Managed to get four tickets to see England. My first trip abroad to see them since Eng v Italy in 1980 in Torino - we lost 1-0. We are flying to Amsterdam and then driving to Gelsenkirchen. I’ve pretty much driven across most of the world but not across Germany. Anyone done a similar trip and are there tolls etc across Germany? Any advice welcome.
QQ - I need to drive tonight and am thinking of parking in Westfield. Price aside has anyone used the parking for an evening game as I see it closes at 9pm?
I don’t really give a shite for the club, for GA or the ragged bunch of amateur players parading in our shirt. The whole fecking circus is shameful from top to bottom. I was so fortunate to see our greatest ever team, watch Rodney do his stuff, watch Gerry’s team , Venables team and Warnock’s team. How on earth has our club be allowed to degenerate into a bunch of useless hoofball merchants, parading as professional footballers, being coached by a leader with no leadership or technical football credentials. Frankly, I don’t care if we head into L2, but let’s hope someone, somewhere has the vision and innovation to re-create our fantastic club again. Everything about our club tonight, is so far removed from what I treasure and believe in and I first started watching in 1973.
Like a lot of you,I have followed my team through the best and worst of times since 1973. The last three seasons on the playing and backroom staff have been painful to watch. The brilliant Jim Gregory had a vision in the 70’s to revamp Rangers and he did it. In the 80’s we pushed on and in the early 90’s we made a go of it. Since then - apart from PL promotion, which was a disaster we’ve been in free-fall. I acknowledge the development of the training ground, but where is the big thinking on the stadium? The ownership have to take some leadership on that subject and start to think beyond W12. The demise of the club which was epitomised by that abject performance yesterday was there for all to see. It’s all linked. Where’s the ambition and leadership on how to solve our player recruitment which is frankly abysmal? Often the most difficult decisions are the right ones and I hope the club realise they have reached that point today. Do nothing and we dive into L1 with a wimper. The Board need to think long-term and re-set the whole club, but with ambition, leadership and guts. To think we were once a very respected London club - it makes me so angry!
The Accrington Stanley FC Chairman publicly laying into the EFL on Twitter, regarding the streaming rights proposal, being forced on clubs. I am not aware of the full details, but it seems the EFL is selling the clubs short again, particularly those in the Championship.
The EFL does appear to be an organisation not fit for purpose.
I have a confession - I went to the game last night with a mate (who is a Man Utd fan).
On the game, Brentford played well in the first halve and had some decent chances. In the second halve Utd strolled through them. Brentford looked out on their feet. They can play, but at this level their defence is a mess and would be in the Championship.
The thing that surprised me the most, was the huge amount of Man Utd fans/tourists that were dotted around the ground. I see the attendance was circa 17,000, but there had to be 3/4000 away fans in that ground. It ruined the atmosphere and I have no idea how the Brentford ticketing system works, but if I were a Brentford ST holder I would be furious!
If we do make the promised land, I hope LR remains a fortress. Brentford have got it all wrong and I was surprised there was no trouble last night.
If rumours are true, it is unlikely that he will be at R's next season. He has been a rock-solid player for us and his appearance record is "out of this world". Yes, he has made the odd mistake, but his form is very consistent and we will miss him in the back three next season.
I trust the club has already lined-up a replacement, but his shoes are huge to fill. I cannot think of anyone that comes to mind to play on that left-side - really difficult hole to fill.
Really want these two to cut it, but given their respective performances and lack of goals between them, how are they going to turn it around? On current stats they will end up with 12-16 goals between them for the season, which is not good enough. Dykes is struggling with his game in the Championship - just cannot finish and Bonne gets in good positions and again cannot finish. Not sure how much the club invested in them, but on current performances and goal return, they both look out of their depth in the Championship. Problem is, who will take them off our hands?
You have to give him a huge amount of credit. I along with many others had my finger on the trigger for him to go. He has stuck to his principles, learnt some lessons in game management and put together a useful squad who can mix it up. Granted that Austin has been a talisman for us, but fair play to him, his coaches, Les and the Board for sticking with him. Now, if he could only get Dykes and Bonne firing............
