injured two games into the first season after relegation and Dichio doesn't leave for Italy. The two of them were too raw to keep us up, but for me they'd have been good enough to get us promoted again - as two west London boys who had both come through as apprentices. |

I think Monday 19th is meant to be the more likely date. |

I'd assume next week's games (and Stoke) will be back on, personally. I think as Dave said, the clincher for tomorrow will have been OB. Expectation will be people piling down to London, heading for Buckingham Palace, and there needing to be a visible police presence just to stop it all getting a bit chaotic. |

Agreed. I had a work thing cancelled at the absolute last minute last night after the news broke - no connection to anything even vaguely to do with royalty, people had already travelled for it etc, but the organisers felt it wouldn't be appropriate to carry on. Can't blame them - as you say, they had no idea what to do, but were clearly terrified someone somewhere would have a go at them for getting it wrong and being disrespectful, so pulled the plug. Be very surprised if the game goes ahead tomorrow. |

If you want to show your respect for the woman, why start a post by kicking off at other people on the messageboard? (Especially as nobody has actually done anything like what you describe.) Unless that's the thing you really want to do in the first place, but need an excuse to do it - which is a bit grim. You'd hope few people irrespective of their politics would take pleasure in the ill health of a 96 year old woman, or use it to score points. On that basis, maybe you should edit your post. |

I find our endless nostalgia for players and managers past one of the most depressing things about Rangers. For all that we're forever looking backwards, when has it ever really worked for us? Think about Gerry's second time round, Holloway's second time round, Austin last season, Nigel bloody Quashie hoofing the ball straight into touch when he came back. Ridiculous. Oh and obviously, I'd absolutely LOVE IT if Adel re-signed. |

On the back up LB, Field could probably do the job in an emergency. He played there quite a bit earlier in his career, and with Iroegbunam coming in, as you say we've now got what looks like a more than decent like-for-like in midfield. |

I think they've got Arsenal and Man City next... |

What a very, very Rangers thing to do. God bless Keith Stroud. And Beale and Les keeps their jobs another week. Who'd have thunk it? |

Football's chaotic. Everyone involved is looking out for themselves, the game is badly and greedily run from the top down, players get injured, plans change. Sometimes it works out, most of the time it doesn't. When was it ever different? And when were Rangers ever different? |
| Forum Reply | Who is Leon balogun at 11:20 27 Aug 2022
I'd assume all this means Clarke Salter is out longish term. It's been obvious that Dickie and Dunne are too slow to play together in a two, and Dunne isn't good enough on the ball for what Beale is trying to do. And we're *really* up the creek if either of them got injured or suspended - Dunne and Masterson is a relegation partnership. Like so much around Rangers at the moment, the reaction to this seems a bit hysterical. [Post edited 27 Aug 2022 11:23]

We are talking about the same Dave Sexton who obsessively studied the '74 Dutch team and how Rinus Michels could be translated into English football? As well as pioneering the use of video in sussing out the oppostion? At the same QPR where Venables then came in with a host of wacky new ideas about coaching and tactics, and got us a cup final, promotion and 5th in the league in successive seasons? I'm not sure the *real* glory days of QPR were ever about personality managers shouting in the dressing room. |

Thing is though, Chair, Willock and everyone else are all effectively for sale already aren't they? I know Watford were sniffing round Ilias last summer and may do again, but it isn't like we've been actively knocking back bids for anybody as far as I know. It all feels very lose-lose, unfortunately. As it stands we're stuck with some very obvious problems and a squad that barely classes as threadbare BUT if either of Willock or Chair goes now, I'd fear for us. No-one needs telling how important Willock is, but while Chair has weirdly become some people's designated scapegoat, he's also the most dogged competitor in the squad by some distance. Taking that out of the team with only Johansen's "leadership" to replace it? Really doesn't bear thinking about. Sadly I also doubt whether Willock will re-sign even if we do sell someone else and have a bit more cash to play with. The boy deserves Premiership football, and let's be honest, a Premiership wage with it. Why is he going to jeopardise that when he's already had a couple of nasty injury scares in his career? (Which also means all the more credit to Chair for signing a contract extension with us after the BOS/Manning fiascos, but that's another post...) [Post edited 22 Aug 2022 14:12]

Exactly. Which also means that if, for example, you give Stefan Johansen a three year contract in the summer of 2021, the outlay will still be registering for FFP in 2027... |
