And I would like to predict that if The Dale were to play the long ball from the keeper to the striker(s) and a goal or two were to result, the Dale crowd would be quite satisfied should it happen like that 3 or 4 times every game. Not many opponents can make a comeback from being 4 goals down. OK so the "science" of the game might be lost but the crowds would come back to see a goal feast at every match. Result? More crowds, more money, higher league placings, promotions being thought of by mid-season. It's not a game plan, it's a business plan to get results. |
| Forum Thread | Post War Rochdale FC match programmes at 14:18 9 Apr 2024
I am trying to locate someone who has access to Rochdale FC programmes dated between 1946 - 1951. What I am trying to locate is the date when my father Walter R Commins became the secretary of the club. In these old programmes, the was always a list of Club officials. I would be grateful for any help fellow supporters can offer. |

That's where Sir Bobby Charlton (bless his soul) was born, I think. |

Newport County FC is run on a similar basis to The Dale i.e. Fan Owned by the Supporters. There is a report of what's going on in the BBC Sports Pages on the internet. It makes interesting reading. |

A couple of seasons ago it was Harrogate v Rochdale. Harrogate's first game in the Football League against The Dale.. I seem to remember that Harrogate were 2 up before The Dale got started and when we did get started we finally lost 3-2 This year it is Ebbsfleet United on their first venture into the National League against The Dale. Enough said. |

The situation that Rochdale AFC find themselves in can hardly be a surprise. Here we have a manager that is clearly not good enough to manage the team and does not appear to be able to motivate them. Honorable men would have thrown in the towel some time ago but he probably has a mortgage to pay ans a family to feed so he just can't afford to leave. The management of the club is in the hands of a group of very willing and optimistic folks but there is no source of large funds to do what most clubs would have done months ago - change the manager. But they can't afford to do that. So as you can see, there is a £ sign in front of everybody concerned with the club. The sad thing is that there is likely to be fewer pounds coming from the meagre gates that The Dale can expect next season. It's sad also that the fans who have supported The Dale for many years are the real losers. But what is most annoying is that this scenareo was not recognised earlier in the season (having seen the first 10 league games pass without a single win!) and some remedial action taken then. As it stands the scene is unlikely to change anytime in the forseeable future. This view comes from an Exile who cannot quite understand what is happening after attending the away game at Newport and the Exile's Day match against Stevenage. I have only watched those two games this season. |
| Forum Thread | The EFL Club supporters' survey at 11:02 10 Mar 2022
This appeared on my e-mail IN box this morning. It has probably been circulated to thousands of football fans. I don't think that I was selected for any particu;ar reason. It seeks opinions on scores of subjects and the introduction suggests that the survey will only take around 20 minutes. ] DO NOT BE FOOLED. I attempted it and terminated it after an hour when it started asked for opinions on referees!! At that stage I still had 2 "blobs" left on the progress bar. SO BE WARNED. Don't start it unless you have at least an hour to spare. My own view is that a survey of such length is not going to reflect true balanced opinions - folks will just get fed up.......like me. This looks like the EFL playing true to form. |

What on earth is all this about (apart from pictures of The Dale players) Is there a story line to it? If so, it's hidden somewhere. Please explain your objective so folks can understand. |

Thanks for that. Is this the time that our trainees get a glimpse of the action? I don't suppose the cameras will be there. So someone might just post the result for me around 9 o'clock. It might just be the first home win of the season. Or maybe not......................? |

| Forum Thread | ZEN Sponsorship at 15:39 12 Nov 2020
I was very pleased to learn that ZEN was now a sponsor of the club. ZEN is a fine organisation. I have been with them since they started up in a small industrial estate unit in the town so the fact that I am still with them says a lot. Their customer service is excellent. Their technical help line is everything that you could wish for when you have a problem. And the really good part is that you are speaking to somone in Rochdale. My latest acquisition has been the fast broadband together with ZEN supplying my land line telephone service, which I found to be lower cost than BT. I am super satisfied and I am sure that other Dale supporters will be too. |

Look on the bright side. Due to COVID-19 there was nobody at Spotland to see it. It will soon be forgotten. |

Compensation for the lower leagues? ........levy a tax on all the Premiership millionaire players. They are the ones being protected so let them help their colleagues in the lower leagues. |
| Forum Thread | Heading the football at 19:33 17 Jan 2020
The Scottish FA have now banned youth soccer from heading the football. Whilst I think that the sentument is OK, I wonder whether this is a sledgehammer to crack a nut (no pun intended). If this is introduced into competitive soccer, then the probable consequences are that there will be fewer goals scored and more free kicks and penalties (unless an offence in the penalty area attrcts only an indirect free kick). The paying public will react by claiming that the game has eroded as a result. Should that happen, there is a countermeasure that will probably at least restore the balance to what was before any ban on heading. I suggest that the countermeasure is to banish off-side offences and scrap the use of VAR too, except for goal-line decisions. |
| Forum Reply | Shifting Hatred at 16:23 9 Jan 2020
Folks who show so much hate, have a mental problem. That is probably why the Football League is promoting a one minute silence prior to matches starting. Think about it. What does so much hatred achieve? |
