Santos is the alternative.

That's where we are at for a back up right back.

I suspect we are not playing Santos so we can say during the summer that he hasn't settled in his looking for a new club. Rather than he's absolute dog s***.

Definitely a bit of that. I get 'Tyler Roberts' and 'Ethan Laird' vibes from him in. PL academy history, comes across as arrogant rather than confident.

For the record, West Ham wanted to keep him, he ran his contract down and signed for Newcastle. No doubt for the money.

He makes those sort of mistakes regularly, but is not punished, today against PL opposition he was.

Acccording to West Ham fans he left because Moyes wouldn't give him game time. He didn't leave on a free though, Newcastle paid £3 million for him.

They paid £3 million for him with 6 months left on his contract apparently.

I guess because he was a youth product they had to pay that much. Seems a crazy fee for him though.

Stupidly I'd assumed he was a Geordie. I hadn't realised he was once on the Scum's books and Newcastle paid £3 MILLION for him two years ago.

Tbf he has been a lot better recently (until yesterday) but tends to look like a winger playing full back, rather than an actual defender.

I’ve been happy to give him time, not least he’s the only player who’s managed to get a tune out of Celar.

That said, he makes the same mistakes week after week and never seems to learn, perhaps he just doesn’t listen as I’d imagine he’s picked up on it.

He’s not a full back and I fear he’d be another of those Queens Park Rangers who you can watch season after season and never work out exactly where’s best to play them. That diagram usually suggests that they’re playing in the wrong league.

To me it was not just the initial mistake it was the brain dead timing of the mistake. We were actually on top and passing it around nicely having settled into a pattern of plat after equalising. He tried something you should try in the last or possibly middle third not as last line if defence. As a teammate I would have been livid. As a freezing cold fan I was livid. A mist opportunity for sure.

Today has been a waiting to happen. He's been my bug bear of mine for the past few games...he's got talent, i think, but just not disciplined enough and error prone as a result. It's now become a problem.

Do despair at Ashby’s decision making at times, but is this just a lack of experience or is he just a bit thick?

How many professional competitive games has this lad actually played?

We should find a replacement and send him back.

A premier league loanee needs to make our team better, not worse. No, we won’t get a Kyle Walker every time but we should be getting someone competent enough to improve us. He makes us worse. Even on the recent run he has been quite poor.

As others have said, Marti can be very brutal and once someone lets him down in a big way like today you don’t often see them again.

Helpful. One game after a few decent performances against a premiership standard winger.Games like that happen-the real test is the next five games.I hope he is brilliant for the next 5 and stuffs your option right back down your throat.
Nobody is fantastic overnight what we want is gradual incremental improvement. He has shown that in the championship games. An emotional angry outburst from fans only does harm.

I get it you do not rate him but Ashby knows he was t fault. He knows he has 10-15 games to save his career in football.Would you like that level of pressure. What exactly gives you the right to say that?

I’d like to pick this to pieces but it actually makes absolutely no sense to me so I don’t know where to start!!

Certain players can prove you wrong.
I was hugely wrong about Willock
Many were wrong about Smyth

Then there’s other players who you just know are garbage
He’ll be shoving nothing down my throat. Confident of that.

What gives me the right?
You do appreciate what industry he’s earning a living in I hope

Young compared to Kakay vs Millwall

He’s just turned 23 and has played what 20 championship games ? Kakay played 100. Ridiculous comparison

Similar performance though and who cares how many games he's played .

He isn't our player and makes our team worse so what's the point of giving him experience for another teams long term benefit.

He shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11 after that performance

Ashby. on 11:28 - Jan 12 with 1082 viewsbaz_qpr

I do think people forget that typically you are paying 1-3m in loan fees plus salary for the best premiership youngsters / loans and some guarantees of game time, the idea that we just send him back and pick up someone better to sit on our bench is for the birds. He's just had the worst game of his life in some trying conditions, with the players either side of him also putting in rotten performances. Some bad luck there too with the penalty. If he is going to grow as a player / professional it's the epic failures you learn the most from.

He’s never developing here to end up playing for Newcastle. I think his contract is up at the end of the season. We’ve basically got a season long trial with him.

Yeah, and I seem to remember with Hendricks we essentially got him for free, possibly including wages. Maybe that's something Newcastle do with players they want gone, not the worst idea if you can afford it, showcase them and perhaps generate a fee.

Its because Amit's best buddies with Jamie Reuben (formerly of this parish) Hendricks, Hayden and Ashby all secured at mates rates

If he was half as good as he thought he was we’d have a hell of a player on our hands.

As suggested earlier, a dose of the Toddy Kanes.

If he has 10-15 games to save his career then it should be somewhere else other than QPR he can’t even do the basics right
It’s getting tedious the amount of fans who want to put up with Sh1t players because it’s tiny old Rangers they have decided to join for a season loan , like Ashby is doing us a favour

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I don't think anyone has said they think he's doing us a favour. Quite a few are just pointing out that he's done okay in the last few games as back but up to Dunne. He's our reserve right back who has had a run of games because of injuries to others. He's played his part in recent victories just like all the other players and we didn't lose yesterday just because of him.

Ashby. on 16:27 - Jan 12 with 655 viewsDorse

There's been a lot of Todd Kane-based criticism on here. Lest we forget, Todd Kane was worth £12m. According to him. Just before he was cruelly sidelined for saying rude things about a teammate. And ended up playing in the Gibraltar premier league.

Ashby's not quite that.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

2
Ashby. on 16:35 - Jan 12 with 618 viewsR_from_afar

He was very poor yesterday but taking him off at halftime might have lessened what I think is an overreaction. He has made positive contributions in other games.

I never think it is a good idea for any organisation, a football club or a company, to jettison someone after one bad day, unless they do something unethical. I think it breeds a culture of fear and makes people hide.

Just my two groats worth.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

3
Ashby. on 17:13 - Jan 12 with 489 viewsVancouverHoop

At the risk of stating the obvious football is a team game. That's the context. Mistakes/catastrophes happen but digging out individuals serves no purpose. Yesterday we had a defence, and back-up keeper, who'd never played together as a unit. The visibility was appalling which certainly didn't help. We also have injuries to key players back there so Marti had to make some tough choices. Did he get it wrong? Perhaps, but that'll happen sometimes and, frankly, I'm not sure I'd have risked Dunne, Fox or Nardi yesterday either given the volatility of the Championship.

Yes like simply booting the ball upfield today when we had them rattled and Koli (should have scored) was really giving them fits but he tried to dribble out and we got done badly.
I would to have seen Steve Cook letting him have both barrels today after that fcuk up but he is not around to steady the ship.
Leicester simply ripped us a new one down his side all day like they had us scouted or something

The weird thing is he's shown that on those rare occasions he does go long, he has a decent long range pass in him. His was the long pass that set up Celar for his second at Cardiff and he almost repeated the trick at Watford when Celar hit the post late on. Sit the boy down, show him this footage and say "That's what you're good at, son. Now stop trying to dribble past opposition forwards in your own half."

Concur

But

This wasnt one bad day
Good few are saying he’s had decent games in our recent run.
I’ve not seen them.
He’s played us into trouble almost every game but we’ve got away with them.

I’ll say no more but it’s a scandal the lack of full back cover we have at the club matches only by the paucity of striker options we’ve had for years.
